To think I’m staying in a bed bug infested hotel?

We’re staying in Venice and have been here since Froday & leave tomorrow. We have to single beds pushed together.

On the first morning OH awoke to itching and spots. We had not spent any time in Venice before our first night. Literally off the boat and into hotel as it was 10pm. They are also on the soles of his feet so don’t think they are Mosquito bits.

They are in all the areas where he wasn’t wearing clothes. His stomach, back, face, arms, lower legs and feet.

We spoke to the hotel and they are refusing to take responsibility. Said it’s probably mosquito bites.

Can anyone advise what they think?

Could be.
Bed bug bites I've seen have been sort of a lot more little bites close together than what is pictures. Definitely something biting though that shouldn't be there in your room, whether or not it's bed bugs! Yucky!!

NorthernKnickers · 26/05/2019 13:22

I've had bed bug bites from a caravan holiday bed...they were a lot smaller and much closer together than these. A quick google just now, and the images are like mine were...small bites clustered very closely together. Your OH has definitely been bitten by something though 😢

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 26/05/2019 13:24

Doesn’t look like bed bugs- usually more linear -can u shine a torch on the bed frame

NorthernKnickers · 26/05/2019 13:25

Oh...and I've definitely had mozzie bites on the soles of my feet! They don't distinguish between bodily parts OP. One bit of flesh is just as juicy as another to these little shits 🦟

My BB bites were mainly on my face. I reacted badly so they were not little. They swelled up badly.

soulrider · 26/05/2019 13:34

They don't look like bed bug bites to me.

niceupthedanceagain · 26/05/2019 13:52

My mum stayed in Venice two weeks ago and had 31 mosquito bites on her face alone :(
I think it's a bad season there this year...

flamed12 · 26/05/2019 13:54

Really. Phew. I was worried they were bed bugs and were going to travel home with us. The hotel is very basic, we had no hot water for the first 24 hours. So i assumed it was bed bugs.

I’ve not been bitten at all but I assumed it was because it was two separate beds.

Mosquitoes for sure

Ivegotthree · 26/05/2019 13:57

ps you can often see bed bugs when you look at the seams of the mattress etc.

LooksLikeImStuckHere · 26/05/2019 13:57

I don’t think bed bugs either. We had them after a stay in Salou and they were far more plentiful, close together and not as swollen.

Not that it’s any consolation for your OH...

MereDintofPandiculation · 26/05/2019 14:02

They look like my mozzie bites.

They always start itching the morning after rather than the evening - I think it's that they develop in the warmth of the bed - there may have been a mozzie in the room or he may have been bitten yesterday evening.

flamed12 · 26/05/2019 14:42

If he was bitten whist he was awake, would it be sore at the time? He isn’t aware of being bitten at any time which was why I assumed it was during his sleep.

Agree with others, definitely look like mozzy bites. I always get bitten to buggery and my DH gets left alone!

NearlySchoolTimeAgain · 26/05/2019 15:08

We don’t live too far away and the mozzies have just come out this week. Our bites look similar.

MCC85 · 26/05/2019 15:12

Could be from your boat trip, I tend to get bitten by some sort of bug if I'm near water, especially at night time.
This year it happened after sitting near a swimming pool of an evening.

ChristmasFluff · 26/05/2019 15:26

I agree, those look like mosquito/gnat bites.

I did have bed bug bites in Germany, and mine were huge! But much more red and with a more defined border than your DHs. I was sensitive to them apparently.

3brightstars3 · 26/05/2019 15:38

We went to Venice last year and I was 'attacked' by mosquitoes the moment we arrived to the resort. Luckily everyone else escaped with only a bite or two and I was covered ! It was horrible and completely ruined my holiday. I loved Italy but at night I felt as if I had to hide and was in tears from the pain of the bites. All I can recommend is use the incense they sell there in shops in spirals. Lots of spray. And antihistamine tablets for the swelling, itching
