I’ve noticed about five different people in the last few days saying ‘rest bite’ when they mean respite.

It’s making my fucking teeth itch!

Great article Daisypond.

MindyStClaire · 24/05/2019 11:27

It's haitch across the vast majority of ROI. I'm only aware of the community divide in NI, where judging someone's pronunciation of the letter would be viewed as sectarian.

Acis · 24/05/2019 13:02

"It's not that big of a deal"
"It's not that sunny of a day"

Why would you put the "of" in? What function can it possibly serve in that sentence?

Daenerys77 · 24/05/2019 13:33

I think the battle is well and truly lost, but I really don't like 'invite' used as a noun.

I feel the same about the use of 'gift', or even worse, 'gift with' as a synonym for 'give'.

Wavey123 · 24/05/2019 14:01

One thing I see often is people spelling woman as women. Eg “Look at that women over there”. They would never get it wrong with men and man.

I have seen things about cyclists peddling. If it's in a race, perhaps they meddle.

Corna · 24/05/2019 18:59

To all intensive purposes anyone?
Should of checked first...

Cottongusset · 24/05/2019 19:06

It's would of instead of would have that makes me shudder.

SoCallMeMaybe · 24/05/2019 19:11

My friend says ironical instead of ironic. She also says it a lot because she doesn’t really understand what it means.

Cottongusset · 24/05/2019 19:11

I also had a note sent to me at the office asking that I "Fire a shot across his bowels".

somecakefather · 24/05/2019 19:51

My friend says ironical instead of ironic

😆 Your post reminded me of hearing "dramatical" instead of dramatic.

Andylion · 24/05/2019 21:04

My friend says ironical instead of ironic. She also says it a lot because she doesn’t really understand what it means.

It seems that one knows what the word "random" means.

luckylavender · 24/05/2019 21:18

Gift as a verb. Hate it so much.

nooriginalnameshere · 24/05/2019 21:22

I saw "themselfs" the other day

nooriginalnameshere · 24/05/2019 21:24

ChristmasFluff · 24/05/2019 21:39

Aitch is definitely without the 'h'.

Was my Dad's nickname (ekename?) since the 1930s cos his name began with H.

Poochnewbie · 24/05/2019 21:42

It’s ‘loose’ and ‘lose’ for me. Oh, and ‘carn’t’.

ChristmasFluff · 24/05/2019 21:44

Two more lost battles but it pisses me of:

'Literally' used when someone means 'metaphorically'.

'Disinterested' used in place of 'uninterested'.

Poochnewbie · 24/05/2019 21:44

Annnd... yous as the plural you...that makes me have to bite down very hard on my lip.

ChristmasFluff · 24/05/2019 21:44

Oh yikes - OFF! I can spell, honestly. My phone doesn't know that though

ChristmasFluff · 24/05/2019 21:46

Ooooh, I love 'yous'! Reminds me of Scotland - and like the plural 'you' tense in French etc.

Bumbalaya · 24/05/2019 21:47

I heard someone on radio 4 this morning saying “more calmer”
I really hate this or more fairer etc it feels and sounds wrong let alone being wrong.

ChristmasFluff · 24/05/2019 21:49

The BBC is generally very fond of 'secetary' and 'nukiller'

Accountant222 · 24/05/2019 21:49

Gawjus does it for me....... wtf !

AnnaComnena · 24/05/2019 21:54

Gift as a verb. Hate it so much.

'gifted him with'

What's wrong with 'gave him'?
