to want to choose what I put in my tins?

I'm looking for some plain white storage tins, but everything seems to have 'Cake' or 'Laundry Powder' or 'Compost' or something else that I do not want to put in the tin. Even if I did want a tin for these things, it doesn't need to say it on the side! I think I am regressing back to my teenage year of not wanting to be told what to do! Grin

Has anyone else noticed this? Do people actually like having to hunt down tins that have the correct content written on it? Or do you just put up with the text on the side and do what you want anyway?

I hate it too, I buy plain tubs and jars from Ikea, do you have one near you?

FadedRed · 23/05/2019 12:38

Rebel! Put what you like in the tins and mock the confusion of other people when they find teabags in the compost bin! Grin

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 23/05/2019 16:19

We bake & have lots of different types of sugar knocking about. They live in a "bread" bin. No one has died & we just turned the tin round so it's not showing.

HomeEdRocks18 · 23/05/2019 16:34

Ikea

snowpo · 23/05/2019 16:53

Oh I had this looking at fridges. Little pictures everywhere for meat, veges etc. I DON'T WANT TO PUT IT THERE. Chose a much more relaxed fridge.

Cheeringmeup · 23/05/2019 17:01

This irritates me too - took me ages to find a pot for utensils that didn't say "Utensils" on it. I know what they are - I don't need a prompt!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 23/05/2019 17:03

You could buy the tins and repaint them - car spray paint would do the job.

PurpleGlitter1983 · 23/05/2019 17:04

Best excuse to buy a label maker, ever.

thecatsthecats · 23/05/2019 17:06

I have a set of jars with a chalkboard section on for writing a label - that's the closest I could get!

jenthelibrarian · 23/05/2019 17:06

Glass Kilner jars, write the contents on with a chinagraph [black waxy stuff] pencil?

You can put them through the dishwasher, with metal bits on, and buy extra rubbery seals cheap off ebay.

DontCallMeShitley · 23/05/2019 17:13

I use plain glass jars and canisters with little windows in. I won't be told what to put in mine either so I don't buy them.

steppemum · 23/05/2019 17:13

Oh yes!

I want a tin, exactly THAT size, that matches my kitchen, and I want to put dog treats in it.
Any tin with dog/cat treats written on it is the wrong size.
Every other tin has something else written on it.

JUST SELL ME A TIN!

(that feels better!)

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 23/05/2019 17:15

We have 3 main types of tea bag and two types of hot chocolate. I do not want canisters saying tea, coffee, sugar. Luckily DMIL found some overly bright coloured plain canisters as a birthday present a couple of year back.

CSIblonde · 23/05/2019 17:16

If you gently wipe tins, ceramic or plastic stuff with some window cleaner & kitchen roll writing usually comes off. I've done it on lot of stuff that I liked but had naff sayings or words on etc. I saw it as a hack on You Tube. Doesn't work with anything but window cleaner tho.

Betsy86 · 23/05/2019 17:21

@snowpo a much more relaxed fridge 😂😂 love it

InACheeseAndPickle · 23/05/2019 17:25

YA probably BU because you can put whatever you want in the tin despite it telling you it's for "laundry powder" but this would bother me too!

ginghamtablecloths · 23/05/2019 17:33

An arty-crafty type could make their own labels.

Loopytiles · 23/05/2019 17:35

Agree, what’s wrong with a colour or pattern only?

myrtleberry · 23/05/2019 17:50

I saw these pretty tins on the Fat Face website, but they have Fat Face written on them.

Cockadoodledooo · 24/05/2019 15:43

Pretty sure you don't have to store fat faces in them myrtle Grin

Op can you not just buy ones you like and turn them round?!

FadedRed · 26/05/2019 20:39

Do you think Arya Stark uses Fat Face tins?

leafinthewind · 26/05/2019 20:43

In a search for a bread bin, I found two identical tins. One was labelled Bread, one Dog Biscuits. The Dog Biscuits tin was half the price, so our bread now lives in that one. 🤷

NaiceHamPlease · 26/05/2019 21:00

Dishwasher tablets in a the tin marked biscuits here. Just waiting for the builders to eat them.

whatthehe11 · 26/05/2019 23:07

I use Kilner style jars - bought on amazon in a variety of sizes.

OhMyDarling · 26/05/2019 23:11

I got some from Next
£4 and match my kitchen perfectly. One for dog treat, one for cat treats, 2xtea bags, coffee, sugar and one for the gas card and electric keys (and emergency £10).
Job done!
