I'm asking for a promotion tomorrow - AIBU to ask you to help me grow a backbone?

I've got an idea for a new role in my firm. It's filling a gap I think needs filling, and my manager agrees and supports me, and thinks it's definitely something I could do. We've get a meeting with the relevant member of the board tomorrow morning to discuss it.

If they go for it, I think it's a jump up in responsibility and role so would also like a payrise etc to go with it.

The thing is though, despite being nearly 40 and knowing I'm doing a good job at the moment, I'm still wracked with fear at the idea of going in and pushing both my idea and myself, and saying I think I can create this role and deserve a promotion for it!

Any tips how to get a good backbone and go in there and sell this all? Especially with my manager in there too, for some reason that makes me feel less able to be direct (but she has to be there to discuss the knock on staffing issues this would create)

Why do you have to sell yourself to the board, surely it would be your manager who needs to get the ball rolling on this?!

Also you have their support, and you're doing a good job. They can only say no and then in which case you present the examples of work you have done and ask what else further you could do to get that promotion. Taking initiative.
