I’ve noticed about five different people in the last few days saying ‘rest bite’ when they mean respite.

It’s making my fucking teeth itch!

Sashh 🙈🙈 more readier?! Fucks sake, that's awful.

More ready
Or readier
You can't have both together!!! Grin

SilverySurfer · 23/05/2019 12:38

There are so many but these are my pet hates:

could/would/should OF instead of HAVE
queue instead of cue
invite instead of invitation
ect instead of etc
defiantly instead of definitely
myself and DH went.....instead of my DH and I and all the incorrectly used myselves and yourselves.
Some also appear to have problems with strangling verbs, eg, 'I could have went to...' or 'I done all night feeds', or 'he now has took DS out'

ChipSandwich · 23/05/2019 12:38

Love the 'anagram

Me too but disappointed with the 'angina'

ThatCurlyGirl · 23/05/2019 12:39

@ChipSandwich Haha me too!

ambereeree · 23/05/2019 12:40

Tender hooks annoys me.

Abi197 · 23/05/2019 12:44

defiantly ! Angry

ThatCurlyGirl · 23/05/2019 12:55

Pacific, written or spoken.

I pacifically dislike that one. Wink

Isn't criticising language, spelling and/or grammar considered a No No on MN?

Criticising an individual poster, especially when they’re seeking help and advice, is pretty arsey; especially when coupled with ignoring the whole point of the thread.
But I don’t see a problem with discussion in general about common, annoying or funny errors in SPAG.

myself and DH went.....instead of my DH and I and all the incorrectly used myselves and yourselves.

Agree with this but even worse when people say "and I" when it should be "and me". He gave it to my wife and me, they spoke to my wife and me is correct NOT they spoke to my wife and I. Drives me mad.

'Upmost' instead of 'utmost' makes me crazy.

"she did her upmost to finish in time".

Please God Sad.

'Bias' used as the adjective and not the abstract noun.

"the jury is bias towards him". IT'S BIASED YOU FOOL.

Eliza9919 · 23/05/2019 13:39

People getting he's and his wrong makes my eyes want to fall out.

There is someone on my Facebook that gets this wrong every time and I wonder how she even reads, her writing is so bad.

AlexaAmbidextra · 23/05/2019 13:45

Also I’ve noticed bring instead of take.

This is commonly an Irish thing.

Hotseat · 23/05/2019 13:46

YANBU I'm a bit grammar moaner. My pet peeve is "Irregardless" itchy teeth overload.

SerenDippitty · 23/05/2019 13:47

Mine is the use of the word 'myself'. Myself and DP would like to announce 🤬 although technically grammar and not spelling

Oh god me too. It is NEVER correct to use myself to start a sentence, unless it’s a sentence about the word myself.

AlexaAmbidextra · 23/05/2019 13:50

Something that’s seen quite frequently on here is bias instead of biased, ie. she was bias.

Also, the word ‘anyway’ seemed to have acquired an ‘s’ and is now, for many, anyways.

sashh · 23/05/2019 13:55

PlinkPlink

I did tell her, and in a quiet word way not in front of the class.

missmouse101 · 23/05/2019 13:55

I can't bear ridiculous apostrophe usage. Missing it out when it needs to be used and sticking it in just for the hell of it in a plural. That thread title with the Hushista's......aarrgghh.

Shootingstar1115 · 23/05/2019 14:07

My pet hate is ‘draws’ instead of ‘drawers’. Even worse when I see ‘chester draws’ on selling sites. Drives me potty 🤭🤭

Guardsman18 · 23/05/2019 14:14

This thread has made me laugh!

Mine is when I'm reading something and the author writes those ones.

It's those! Just those. No need for the ones!

I agree with HPLikecraft (fab name!) that it shouldn't be pointed out when a poster is asking for advice. (Another one - advise/advice)

FuckBrussel · 23/05/2019 14:18

I once saw a lady described as 'whaling and balling' -presumably she's very good at multitasking.

Grin Grin

SnappedandFartedagain · 23/05/2019 14:26

I keep seeing the word “councilling” used lately. You’re stressed hun? Have you tried councilling?

diddl · 23/05/2019 14:41

It's not restpite though-so why restbite?

I'm thinking that people just don't know the word at all & are guessing!

Newhandbag · 23/05/2019 14:46

My neighbour posted a card through at Christmas with the offer of attending a Christmas 'door reef' making class, I didn't go Grin
