Salt on a bad mouth ulcer.

I’ve had to gear myself up for this all day. I’m 33 and have given birth twice for fucks sake. The salt has brought tears to my eyes.

Sad

Is that a treatment a pharmacist or doctor recommended?

22Giraffes · 27/05/2019 20:58

Ouch you poor thing! Why have you put salt on it though? Wouldn't boiled water with salt to rinse be better, and less painful?

PurpleDaisies · 27/05/2019 21:00

I don’t understand why you would deliberately put salt on an ulcer. Confused

littlewoollypervert · 27/05/2019 21:00

Put the cut side of a fresh clove of garlic on it. Worse than salt BUT tomorrow it will be numb and healing.

PurpleDaisies · 27/05/2019 21:03

Don’t put garlic on a mouth ulcer (unless you want to ward of vampires).

I do wonder where mumsnet gets some of its medical advice from.

Should have said Flowers Flowers Flowers

Mouth ulcers are horrible.

Soubriquet · 27/05/2019 21:09

Liquid anbesol

You get it behind the counter at the pharmacy

It’s good. Helps numb it

SignOnTheWindow · 27/05/2019 21:13

I've always found a salt solution helpful for ulcers - perhaps you made it too salty?

Anbesol is the best anaesthetic treatment I've tried.

Recavanometer · 27/05/2019 21:14

Ouch, but, YABU. Everyone knows that a hard toe stub twats beyond all measure.

xSharonNeedlesx · 27/05/2019 21:15

Salt is a tried and tested method for ulcers! I’ve always done it and so has my family!

It sort of burns the ulcer and numbs it a little and helps it to heal quicker (obviously not a scientific explanation!) it just hurts like a bitch!

My lip has been sore and swollen all day and it feels slightly less now I’ve salted it. Hopefully by tomorrow it should have started to heal.

I’m with the op on mouth pain trumping stubbed toe. Accidental bite of mouth ulcer definitely worse.

FudgeBrownie2019 · 27/05/2019 21:17

I've always used rock salt on mouth ulcers and can confirm you need the strength of She-Ra to tolerate it. For me it's sort of like cauterising the ulcer; the top goes all white and just heals up reducing pain. obviously I'm not 111, though, so it might be pure nonsense.

Cath2907 · 27/05/2019 21:18

The pain of my slipped disk in my back was the worst ever - worse than giving birth, mouse ulcers, whacking my funny bone or stubbing my toe!

Recavanometer · 27/05/2019 21:20

I got terrible mouth ulcers during my finals and found this stuff worked really well. It’s a sort of paste that fills up the hole and numbs it.

Recavanometer · 27/05/2019 21:22

Adcortyl in orabase. Might be prescription only these days

IntoValhalla · 27/05/2019 21:22

If I have a mouth ulcer, I always have a packet of salt and vinegar crisps Grin does the same job, and it’s tasty a the same time!!

On another note: I see your mouth ulcer, and raise you: stepping on an upturned plug Confused I think I’d rather amputate the afflicted foot than ever do that again! Confused

LynetteScavo · 27/05/2019 21:24

Why the fuck would you put salt on an ulcer? Have you not heard of modern medicine?

Recavanometer · 27/05/2019 21:25

An upturned plug is hardcore. Up there with jumping off the bed onto some Lego hair, which actually broke the skin on my foot.

IntoValhalla · 27/05/2019 21:28

Recavanometer the worst part of my experience with the upturned plug?
Both my toddlers were in the room so I couldn’t even swear at the bastard Hmm

TheDarkPassenger · 27/05/2019 21:39

I have an infected abscess on my back and someone gave me a massive, long, close squeezy hug the other day and I actually thought I was going to vomit down her back. The pain made me dizzy Sad

mineofuselessinformation · 27/05/2019 21:47

I would say that removing vaginal packing that has stuck to a wound trumps it - and it goes on and on as they pull bloody feet of it out.

campista · 27/05/2019 21:56

I'm with Cath2907 on this - slipped disc is agony and keeps happening - aagh!!

goose1964 · 27/05/2019 21:58

Tearing my rotator cuff was the most painful thing ever, I was nearly sick with it.

CherryPavlova · 27/05/2019 21:58

Difflam is more effective and less painful.
