Inspired by a thread in classics:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_classics/3058228-household-objects-that-are-pricks?pg=1&messages=25

What about those appliances that you love? That have served you faithfully for many years without complaint? Or that are new and have changed your life?

Mine is a Clairol 1200 hairdryer from 1983 - older than multiple boyfriends, and far more faithful. Ok, so it doesn't work if you turn it off once it has heated up - so don't turn it off!

With an honourable mention to my Babyliss crimpers, which finally ended their days a month ago at age 30+, only because a cat knocked them off the counter and broke an iron.

My 'new' one is my new Babyliss crimpers - they are hot within a minute! And I love my Dyson pethair - so effective.

But my all-time fave? The toilet. Don;t know how I'd cope without that invention.

My Cookworks kettle that I got from Argos about 25 years ago when I was in my first home. I had it for ages but it got retired for a bit when I had more money and could afford a nicer one.

The nicer ones fused or stopped working, so my old faithful is back in service.

Mustbetimeforachange · 26/05/2019 19:49

I forgot about the Dualit toaster. At least 16 years with never a whimper, perfect toast every dsy. I don't even think if it as old and doing well, it's just our toaster.

ChristmasFluff · 26/05/2019 19:50

@Ronsters - I love the recognition for a 'second best' that then proves its worth.

I'm sure there are people equivalents who never get their due appreciation. This ones for them

I too have an eighties Clairol 1200 hairdryer still going strong.

PS. OP am most amused by the second hand vibrator given as a Christmas 🎁

Reasonstobeearful · 26/05/2019 19:59

OP I also have a Clairol hairdryer from the mid 80s that is still going strong. In fact it works perfectly!

StopItandGoToBed · 26/05/2019 19:59

I came on to boast about my Clairol hairdryer from 1991 but I see now that it's a positive youngster!

Reasonstobeearful · 26/05/2019 20:00

Snap jedeye! Clairol obviously did themselves out of repeat custom back then.

Jedeye · 26/05/2019 20:03

Reasonstobe Grin I will definitely buy another when it finally dies though!

Jedeye · 26/05/2019 20:05

Wow this has to be a good ad for Clairol 👍

Dollywilde · 26/05/2019 20:06

@engagedagain sorry, said electric to distinguish battery operated from eg a table. But seems the vibrator chat has moved on slightly since... Second hand from a sibling is indeed a bit of an eyebrow raiser!!

ScruffGin · 26/05/2019 20:08

My clock radio,I got it when I was below 10 (it's still for glow in the dark stars on it, so about then!), Still going strong at 36 Grin

I also love my Vitamix, I know it's stupidly expensive, and I only use it to make protein shakes and puree baby food, but the endless possibilities... Grin Grin

Jsmith99 · 26/05/2019 20:10

Our cheapo, basic, British made Hotpoint washing machine. It’s 18 years old and still going strong. It needs new bushes every few years, but apart from that it’s all original. It doesn’t owe us a penny.

StopItandGoToBed · 26/05/2019 20:13

I don't think Clairol makes hairdryers anymore... probably did themselves out of business by being too reliable

KarenTheCashRegister · 26/05/2019 20:14

My GHDs are 15yrs old. They were a stretch at the time but I’ve used them pretty much every day so well worth it.

ScruffGin · 26/05/2019 20:14

Oh, if we're talking about vibrators, then Hitachi magic wand... Although mine wasn't second hand, that's pretty horrible! Grin
Should've RTFT before answering...

MothershipG · 26/05/2019 20:15

My Dualit toaster was my indulgence by when I bought my first flat - 23 years ago and still going strong.

My Kenwood Chef is only about 10 years old but I love it with a passion.

mateysmum · 26/05/2019 20:33

Another one fir Kenwood Chef. Mine is over 30 years old and still going strong. My mother in law's is 50 years old!

thetemptationofchocolate · 26/05/2019 20:39

I'm still using a microwave that must be 35 years old. It still works fine except for the light inside.

AskMeHow · 26/05/2019 21:09

It's nothing compared to some on this thread but my Babyliss (definitely a theme emerging) hair straighteners have been going for 15 years and used 2 or 3 times a week. And they were a sale bargain to begin with!

Almostfifty · 26/05/2019 21:09

I've a Kenwood food processor that's 28 years old, stil works perfectly.

My Zanussi washer that lasted 20 years, doing at least 3 washes a day when the DC were small, only died when they'd all grown up. I've had three new ones since...

I've a Vitamix, it'll out live me I think, fabulous machine.

My GHDs must be at least 15 years old too, still work perfectly.

Anniegetyourgun · 26/05/2019 21:18

A second hand vibrator... for a Christmas present?!?! OMG, it gets worse. Tell us more. Or rather, please don't.

formerbabe · 26/05/2019 21:30

I thought grim too until I realised most of us don't marry men who are virgins...think about it

FadedRed · 26/05/2019 21:35

Kenwood electric mixer, wedding present, 44 years old.
Ladyshave 45 years old. Both well used and still going strong.

LovelyJubblee · 26/05/2019 21:55

My hotpoiny tumble drier serving us since 2006

LovelyJubblee · 26/05/2019 21:56

My electric hand whisk that my nan bought me in 1993. Still going strong.
