Inspired by a thread in classics:

What about those appliances that you love? That have served you faithfully for many years without complaint? Or that are new and have changed your life?

Mine is a Clairol 1200 hairdryer from 1983 - older than multiple boyfriends, and far more faithful. Ok, so it doesn't work if you turn it off once it has heated up - so don't turn it off!

With an honourable mention to my Babyliss crimpers, which finally ended their days a month ago at age 30+, only because a cat knocked them off the counter and broke an iron.

My 'new' one is my new Babyliss crimpers - they are hot within a minute! And I love my Dyson pethair - so effective.

But my all-time fave? The toilet. Don;t know how I'd cope without that invention.

@RoseMartha YES! Honestly, touch wood and all that, but with washers it seems like the longer they last, the longer they carry on lasting. I've only had 2 washers in the last 24 years, and the current one is going strong (touch wood!)

Bosch washing machine from c.mid-90s. I had it second hand 12 years ago and it's still going strong despite being used 2-3 times/day. I hear the new Bosch machines aren't great, though.

OMG @hellodarkness - acclimatising a freezer!!!!!!

How the hell does a freezer know where it is for starters!

I have an orange travel hairdryer I bought in 1975. Still going strong.

DrCoconut · 26/05/2019 17:27

My 20 year old hand blender, it's made of tough stuff.

hellodarkness · 26/05/2019 17:27

Haha christmas I've no idea, but they wouldn't budge and I had to scrap it and accept the loss. So my mission ever after has been to spread the word about how utterly shit Beko products and customer service is.

ChristmasFluff · 26/05/2019 17:28

@DollyWilde @EngagedAgain I'm afraid my ancient vibrator was second hand and was given to me by my sister (after thorough de-germing) when she got new one. It is one of the original Rabbits. It's ears don't work. It doesn't matter, I'm long past the need!

Maybe I should take it onto David Dickinson's Real Deal?

Kenwood food mixer, given to me as a wedding present in 1995. It has outlasted that marriage, and the next one!!! Super little machine, all sorts of bits fly off it in all directions, it'd probably be condemned by fire officers, hygiene inspectors and trading standards, but it's made countless cakes, soups, pates and sauces, and I'll be buggered if I'm buying a new one! Don't worry, it's only domestic use. Oooh, oooh, and my hairdryer, a Vidal Sasoon, blooming marvellous. 19 years old and still the best ever.

scaryteacher · 26/05/2019 17:31

The upright freezer must be over 15 years old and my first microwave died in 2011, just about our 25th wedding anniversary. It had been a wedding present in 1986. The Kenwood Chef was also a wedding present and is still going strong. I've replaced the beaters as they didn't like the hard water in Belgium and went all dark and flaky, but I wash the new ones by hand, so they are still OK.

Megsheeran · 26/05/2019 17:35

My hob/oven it's 1980's, where the hob is brown which fades to beige in the centre? I am not sure exact date it was made but I rescued it as it was going in the skip 25 years ago and built a brick base for it and cut a hole in the work top (also from the skip) for the hob. Still going strong. I am super frugal 😉

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 26/05/2019 17:37

I 'inherited' a Kenwood Chef when I got married from my Mum who had bought a Major. It was a wedding present for her in 1983. It died in 2015 in a puff of smoke. 32 years wasn't bad...

MissLadyM · 26/05/2019 17:43

Someone has a hand me down vibrator..from their sister!! Vom 🤮

Mustbetimeforachange · 26/05/2019 17:44

Hand blender bought in 1996 & used a lot. My first microwave lasted about 25 years & was only replaced because we had a new kitchen.

Ivegotthree · 26/05/2019 17:50

My Delonghi Magnifica bean to cup coffee machine. We were given it in 2011 and have had several cups of coffee from it every day since, barring holidays.

It's amazing.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 26/05/2019 17:50

My dishwasher.
63 years old.

Married to the dishwasher for 35 years!

EngagedAgain · 26/05/2019 17:51

Christmas, even after de germing, I still can't get my head round it!

Ivegotthree · 26/05/2019 17:53

Sister's vibrator! Just NO

formerbabe · 26/05/2019 17:56

I have a beast of a Dyson...must be over ten years old. Still going...

Our washing machine was already in our house when we bought it 5 years ago.. god knows how long previous owners had had it...used 3 times a day every day...never failed me.

ChristmasFluff · 26/05/2019 17:56

Hahahaha! I sort of knew the gifted vibrator might raise eyebrows! But it was well cleaned, and we are that sort of family (don't take toothpaste when we go to stay etc) Worst thing was she wrapped it as a Christmas present and I half opened it before managing to hide it from the parents :-D

Ooooh - I have a moulinex food processor - practically untouched - that dates from my wedding (1993). I'm sure it would be a huge asset to someone. But not to me. :-(

Dyson are fab! I contacted them WAAAAY after the guarantee ran out, and they only invoiced me for the price of the manhours on the repair. No charge for the replacement parts, no charge for the call out. Cost me about £30 for the whole thing - and it was dead.

I still have that Dyson as a spare. Still works.

My orange Kenwood chef, I bought it when we were living abroad so probably early eighties.
The ironing board was a wedding present, 50 years ago, gone through a lot of covers, memo to self, need another one.
We bought a Cafetiere abroad when we'd never seen one before, probably mid 1970s.

MilleeMollyMandie · 26/05/2019 18:18

I have my mums microwave from her first home in about ‘87 ish! It went to my great grandma’s when my mum moved in with my dad and was then put in storage after my great grandma died in 2001.

It works absolutely fine. It’s also the same brand and model that my grandparents had until about 6 years ago (Nan recently passed away) so the sound of it’s beeps is so nostalgic of lovely childhood memories of baking and cooking with my Nan and Sunday dinners etc. I had planned to get an all singing all dancing one with grill and convection functions but now I can’t bare to part with it!

QueenArseClangers · 26/05/2019 18:47

Our Dualit toaster. It’s taken quite a bashing over the 15 years or so we’ve had it and still remains sturdy as fuck. It helps that they sell parts for repair too.

Streamside · 26/05/2019 19:28

My Grundig washing machine is amazing, better that the AEG one I had.
