Hi all,

Shamelessly posting for traffic as I’m as my wits end.

2 days ago, started with a dodgy tummy and a couple awful number twos. Didn’t think that much of it, I’ve gone back to work full time, I have a DD(6) and DS (9 months)

Felt a little off again yesterday but we were meant to go out and have a big meal with DH family to celebrate quite a few birthdays - one of them being DH.

Had quite a lot to eat (and a few glasses of rose) came home, put kids to bed and then went to bed myself.

I woke up with the most horrendous pain, and gurgling, and all I can describe it was that the heavens had opened. This happened, every half an hour until about 11am then it started up top, it was like something out of the exorcist. Still going on, although not so much sickness just the other end 🙈 I’ve been sucking on ice, sipping water, flat Dr Pepper, that rehydration sachet stuff but not tried food.

I thought that maybe where it kind of started off a couple days ago, I wouldn’t still be this bad? Surely there isn’t that much fluid in the human body?! It’s awful. Truly awful. My lower back and legs are aching like mad too - not sure why.

I know I just have to let it pass by, does anyone have any recommendations for fluid, food, best way to lie down etc? Just want to get comfy.

Please go easy on me.

TIA x

Lottie, there's a potent viral gastroenteritis doing rounds now, exactly like you describe - in two flushes, first one relatively benign, next one just dreadful. A friend's child ended up in the hospital on a drip because of the dehydration. Try Lucozade maybe? It has electrolytes and glucose to keep you going.

Pgqio · 26/05/2019 16:14

Just don't feed it, the body is trying to get everything toxic out of you, I'm afraid you just have to ride it out.

CannoninD · 26/05/2019 16:16

Personally I stick a load of pillows behind me and doze almost sat up when feeling unwell. It helps.

Personally I find it really strange how common it is for people to carry on eating/drinking normally when their stomach is ‘off’.
Last time DP got sick he ate a family size pack of crisps after complaining of stomach pain and I was just like 😒 when he vomited.
I know it can’t be fully avoided as in if you’re sick you’re sick but if you don’t put extreme stress on a stomach that’s already struggling you’re much less likely to get a violent reaction x

LoafofSellotape · 26/05/2019 16:17

It'll go eventually, just keep doing what you're doing. Rehydration sachets are important.

LottieLou90 · 26/05/2019 16:18

Thank you both.
@silvercuckoo oh god, haven’t heard about that. Hope your friends child is better.

Haven’t thought about lucozade- will get DH to nip to the shops shortly.

@CanoninD completely get where you’re coming from but when it only happened the once both days, I thought I may have eaten something a bit dodgy or didn’t agree with me.

Had I had that awful pain when you know you’re about to be sick, I definitely would’ve stayed home x

Isn’t lucozade a myth and they say plain water and dehydration sachets if it warrants it?

DaveMinion · 26/05/2019 17:19

I had this gastroenteritis the week before last. Couldn’t keep water down at one point. Gp said if I didn’t pee for 12 hours to go to a&e. I was close. Never felt so ill in my life. But it will pass. I was scared to eat but so weak that I needed to.

Auramigraine · 26/05/2019 17:25

Poor you OP I had something similar to this not long ago, the aching legs were awful and being so exhausted but body forcing me to the toilet every few minutes was bloody awful. I didn’t think I had a drip of fluid left in me Sad luckily that lasted about 8hours the constant toilet running, then the aching legs and the next day it felt like I had a hangover from hell with a dodgy tummy, I starved myself for two days and then started on soup when I was ready, I was really nervous tho!! Will soon be gone OP x

silvercuckoo · 26/05/2019 17:30

@SnowyAlpsandPeaks
It certainly does not have any magic properties often ascribed to it by the folk wisdom, but it is as good as any other rehydrating + glucose solutions. I personally prefer the taste too.

VerenaR · 26/05/2019 17:38

I had this last week, started last Friday, and my nausea/sick lasted until Tuesday. I know how you feel, and I really hope you feel better soon. Honey on toast really helped me feel better, seemed to be the only thing that would stay down. Honestly, just keep on drinking water, even though it makes you feel nauseous as you have to stay hydrated. For me, the diarrheoa stopped before the sick, but it seems the opposite for you.

For my friend, she said slightly flat sparkling water really helped get rid of her nausea, so maybe try that ?

I am quite nervous now though...I didn't realise it came in two bouts. Other people who have the bug, has it come back again? I don't want to feel ill again :(

Thank you all for your lovely messages. Just had what felt like round 67 in the bathroom. I’m so so tired and like a previous poster said about the aches. My good god, feel like I’ve majorly over done it in the gym.

I just want to get some sleep but it’s either my stomach hurting like crazy or my back / legs.

I feel for all of you that have had it. Flowers

I had it a fortnight ago, it’s horrible.

Keep your fluids up, try some lucozade sport. You should be feeling more human tomorrow.
