Choices are:

BBQ
Meats (not sausages & burgers), salads, bread etc

Small hog roast
Suckling pig (only 26 guests), salads, bread etc

Steak or fish & chips, wedding cake as dessert

3 course meal with chocolates & coffee etc

Free choice off the menu: starter/main/dessert

Other, please elaborate

What would you prefer and any particular reason why?

I’d be happy with any of those, but the last two bbq at summer weddings that I have attended were the coldest, rainiest days ever. On that basis only, I would discount the bbq.

At weddings, I do prefer a sit down meal to buffets as I hate queuing up for food like I’m in a canteen (but all drrsssd up).

Puzzledandpissedoff · 23/05/2019 13:20

Free choice off the menu would be the winner for me ... presumably with 28 guests they'd have to choose beforehand?

I love barbecues, but probably not if dressed in wedding guest finery; too much potential for mess unless it's very well served

Streamside · 23/05/2019 13:20

Will the suckling pig look like a little pig ie:will it be a whole pig. Whether you're a meat eater or not the whole roasted pig thing can be difficult to look at.

MyThirdBestWig · 23/05/2019 13:21

Personally, a 3 course meal. A hog roast is tasty but I'd go for something a bit more special for my wedding.

All have very different vibes, just pick what style of wedding suits you best.

DarlingNikita · 23/05/2019 13:22

BBQ. Variety and tastiness, and it's nice and informal. You need really good non-meat things though, and interesting salads/sides.

AutumnColours9 · 23/05/2019 13:23

Bbq but give veg and gluten free options

doesthiseemright · 23/05/2019 13:23

Hmmmm.
I's say BBQ only if it were done very nicely and with a range of salads plus with cutlery and somewhere to sit.
Not a fan of lining up for a meal though.

PenguinsRabbits · 23/05/2019 13:23

Assuming a summer wedding BBQ sounds good though with all you may need vegetarian options unless certain no one is. Also love a hog roast but BBQ would give people more choice, only thing I am wary of is chicken incase underdone.

Sparklfairy · 23/05/2019 13:24

BBQ

This is somewhat contradictory/hypocritical but I'd love the hot roast but would hate the suckling pig. It's so cruel.

AdaColeman · 23/05/2019 13:24

Free choice from a menu, as it sounds as though I could sit down in comfort to eat it, second choice would be set three course meal, again the comfort factor.

I wouldn't choose the BBQ or hog roast or fish & chips, as the food wouldn't appeal to me, and what if the weather was wet, also seating might be unavailable/haphazard.

Groovee · 23/05/2019 13:26

As long as there is enough food for everyone. I was so hungry at a wedding last year which was BBQ as the bride and groom didn't give enough numbers.

SheeshazAZ09 · 23/05/2019 13:27

Yes do add veggie options and ensure there are meat alternatives to pork as so many meat-eaters don't seem to want to eat it now.

TitusP · 23/05/2019 13:27

We had the BBQ served on platters and passed down long banquet style tables which already had salads/breads on. So a sit down meal but BBQ food. Would work even better with a small wedding I think.

And yes the delicious Halloumi and separate vegetable skewers were cooked on a different BBQ and served separately to the meat because despite being a meat eater I'm not an idiot and will cater to your lifestyle choices even though it cost more. That's to the indignant poster above. Hmm

doesthiseemright · 23/05/2019 13:28

Doesn't BBQ meat get cold very quickly as well?

LazyLizzy · 23/05/2019 13:29

BBQ sounds lovely, with lots of sidey bits.

DarlingNikita · 23/05/2019 13:29

Not a fan of lining up for a meal though.
What's so bad about it? Confused I've been to a few BBQ weddings where guests queued up. Can't see the problem.

lemonjam · 23/05/2019 13:29

I’d choose bbq with lots of nice veggie options. I’m obviously not the target market but hog roasts really make me feel sick.

Mummyoflittledragon · 23/05/2019 13:30

Free choice off the menu. Unless you’re going to over cater you risk running out of food or having the veggie / vegan dishes plundered. I have read some pretty awful threads on here about specific weddings and others such as “what was the worse wedding you attended?” With countless people saying lack of food. This is the no1 priority imo so good that you’re asking.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 23/05/2019 13:30

Small hog roast
Suckling pig (only 26 guests), salads, bread etc

delicious

MustardScreams · 23/05/2019 13:30

BBQ definitely, but with fish, shellfish & veggie options as well as meat.

Mummyoflittledragon · 23/05/2019 13:31

Are there any disabled people? I am and lining up would be an issue for me.

Megan2018 · 23/05/2019 13:31

BBQ or hog roast as long as there is enough. I’ve been to 2 where the portions were tiny and it’d been a 5hr wait from ceremony to food. Awful.
But done right it is lovely

doesthiseemright · 23/05/2019 13:31

@darlingnikita there isn't anything wrong with it. I just don't like it. I think it brings out the worst in people and I just dislike the whole procedure. I think if there are any elderly relatives this is a factor as well.

HiJenny35 · 23/05/2019 13:31

Buffet or sit down meal.
Hog roast is gross, who wants to see a massive dead pig on a stick at a wedding.
Bbq sticky, dirty fingers, nightmare.
Fish & chips been done too much.

Itwouldtakemuchmorethanthis · 23/05/2019 13:31

Sit down three course, though I like buffet for pudding people’s greed amuses me.

Weddings can be really tiring getting there, ceremony, photos....sit down is VERY welcome.
