Employer ignoring internal application for new role

A couple of months ago, I was made aware of a new role which I decided to apply for.

After 3 weeks I still hadn't heard anything back. I was then asked to perform a technical evaluation of an external applicant. I asked what the status of my application was - I was told simply that I wasn't suitable and that they would be proceeding with external applicants.

I was pretty surprised and annoyed with the whole situation - but I also feel they obviously need my input to evaluate the external applicants.

Am I being unreasonable to think that the behaviour of my current employer is unreasonable? I don't have any issue with not getting the role - it's more the fact that I wasn't even offered an interview or any explanation as to why they thought I was unsuitable.

I think you should be given more detailed feedback - can you ask for this?

Yeah, I would be annoyed about that too. What did they say when you asked them for feedback?

Was there a job spec? Did you satisfy the criteria? If so and it's a natural progression for your role I'd ask them what they thought you were missing so that you can work on it for next time something similar comes up. It's a bit confusing why they are asking you to help evaluate people for a role you are apparently completely unsuitable for though!
