Thought some of you might be interested in this. I happened upon it this morning. Cable and Farage debate brexit and tomorrows elections.

Hosted by the Telegraph but also on youtube. It doesn't start till about 19 minutes in and lasts about 35 mins.

Unashamed Vince Cable fan here. But even an ardent Brexiteer would admit he is a hundred times the statesman Farage - or any of the other party leaders - will ever be. Calm, measured, thoughtful, with a clear message. I really hope other Remainer refugees from Labour/Cons will vote LibDems tomorrow. It’s all very well bleating on about the toxic legacy of the Clegg coalition era but in the face of Osborne and Cameron’s determined self serving careerism he (and the Lib Dems) we always going to be fairly impotent.
Thanks for the link OP, sorry if you’re a Brexiteer and I’m banging on about Vince. 😬

It's ok I like Vince too :) and I enjoyed the debate. I thought on the whole it was relaxed and good natured and so much nicer to watch than the many of the interviews we have been seeing lately. I think that was a lot to do with Vince's calm attitude. And there were some good points on both sides, actually. It also was refreshing to see 2 people with a clear message, giving clear answers, rather than all the obfuscating conservative and labour politicians who seem rather cagey about answering straightforward questions, because they are all trying to keep onside different groups of supporters with different opinions.

Yes, I definitely got the feeling that there was a level of mutual respect there. Wish the last three years of debating had been more along these lines!

Absolutely!

I like Vince but he seems to have shifted his view on another referendum. At one stage he seemed to be saying we could have one but only if the options were Teresa May's deal or remain.

Gth1234 · 22/05/2019 12:34

I will watch, but I assume Nigel destroys Vince.
Cable looks ready to retire to me.

You need Rosy-Remain tinted spectacles to thing the lib dems are right. It's time they took the "democrats" out of their name. They aren't democrats, like all the other other left leaning showers.

It's CF-ery of alarming proportion to think a second referendum should be May's deal or Remain. It's should be May's Deal or No Deal.

badlydrawnperson · 22/05/2019 14:00

....and that's a reason why having another referendum might be tricky - no-one can agree on the options.

Vince Cable sold off Royal Mail - even Thatcher didn’t stoop that low.

badlydrawnperson · 22/05/2019 14:47

Vince cost us £300k with his "war on Murdoch". Although I hate Murdoch almost as much as Thatcher so I am conflicted.
