Another theft one

If you are travelling on a plane which has unlimited ‘help yourself’ snacks and little bottles of booze (think long haul business class), and you were to pop a little chocolate bar or similar in your bag for later maybe accidentally, is that stealing? If not, where do you draw the line?

No, it’s not stealing

Notthetoothfairy · 26/05/2019 21:44

What about a handful of mini bottles? Slippery slope...

Meh it's one of those grey areas. Technically no you shouldn't. I'm sure the contract says you can only take what you consume during the course of the flight. In reality everyone (including the airline who introduced the deal) knows a few people will put a few in their pocket for later. As long as you don't majorly take the piss no one is going to break a sweat over it.

Banhaha · 26/05/2019 21:49

Yeah, it's help yourself to consume on the flight surely? Same as help yourself to unlimited buffet food, you don't shove it in your handbag!

shiningstar2 · 26/05/2019 21:54

To my mind the complimentary stuff is for the duration of the flight only. I can see that it must be frustrating if others are having loads and you don't like drinking in the air but the choice is there. If you don't take it up while on the plane it's not the airline's fault. If everybody on the plane helped themselves to even 2 mini bottles of alcohol each the extra cost to the airline would go up ...which inevitably would be passed on to passengers.

Banhaha ...your comment about buffets reminds me of places where I have actually seen this happen. People on a B and B tariff helping them selves to a ham roll and a banana so that lunch is sorted. I always think it will be a bit of a soggy sandwich by lunchtime. Same principle as the air line. A personal no from me but I can see how it might help a broke young family get a holiday break and you realize that the food is probably going to be binned seems more understandable than handbagging a few mini bottles of booze Smile

I stayed at a rather lovely hotel this weekend. I took a banana away with me from breakfast every morning. Hmmm

Fatasfooook · 26/05/2019 22:17

I know a couple that always stock up and fill a bag at the breakfast buffet so lunch is sorted. It’s maybe a bit uncouth but I wouldn’t think it’s crime of the century

Hohofortherobbers · 26/05/2019 23:45

I always take my hotel toiletries home

I had a great aunt who would regularly tip the entire left over buffet into her handbag "For her animals". Yes she had a large number of animals but I've never seen s capuchin monkey eat quiche or a donkey nibble cocktail sausages. She was so blatant about it. The rest of us would cringe.
