I voted this morning. No one there, the people doing it looked thrilled to have something to do. We are in a tiny village so I just hope we were spread out over the day

Ronsters · 23/05/2019 20:28

I went this morning about 9am. There was a man coming out as me and another woman went in, plus another couple of people behind us. Also saw a young woman and her toddler walking up as I left, she had her polling card in her hand so think she was going to vote. It was busier than I thought it would be.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 23/05/2019 20:33

I love that the cat was using the zebra crossing!

Voted an hour ago. Voted Change UK here in London as it was tactical and also I can't bring myself to validate the LDs and Greens Trans stances. I know it's not a GE but I don't want them getting ideas.

My polling station had a list on the door of turnout for each hour since opening this morning. Turnout was increasing throughout the day.

Lizzie48 · 23/05/2019 20:35

Voted this morning, Lib Dem. Smile

tinytemper66 · 23/05/2019 20:41

Took me 2 mins from getting the voting paper to putting it in the ballot box!

Mykingdomforanickname · 23/05/2019 20:47

Just back from voting. Voted Green because I wanted (a) to vote for a party that is firmly pro-Remain and (b) to send a message to politicians to please wake up and start taking the climate emergency seriously.

lucymegan · 23/05/2019 20:48

I've no idea where my card is Confused

bellabasset · 23/05/2019 20:50

I was surprised how busy it was so will be interested to know the turnout.

Mykingdomforanickname · 23/05/2019 20:50

lucymegan you don't need your polling card to vote.

Tavannach · 23/05/2019 20:53

You don't need your polling card. Just go to the polling station. I didn't take mine.

VeniVidiViciTwice · 23/05/2019 20:53

Voted but waited until dd2 (4) finished nursery so I could take her with me so I could talk to her about where we were going and why (in age appropriate way!)

Voted Lib Dem.

greenelephantscarf · 23/05/2019 20:58

last hour - still time for a short walk, vote, stargazing

Voted at 9.30, the polling station was quiet then. Knowing what women went through to get us the vote, it would be the height of ingratitude not to use it.

Mykingdomforanickname · 23/05/2019 21:04

I thought turn out seemed at the higher end of the scale at my local polling station, but don't know whether that's because I was there at peak dog-walking time and lots of people were combining dog walking and exercising their democratic rights!

Anyway, just under an hour left if you've yet to vote. In my book, choosing not to vote amounts to a choice to help the Brexit "party" given that they have been leading in the polls.

WonderTweek · 23/05/2019 21:06

I voted this morning. I was a bit apprehensive and worried I would be turned away like so many EU citizens but it was fine. Smile My two-year-old came with me and I attempted to tell him about voting but I'm not sure he quite grasped what we were doing. It was a nice outing for him though. Grin

photoframe19 · 23/05/2019 21:08

I have no idea about politics and have never voted, I'm mid 20's and my political knowledge goes about as far as knowing that Theresa May is in charge and that's it!

Mykingdomforanickname · 23/05/2019 21:11

Agree with this. Have been watching news coverage of the Indian elections in which many people have queued for hours to vote. Wondered what they would make of people who can't even be bothered to make a 10 minute journey to vote in a polling station with no queues...

greenelephantscarf · 23/05/2019 21:17

that's quite sad actually

@greenelephantscarf part of me wishes I did know more about it but then another part of me thinks well they do what they want anyway (from what I've heard from other people/news) so what's the point in listening to what they have to say.

I haven't voted as I think I don't understand it so I wouldn't know what I was voting for.

I don't even know what these elections are for today, are they to get a new prime minister?

I understand nothing about brexit or what it means for the country.

I know it probably is sad but it's just something that no one has ever told me about.

Oakenbeach · 23/05/2019 21:42

Theresa May is in charge

I think the Downing St cat is more in charge of the country than she is!

BumbleBeeWineGlass · 23/05/2019 21:43

I went after work at 9.20pm - off the back of caring for the elderly - Change UK here, tactical vote to stick 2 up to NF.

Oakenbeach · 23/05/2019 21:44

Just voted.... Lib Dem

I wonder who is actually voting Tory and Labour. It wouldn’t surprise me if they got less than 20% combined...

Oakenbeach · 23/05/2019 21:48

I have! Conservative. Am I the only one?

Who would have thought it... Theresa is on MN!

mamaduckbone · 23/05/2019 21:50

I was shocked at how few names were crossed off on the list when I went (at 9.30pm so unlikely to be a last minute rush). Really quite depressing.

Oysterbabe · 23/05/2019 21:53

I went after I'd put the kids to bed and it was quiet, few names crossed off the list. I think a lot of people have just given up on the whole shitshow.
