What's your go-to on the nights where you don't have the energy to do a big meal?

Pasta or rice salad with whatever I have around: eggs, olives, sweetcorn, tuna, beans and ....mayo. They love it. Very quick and minimal washing up

JellycatElfie · 23/05/2019 18:12

Microwaveable rice and curry from a tin!

BackBoiler · 23/05/2019 18:15

@Elephants just leave the cold cheese out a bit to get to room temp after slicing and sandwich on hot buttered toast. It doesn't melt but it warms a little and it's delicious

Tunnocks34 · 23/05/2019 18:15

Super noodle stir fry. Pack of supernoodles, frozen peas, frozen sweetcorn, chopped up ham or fishfingers mixed in.

Picnic tea which is admittedly the kids favourite, crackers, grated cheese, cucumber, ham, celery, strawberries or whatever fruit needs using.

Fish fingers, frozen chips and frozen peas if I have more than 20 minutes and it’s just my lack of arsedness that’s calling for a rushed tea rather than time.

Tomato soup and a ham and cheese sandwich!

If it’s a Friday, McDonalds!

Tunnocks34 · 23/05/2019 18:17

Also boiled egg and soldiers is a big winner here.

All depends on what they’ve eaten in the day too and what I want to eat as we eat as a family each night so if they are having a crap chucked together tea - so am I!

Booboo66 · 23/05/2019 18:18

Pasta and pesto, will stick some tinned mackerel and peas or sweet corn in if I can be bothered for some extra nutrients

Mutinerie · 23/05/2019 18:22

Cornflakes. I'm not even kidding. I'm the worst mum on mumsnet!

Nearly47 · 23/05/2019 18:25

When really can't be bothered tomato soup and cheese on toast. Or if we had a big lunch I sometimes get them to do their own sandwichesGrin

Crummyfunnymummy · 23/05/2019 18:27

Frozen pizzas, pasta pesto with olives/ham/whatever chucked in, tuna mayo sweet corn and pasta (with a few carrot and celery sticks on the side), noddles and stir fry veg with drizzle of honey and soy sauce, picnic tea (sausage rolls, breadsticks, grapes, cheese, carrots, apple....anything really), fishfinger pittas.....

YeOldeTrout · 23/05/2019 18:40

Beans on toast when they were small. Am baffled by bigger efforts.

jessebuni · 23/05/2019 18:43

Either pasta with whatever quick veg I can find with some passata, Mayo, or tinned chopped tomatoes.

Alternatively a sandwich or toastie with salad.

Gilld69 · 23/05/2019 18:43

Picnic tea

jessebuni · 23/05/2019 18:45

Also...sometimes my DS(10) makes the food if we are in a rush and I need to do several other things (such as put food shopping away) while he does that.

Jellybeansincognito · 23/05/2019 19:04

Chilli and rice, rice is just a bung on job whilst I cook some mince and a jar of sauce, I do like to make it from scratch but if I cba the mild jars are ok.

Pizza and crudités

Pasta, tuna, cream cheese and sweet corn. Always goes down a storm and takes seconds.

YoungAmerican · 23/05/2019 19:11

pasta + grated cheese they get to sprinkle on

Frankfurters in a hotdog bun (take about 4 mins)

Scampi/nuggets + potato waffles (left in oven with rest) + peas (extra effort)

Occasionally 'picnic' of something like plain wrap plus tomatoes and cheese they can stick in it, carrot sticks, cheesy biscuits
