Baby name other ideas help.... what the husband wants....

Hi baby is due tomorrow and struggling with names terribly ...it is a girl....

I’ve posted a couple of times over the last couple of days, and suggestions have been helpful and lovely but husband is a firm no to all my names.....

We have it down to Ivy Florence, Esme-Eve Esme Florence, Evie-Florence.... I also love Amelie Eve (but he is firmly against this)

Any help on these... they seem quite popular names to me, I have an Isabel and Ruby already and when I named them didn’t know any and now they have common names.

Would prefer to have this one a little more individual, the name Rose, and Sophia are out of bounds as these are middle names for my girls.

Any help appreciated.

I prefer Florence Eve.I think they sound too clunky the toe other way

PositiveVibez · 27/05/2019 10:51

Oh please a pp said the love Ruby and Flo.

Ruby Flo sounds like a nickname for a period.

I know 2 people who have called the baby Esme in recent months, so if you're looking to avoid popularity, I wouldn't go for that.

Anyway, why would your husband call your daughter Emmy if her name was Esme? That's just daft.

Ivy is the nicest name on the list.

FineWordsForAPorcupine · 27/05/2019 10:53

All your choices are currently extremely popular, OP. That isn't a problem but if you wanted to chose something a bit more unusual, then you might have to think again. Names that start with vowels and/or end in an ie sound are madly popular for girls, so avoid them if you are keen not to have her be one of three in her class (not that there's anything wrong with that).

I find it quite interesting how names come in and out of fashion - I remember discussing possible future kids names with my friends in our early twenties. Ten years later when they all started having their little olivers, gracies, Oscars and evies, sure enough it turned out a lot of other teenagers must have been having the same conversations. The weird thing is, no one was copying each other - at the time of deciding, no one knew any graces or olivers and these choices seemed unusual and original. But everyone must have been unconsciously influenced by something.

sergeilavrov · 27/05/2019 10:55

What names has your husband suggested? Sounds like he needs to provide some options if he's so happy to reject your personal favourites! We have a DD Neomi, with the middle name Beatrice, but definitely no hyphens!

I wanted names with Jewish connections, while my husband wanted things that would work in Lebanon, and our other girl options are: Ottilie (next name for us!) and Evelyn. We found it much easier with male names thankfully.

FineWordsForAPorcupine · 27/05/2019 10:55

... I mean, Amelie is a pretty obvious influence, although the film was a while ago. I suppose it has just stayed in the back of everyone's minds as a pretty name.

JaneGlorianaVillanueva · 27/05/2019 10:55

I'd probably go Esme Florence or Ivy Florence. I think my favourite name on your list is Florence though!

Not keen on Evie

silvercuckoo · 27/05/2019 11:03

Flora? Alice? Elena / Helena? All in the same vein, but a little less trendy.

Kpo58 · 27/05/2019 11:15

I like Florence. You could use Florrie as a nickname.

LoisEinhorn · 27/05/2019 11:44

I love Elsie Florence

userabcname · 27/05/2019 11:44

All of these are really really popular in my area. If you love these names then great, go for one of them but they are not unusual or uncommon. Amelie, Eve and Esme in particular are everywhere (I appreciate it does vary in different places though) so from that list I'd go with Florence or Ivy. Or about something like Flora or Edith or Anya? Similar but less popular?

janetforpresident · 27/05/2019 11:48

To be honest willow is very common round here. I know three Willows and only one Grace.

All of the names you have said are nice but fairly common. I don't personally think it matters. I know people who've tried to be original and ended up with a child in the same class as someone with that name.

Also people are being judgy about hyphenated names but lots of people have them. I must teacher one or two in every class I teach. it's your choice and screams nothing to me but that the parent liked that combination of names!

To be honest they all make me think of the kind of people who have ‘Anyone can own a house. It’s love that makes a home’ stencilled in italics on their living room wall

Fucking hell how superior can you get? Do you like looking down your nose at people because it actually makes you look very small.

janetforpresident · 27/05/2019 11:51

Also my favourites are Florence or eve. Would you consider Evelyn?

TeddybearBaby · 27/05/2019 11:59

I think I like cutesy / old fashioned names but you seem similar 😂. Hope that doesn’t offend you. I love Dottie (saw you mentioned that one). I also love dolly and Betty, quite like Maggie too. I like Amelie and esme Florence out of the ones you mentioned. Good luck, how exciting!! X

yellowellies · 27/05/2019 12:00

As someone else suggested-Emmeline would fit, can be Emmie or Emily for short, and has a similar feel to Amelie. Doesn’t stand out as an unusual name because of the vowel start and -ine ending are very common in girls names, but is definitely less used than Evie/ivy/esme

TeddybearBaby · 27/05/2019 12:00

Ps my daughters middle name is Ava which I still love and considered for a girl. Connie was on my list at the time too 😊

janetforpresident · 27/05/2019 12:07

Yes emmeline is beautiful actually.

SummerWhisper · 27/05/2019 12:41

You can use Rose as a middle name again and it tends to 'prettify' a name:
Maisie Rose
Flora Grace or Rose
Dora or Dolores for Dottie / Dolly so Dora Grace or Dolores Rose (Dottie Rose / Dottie Grace / Dolly Rose / Dolly Grace)
More unusual:
Lottie rather than the formal Charlotte
Willow can be Billie (boyish mames can be cool on females)
Harriet or Henrietta (Hattie / Hettie)
Sukie
Camilla Rose for Millie Rose
Kitty Rose (Kit is a cool name for teenage girls and adult women)

Congratulations and best of luck Flowers

LadyRannaldini · 27/05/2019 12:45

Alicia is lovely, not sure how populat at the moment. Florence might abbreviate to Florrie, not a good idea!

Laura221 · 27/05/2019 12:51

What about felicity? I'm not keen on double barrel names. Any of those you have are lovely though x

EarlyModernParent · 27/05/2019 12:58

Esme Florence is a nice combination.

You could have Sophie: I don't think similarity with the middle name of your other daughter much matters.

Also: Lucy,
Marnie,
Emily,
Katherine known as Katie,
Bettina known as Betty
Harriet known as Hattie.

Tippexy · 27/05/2019 13:07

A hyphen in a first name instantly puts you in a certain social category!

Popfan · 27/05/2019 13:08

A friend of mine called her daughter Eva. Similar to Evie etc but fairly uncommon.

lyralalala · 27/05/2019 13:19

I wouldn't use Ivy if your other daughter tends to be known as Izzy, that's too similar for my liking.

I wouldn't worry too much about popularity. Different areas have different names. I avoided Grace and Olivia as they were both supposed to be super common when DD4 was born, yet I've never met one at toddler groups or nursery. Whereas there are a few duplicate names that people thought were more unusual.

1Willow23 · 27/05/2019 13:19

My sister will be having a daughter called Ava (she’s pregnant too) and she has decided on her name so although Ava is beautiful is taken

OP posts:
1Willow23 · 27/05/2019 13:21

This means Eva is too close to Ava unfortunately.... I also really like Elodie but can’t seem to find a middle name to go with it. There is only one Esme I know of at the moment, and one Evie in my daughters school but there could be a lot more not yet started at the school.
