I’ve noticed about five different people in the last few days saying ‘rest bite’ when they mean respite.

It’s making my fucking teeth itch!

My workplace has "familypractice"in the email address.

Another health professional kept complaining that we had given her the wrong email address because her emails were not coming through.

Turns out she was putting "familypractise"in the email address.

It would never occur to me to think that I would have to spell the word practice in this context to anyone, let alone another health professional.

BuildBuildings · 23/05/2019 05:45

Hear we fucking go... Coz your better than all the plebs who cant spell. Som people have dyslexia, dyspaxia or unattentive Adhd. That cause spellin and gamma problems. Your not better than them.

(ps hope all my intentional spelling and grammar errors made your teeth itch) Grin

Champagneformyrealfriends · 23/05/2019 06:51

Years ago I knew a woman who would write “are” instead of “our” Angry

Nillynally · 23/05/2019 06:53

Mine is the use of the word 'myself'. Myself and DP would like to announce 🤬 although technically grammar and not spelling

Thrownbythis · 23/05/2019 06:53

I think rest bite is a great alternative - summing up exactly what it is!

sleepysleepy19 · 23/05/2019 06:54

@Ironfloor269 I’m a teacher, and the sheer amount of misused possessive apostrophes amongst my colleagues is very embarrassing 😩😩😩

Whoopstheregomyinsides · 23/05/2019 06:55

I get the misspelling of words which sound different. Dislike it but get it. Should of, however...really bugs me. I wish phones or computers would autocorrect it

Laura221 · 23/05/2019 06:56

Can I just say spelling is a really tricky one, I went to an awful primary and high school where spelling was not high on there list. I didn't know my ABC until I had children and things like January I didn't know the correct spelling. Luckily I've spent a long time teaching myself and also learning from my children! I have no idea and nouns and prefixes ect and have learnt due to my children. Also I was always in the top sets for all my lesson all of my school time so you can only imagine what it was like for others. It's really not something you should be annoyed about.

Laura221 · 23/05/2019 06:58

Haha at all the mistakes in my post! Sorry if it rages some of you. Didn't notice the auto correct on some of the words.

DuggeesWoggle · 23/05/2019 07:00

Loose and lose I think is my all time top annoying spelling mistake. Restbite is just bonkers!

It often makes me chuckle to see definitely spelled defiantly due to the context but I think it's a predictive text error more often than not.

I don't know when the pronunciation of mischievous became mischee-vee-ous but that can sod off right now.

Allowed myself a wee smirk at the poster on the fussy kids thread who was adamant she wouldn't 'panda' to her kids Grin.

Bicnod · 23/05/2019 07:12

Pronounciation. I'll just leave that there.

DuggeesWoggle · 23/05/2019 07:15

Ha ha I just had to check my post bicnod in case I was guilty of that offence! Thankfully not.

When typing a post about spelling and grammar errors it's wise to check, check and check again! Grin

DistanceCall · 23/05/2019 07:24

"Play on my mind". It's prey. Prey on my mind.

Bicnod · 23/05/2019 07:28

@DuggeesWoggle Grin I did clock you'd written it in your post correctly - sorry for giving you the fear!!

Itstartedinbarcelona · 23/05/2019 07:30

I hate pacific instead of specific. So many people say it.

Esspee · 23/05/2019 07:35

Every time I hear someone say definATEly I want to scream "It's DEFinitely!!!!!"

sashh · 23/05/2019 07:36

My all time annoying one is "there" instead of "their", drives me crazy!

It's not a spelling mistake it is a homophone mistake. Please don't get me started on the MN 'acronyms'.

DuggeesWoggle · 23/05/2019 07:37

Imagine the shame bicnod Grin

Bluestitch · 23/05/2019 07:38

'Makes my teeth itch' is worse than rest bite imo

This.

Itsjeremycorbynsfault · 23/05/2019 07:38

I see aloud instead of allowed quite often

x2boys · 23/05/2019 07:40

Auto correct doesnt help though, mine puts random words in sentences and often makes me out to be completely illiterate sometimes I have to change words back several times , rather tha use the word ,auto correct thinks I should use Hmm

Tanith · 23/05/2019 07:41

"I think the battle is well and truly lost, but I really don't like 'invite' used as a noun."

Cut it further to 'invi' and it'll catch on as the latest trendy word Smile

Lllot5 · 23/05/2019 07:47

Maybe a lot of these are autocorrect mistakes, rather than spelling mistakes.
Where did ‘super’ suddenly spring from?
Myself, yourself, now that’s annoying

BoreOfWhabylon · 23/05/2019 07:47

Thunder and lightening.

Drives. Me. Mad.

MRex · 23/05/2019 07:50

Brought instead of bought is the one that does it for me. I can't think of ever seeing it written in real life, only on mumsnet, but so copiously on mumsnet!
