What should I buy my daughter for her birthday with a £250 budget?

Hi, thought I would download Mumsnet as I think it may be a good idea for answers about things I need to know. Anyway I will carry on with what I want to say.

It is my daughters birthday soon, she will be 15 but I have no idea what to buy her.
I don't want to spend too much but want her to feel happy.
I have a budget of £250 but she is asking me for things such as an Apple Watch but they can't cost me around £300 which is over my budget.

Any suggestions on what I can buy for her?

A second hand apple watch?

jenny123dyke · 22/05/2019 13:34

That may be a good idea
Do you know how much they can cost
I just don't want her to get upset as that may be the only thing I manage to buy her.

You can buy them on eBay for £200.

PawPawNoodle · 22/05/2019 13:34

Is she getting any other birthday money? Propose to her that if she puts £50 in from that you'll pay the rest on the (stupid and pointless for a 15 year old) apple watch.

bridgetreilly · 22/05/2019 13:35

Could you club together with grandparents to get the Apple Watch, maybe?

jenny123dyke · 22/05/2019 13:35

@outsho Thankyou

@PolPotNoodle yes she will get about 50-£100 from family/friends

@bridgetreilly maybe I could ask but they are away for a month and her birthday is in 2 weeks.
They go away on Saturday.

I wouldn’t buy it second hand. She’d be upset. Could you say to her that you will contribute £250 for the watch, and £50 needs to come out of birthday money/savings/pocket money you might give her over the next few weeks?

jenny123dyke · 22/05/2019 13:37

iPhone XR

What does she like? At that age I would have been thrilled with some books, teas, chocolates etc. Or you could just give her the money and let her pick her own present.

jenny123dyke · 22/05/2019 13:38

She likes chocolate and is really into her makeup

My two would be happy with the money at that age. I would give her £225 and spend £25 on something of your choice for her to open. Even though my boys liked having hard cash they always love opening something unexpected.

jenny123dyke · 22/05/2019 13:43

@LiverpoolSupportingMummy it's not a crap phone I payed so much for that

@jenny123dyke @LiverpoolSupportingMummy is having you on

Your daughter seems to have expensive taste for 15! Nothing wrong with that of course but are you in a position to indulge this taste and if not, how does she react when you tell her she's excessive and it's a no?

19lottie82 · 22/05/2019 13:45

Liverpool what on earth are you talking about? The XR is a good phone! There is hardly any difference spec wise between that and the XS.

OP as someone mentioned you should be able to pick up an Apple Watch for £250 on eBay.

MyDcAreMarvel · 22/05/2019 13:46

Liverpool is being sarcastic!

TheFlis12345 · 22/05/2019 13:47

I suspect the previous poster was being sarcastic Smile

I've reported your comment @LiverpoolSupportingMummy as , putting this together with your other thread, you're clearly a troll

NannyRed · 22/05/2019 13:49

My (30 yo) daughter got an imitation Apple Watch from the internet for £30.

My 14 yo granddaughter likes shopping, why don’t you take your daughter for a day shopping, lunch and just buy her everything she wants until you’re sp3nt up. £250 is a good budget for shopping at Lush, Mac, New Look etc.

PawPawNoodle · 22/05/2019 13:49

@LiverpoolSupportingMummy

How is an Apple Watch stupid and pointless?

Because the main features of an apple watch appeal to adults so are arguably wasted on children. Unless the daughter is into fitness and likes to track her BPM and exercise etc, it's more likely she wants the watch to be showy to her mates and push the boundaries in class by doing phone-related things without the teacher seeing.
