I see pp's point who say that there was a clear "leave" party to vote for whilst the remain votes will be spit.

Am losing hope for a last minute turnaround to remain but in all honesty i think we are screwed every which way now. The money that has been squandered on this is heartbreaking when our nhs is on it's knees.

The 70% are presumed to acquiesce to the will of the 30%. Did all the 70% vote? If they did, did they vote remain? One can't assume that they would have voted remain...perhaps they either don't care, or can't be arsed.

JustSomebodie · 26/05/2019 18:09

From a political philosophy perspective, those who do not vote are presumed to be happy to go along with the will of those who do vote.

EerieSilence · 26/05/2019 18:15

For myself, all I can say so far is that the cluster fuck that’s Brexit helped the liberals and the Green parties gain more than expected. Everybody expected the far right parties to gain a lot but while there were gains, they weren’t as considerable as predicted . Thanks Britain, you’re helping people elsewhere focus while marching to the abyss like a bunch of lemmings.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 26/05/2019 18:18

All that matters is the percent that voted leave and the percentage that voted to stay. Anyone who could not be arsed voting didn't care either way.
So lets hope MPs are listening to the people this time. How many times will we have to tell them. Get on with it.

Fatasfooook · 26/05/2019 18:19

Brexit party are forecast to clean up because people are fuckin clueless

Cwenthryth · 26/05/2019 18:19

Sadly that is how a democracy works - whoever gets the most votes wins! However noone really ‘wins’ the European elections, as someone said, what do they win. Hardly anyone is voting on the basis of who do they want to represent them in Europe - people are mostly voting on Brexit as a message to the government whether they want to leave or remain/second referendum.

PortiaCastis · 26/05/2019 18:25

What are the Brexit party going to clean up? Some seats at the European Parliament is not cleaning up really as there are only 73 allocated to the UK out of 750 or so.

Skipthisbit · 26/05/2019 18:31

Hang on .... if as every remain voter would have us believe .... the majority of country’s leave voters have has changed their mind or died (their words not mind) and every right thinking person is firmly remain, why on earth should the turn out be low? Surely if they are right the vast majority, who are now remain voters, should have been out in force voting that way? Not the minority leave vote?? Split cite or not, if what we are lead to believe by remain voters is true, they should have turned out in numbers to vote for remain parties .... if not, why not?

Gth1234 · 26/05/2019 18:34

After the polls close tonight which I think is 10pm British time. The Brexit party is forecast to win partly because Farage always does best when turnout is low - and a lot of people didn't vote*

they forecast the Brexit Party to win because of repeated polls showing that most of the UK want to leave the EU, and they have confidence in Nigel Farage to help achieve that.

Pencilcase123 · 26/05/2019 19:16

The Brexit party will win the most votes because the majority wants to leave. Why do remainers have such difficulty with this concept. Remainers are already trying to explain away the results with any explanation apart from the obvious one, which is that the majority want Brexit.

PortiaCastis · 26/05/2019 19:18

Most votes to sit in a Parliament they don't believe in

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 26/05/2019 19:20

if as every remain voter would have us believe

I wouldn't have you believe that ...or dh

Do you actually know every person who voted reman? Your facebook friends total must be awesome!

(I know thats petty but fuck me am i tired of the ‘everyone who voted remain thinks...’ and ‘everyone who voted leave thinks...’ bullshit)

And voting for Farage and his Brexit party to achieve this is absolutely insane, the havoc this man will wreak to spread his brand of hatred is terrifying

Imagine being so desperate to believe in magical unicorns that you'd resort to having confidence in Nigel Fuckwit Farage. I feel quite sorry for anyone with such low standards.

No they don't. Polls show that people now want to remain.

Ok, playing devil’s avocado here for a minute, because I feel this kind of rhetoric is unhelpful at best - demonising Farage doesn’t make him go away and just strengthens him for people who disagree with you.
2 questions - what havoc do you think he will wreak? What exactly is it you think he will do as an anti-Euro MEP - which is exactly what he’s been for the past however long? It was the Tories that started Brexit, not Farage or UKIP.
And secondly - who would you suggest leave/pro Brexit people vote for? Labour - clear as mud what they want. Tory - failed. UKIP - racist as all hell. So who is a leave voter left with? They want leave, and they’re entitled to express that.

gamerwidow · 26/05/2019 19:58

This was always a danger because the remain vote was split.
Unfortunately because people are shit at understanding data they’ll see a big vote for the Brexit party as a win for Brexit when it isn’t necessarily so. You need to add up the votes for UKIP, Brexit, Tories and compare to votes for Lib Dem, Change UK, Green, SNP and Plaid Cymru to really get an idea of the leave vs remain vote. Havent included Labour or independents in the above because you can’t tell which side they’re on.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 26/05/2019 20:20

When the Brexit Party wins the elections lets play bingo.

People didn't know what they were voting for.
Farage is corrupt so the vote should be ignored.
Project Fear.
No one voted to be poorer.
Lots of people didn't/couldn't vote.
The result was only advisory.
People voted for lots of reasons.
A hard Brexit was not on the ballot.
You can't explain why you voted for Farage so your vote should be ignored.
To many old people voted, lets wait until they are all dead then try again.
Its the rise of the Nazi party.

Scotland didn't vote for Farage.
Lets ask the people again because the more you vote the more democracy you have.
Its not a real political party.. because you know PayPal.
Farage isn't an MP
Name one thing you don't like about the EU.
Expats living outside the EU weren't able to vote.
Russia.
Donald Trump.
The vote had nothing to do with Brexit. Confused

BINGO

Interestingly skipthisbit turnout has fallen less in Remain voting areas than Leave ones.

You seem to have difficulty with the concept of multiple parties standing. It's totally possible for the Brexit party to get more votes than any other one party but still get lots less than all the Remain parties together. What we will need to look at is the total votes cast for Leave parties, which doesn't include solely the Brexit Party, as against the total for all the Remain parties. This isn't a first past the post election.

ChippyMinton · 26/05/2019 20:38

Turn out in my area, which usually reflects the national average, was around 40%, in case anyone was interested.

Langrish · 26/05/2019 20:39

whiteredrose

Because more people want to leave the EU than stay in it. Did you miss something? 😁

Wrong. That was the situation 3 years ago. Not any more.

So higher than usual but still no where near high enough, which is a shame.
