To call all other imminent interviewees

I have a job interview on June 3rd for a job I want SO much, I am so anxious. I'm off now for a week with the kids so lots of time to prepare (and dwell and stress!) I wondered if we could start a 2WW style thread for those about to go for interviews?!

I have one next week. It's for an internal position in the same role I'm doing now, but I desperately want it and I know there is at least one other interviewee.

I'm terrible at talking myself up and not sure what to expect as the manager interviewing me has already been working with me for months, so it'll feel a bit strange doing an interview when he already knows what I am like in the role.

Best of luck to you, I bloody hate interviews!

newjobnerves · 26/05/2019 17:26

Oh it's so tricky with internal interviews when you know the panel, especially as you can't exaggerate at all haha. Good luck to you!

I've got an interview imminently, I think part of it is a surprise presentation (joy) and there is a part where I'm going to be interviewed by the students!
It's also the second day of a new school for my son - so what could possibly go wrong!

What research are you doing ? I'm thinking I might make some cue cards in case of emergency presentation.

mistermagpie · 26/05/2019 17:44

I've been waiting THREE WEEKS to hear how my interview went, it's nerve wracking. It's for the same organisation I work for now (local authority) so I have been able to find out why there has been such a delay, but still, it's nerve wracking.

I'll find out a 'yes' by phone but a 'no' by email - I've been refreshing my email constantly! Good luck everyone else.

mistermagpie · 26/05/2019 17:45

Oh, meant to say - I think it went reasonably well and the interviewer said something very positive at the end, but I'm still waiting. There are four posts and about 25 people interviewed.

hopelessbusiness · 26/05/2019 18:20

Watching with interest - I have an interview on Wednesday which is good timing as I got made redundant on Thursday - effective immediately!!
I'm ok financially for a little while but I've never been in this position before...I've always had a job to go back to if the interview doesn't go so well. Definitely feeling the pressure now!

newjobnerves · 27/05/2019 19:25

@niceupthedanceagain sorry for the delay. As it's a public body much of their info and policies are online, I'm reading them all and their strategy. I'm having to spruce up on some of the legislation involved and will start planning contingency questions later in the week. No test or presentation this time thankfully!

newjobnerves · 27/05/2019 19:26

@mistermagpie I hope you hear tomorrow!

newjobnerves · 27/05/2019 19:27

@hopelessbusiness good luck for Weds! Sounds like it would be perfect timing!

WonderTweek · 27/05/2019 20:13

There couldn't be a better timing for this! I have an interview on Wednesday and I'm so so desperate for this job. I have been in my current job for seven years so haven't had any interviews for aaaaages, and also suddenly feel like all my confidence and skills have disappeared. Sad I've reached my absolute limit of BS in my current job so will be handing in my notice on the 3rd regardless of if I get this job or not, but it is giving me quite a bit of pressure as getting this job would literally solve all of my problems.

Good luck everyone! Let's all get new jobs! Grin I too would welcome some tips if there are any going. Mine is apparently a competency based affair and I'm really struggling to remember what I've done in my job for the last seven years. Hmm I've been reading James Reed's Why You book about interview questions but I think I'm starting to overdo it as everything's getting really muddled in my head.

PeterRabbitsBlueCoat · 27/05/2019 20:15

I have one next Monday.

Am currently on the holiday from hell in an ant-infested Italian mobile home with a 3yo and an 18mo. It's pissing down.

I had a phone interview before we left and have a face-to-face when we get back.

Oh yeah, and it is in another language!

Helllllllllllppppppp

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 27/05/2019 20:46

I had an interview in Feb and won’t get the result until at least the end of June.

FFSeverynameisused · 27/05/2019 20:47

Good luck everyone. I'm applying for other jobs too but no interviews yet.

Remember to use the STAR format when ansewring competency interviews.

Namechangenecessity · 27/05/2019 20:49

I’m staring redundancy in the face after 15 years in the same job.Im 48 and though I’ve had a couple of interviews which I didn’t get the job, but I wasn’t that bothered anyway- the thought of needing to be successful is scary!

Good luck everyone.

newjobnerves · 28/05/2019 08:38

@WonderTweek good luck, I feel similar. The best approach with competency based is to google example questions and to pre pick examples using the STAR format, it's quite difficult to do a competency based interview well "off the cuff", my memory isn't good enough!

OP posts:
newjobnerves · 28/05/2019 08:39

@Namechangenecessity the pressure doesn't help! Did you get feedback from the other ones?

newcat12345 · 28/05/2019 08:53

I'm waiting to hear back today for an interview I had last Thursday,

Been a SAHM mum for last 8 years so this whole
Process has been terrifying. I had an interview last month but didn't get the job so praying this time I'm successful. I get such awful interview anxiety an sure if affects my chances.

Good luck al Flowers

WhoWasIt · 28/05/2019 08:54

Nothing to add except that i hope you all get the news that you want. Smile

newjobnerves · 28/05/2019 08:56

@newcat12345 good luck, it must be very daunting after a period out of work, my fingers are firmly crossed!

OP posts:
newcat12345 · 28/05/2019 08:59

Thanks Newjob Smile

FairfaxAikman · 28/05/2019 09:03

I have an interview on Friday.
Related field to the one I graduated in - less exciting but more stable and better pay.
It's also less of a commute but it FT whereas I've been working PT since returning from maternity leave.

newjobnerves · 28/05/2019 09:06

@FairfaxAikman how old is your child now? It was daunting going full time after part time but it wasn't as difficult as I thought it was going to be.

OP posts:
CharlotteUnaNatalieThompson · 28/05/2019 09:12

I have an interview on 20th June. It's too take on an additional rule in the job in doing now, but yy to interval panel bring scary, and also populated by people I think very highly of. I'm the only applicant, and was pretty much asked to apply (by 2 of the 4 pepper on the panel), but that doesn't mean I'll get it as the place I work is very strict on everything being above board. So although it should in theory be a given, funnily enough that makes me more nervous as I don't want to make a fool of myself!

I also have a close friends funeral to go to before then, so I'm pretty preoccupied....

Good luck everyone!

CharlotteUnaNatalieThompson · 28/05/2019 09:13

Cheers crossed my application was more legible than that mess - thanks autocorrect...

Yabbers · 28/05/2019 09:25

I don’t have one, but will do soon I think. My job may or may not be redundant.

I hate having to explain my circumstances and ask for flexibility right off the bat. But if I don’t, and they don’t agree to it, I can’t (and wouldn’t want to) work there.
