What should I buy my daughter for her birthday with a £250 budget?

Hi, thought I would download Mumsnet as I think it may be a good idea for answers about things I need to know. Anyway I will carry on with what I want to say.

It is my daughters birthday soon, she will be 15 but I have no idea what to buy her.
I don't want to spend too much but want her to feel happy.
I have a budget of £250 but she is asking me for things such as an Apple Watch but they can't cost me around £300 which is over my budget.

Any suggestions on what I can buy for her?

Maybe an eBay or apple refurbished voucher and she can add some of her other gift money ? Maybe ask her what SHE'D prefer ? She sounds like she has a good head on her shoulders and fabulous taste so just involve her and ask her, so she knows her options 🙂🙂 xx

Get the Apple Watch on a contract for £20/month? EE have good deals.

HasThisSoddingNameGoneToo · 22/05/2019 14:19

You need a monthly data contract for an Apple Watch anyway, I think.

pencilpot99 · 22/05/2019 14:21

For example:

store.musicmagpie.co.uk/products/apple-watch-42mm-black-stainless-steel-case-black-sport-band

uk.webuy.com/product-detail?id=sawawat3gol38b&categoryName=apple-watch&superCatName=electronics&title=watch-series-3-%28gps%29-no-strap-gold-aluminium-38mm-b

I have bought refurbished Apple products from both these sellers in the past. Music Magpie tends to be cheaper and comes with a 12 month warranty. CEX (the webuy.com website) are a bit more expensive but have a 24 month warranty. Once you have taken the phone/watch/whatever out of the box and started using it, it's practically impossible to tell new from refurbished anyway.

You can shop around for good deals on Apple watches if that’s what she really wants. For instance, very has an Apple Watch 3 for £279, but you get £50 cash back to your account if you chose buy now pay 12 months later. I’ve done this before and it’s actually worked out cheaper than getting it anywhere else, and if you pay it off before the end of the payment period then you aren’t charged interest, you can pay it off in one lump sum.

Jammiebammie · 22/05/2019 14:35

Also wowcher have offers on refurbished ones here

PositiveVibez · 22/05/2019 14:44

At that age I would have been thrilled with some books, teas, chocolates etc

When were you 15?. Did you come from an Enid Blyton book?

OP said she has a £250 budget.

Let's not start with the 'I could feed a family of 50 for a year on that' posts.

A refurb is a good idea OP. Discuss it with her. If she wants a brand new one, she needs to put her bday money towards it.

My daughter is 15 in July and has been hinting at Apple AirPods. Gifts get smaller but more expensive.

jenny123dyke · 22/05/2019 15:39

Thank you everybody go the good suggestions
I think I will buy her a small present to give her and then give her the rest of the money.
With the extra money from family I can afford the watch.
Thank you.

250 gifts from poundland?
donate to charity?

Why on earth would you ask strangers what to buy your daughter

Tartyflette · 22/05/2019 15:49

As well as the MAC makeup lesson you could buy her a year's subscription for a monthly beauty box like Glossybox (think there are some reviews for them on here) -- the pretty box arriving every month is a real treat.
And they have really nice stuff in them, some minis, some full size. She'll very quickly build up quite a stock of beauty goodies and can always swap or sell things she doesn't want to friends.

Beats headphones

Schlep · 22/05/2019 15:54

I would second Beats headphones or some Dr Martens :)

Apple do reconditioned Apple Watches within your budget. I have one and it's fantastic. They also come with a one year guarantee. www.apple.com/uk/shop/refurbished/watch

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 22/05/2019 16:24

My son paid £70 for his Apple Watch off a school friend (yes parents knew he was selling it to my son). It was a novelty for a few weeks, and now it’s sat on the side.

qj17 · 22/05/2019 16:29

I'd get her a nice eyeshadow palette and some new make up brushes if she's into that sort of thing. Beauty bay have some great palettes with good pigment.

sansou · 22/05/2019 16:32

Cheaper Beats model

pandarific · 22/05/2019 16:40

Wow, that's a lovely amount for a present. I think I would buy her a pretty vintage locket for approx £75ish and give her the cash to spend as she wishes - with the understanding it should let be frittered on coffees etc but on something/s she really really wants.
