Posting for traffic.
I never seem to know what to do when I'm under the weather and usually have to wait for it to pass on it's own.

Currently have a blocked nose, some sinus pain and sensitive to harsh light/foggy head. Also a cough and tickly throat. Just feeling pants in general and want to switch off and DC1 seems to be coming down with the same now too.

Apart from tea with honey 🍯 and lemon 🍋 I have no idea what to do to make myself at least a bit better for Tuesday when life picks up at full force again.

What is your go to/standard procedure when ill or coming down with something to feel better?

As soon as I feel ill I take 3 grams of vitamin C a day. One of those effervescent tablets is 1 gram. Do it every day until you start feeling better. First defence can stop a cold in its tracks. Paracetamol or something like Lemsip helps. Very important to rest as much as possible so your body can fight the illness.

Thanks. Unfortunately resting isn't much of an option with 2 LOs.

My eyes are tearing up now too ugh. To top it off I have just put the kettle on to have a Lemsip and realised there was no water in and I think it's now broken 😥

Bed, cat at feet, hot tea, bag of Lindor, V pillow, paracetamol and a Georgette Heyer if my brain is too mushed to read anything else.

A vapour bath as my dad calls it....
a washing up bowl of steaming water, couple drops of vicks vapour rub or equivalent, towel over your head and a few minutes under, come out, deep breathes, blow nose and back under.
You might have to work up to doing a few mins at a go and it might make you cough a bit if you breathe too deeply too quickly but honestly this is my go to rescue for head colds / blocked nose etc. If I’ve got a bad cold I’ll do this a couple of times a day, I had horrific laryngitis and flu a few years ago, could barely move from bed and this was the only thing which gave any relief at all. I swear by it.
Also, demidifier - use eucalyptus oil whilst sleeping.

I agree with Grumpos. Regular steam treatment, also a hot shower a couple of times a day and also try and get a big sleep in the middle of the day. A couple of hours of sleep will let your body heal.

Sleep sleep sleep and more sleep. I've recently had a shitty cold thing, and spent a few days shivering under a blanket. I take generic cold and flu medicine (the Tesco stuff has the same ingredients as Lemsip) a good multivitamin, and lemsip do an immune system melt tablet, so I figured I'd take those too, just for good measure.
Main thing that helped was DH taking the DC out of the house yesterday, so I could laze, eat, and sleep. I feel so much better today, and I think it's due to resting so much. Hope you feel better soon CakeBrewWine

Sleep-sorry!
Lots of crappy movies to cheer me up

Willowkoko · 26/05/2019 22:18

No scientific proof, but I find I recover quicker if I make myself too warm, lots of layers and warm drinks.

In an ideal world; sleep, water & hot baths.

Back in the real world, I have a toddler.

Sinus bath/Nettie pot
