To be gutted about the weather next week

Total first world problem but I’m still disappointed!
We booked a little holiday cottage for half term in wales. We saved hard for it and booked May instead of Easter as the weather is usually better. Well it’s going to be 14 degrees and rainy ☹️
I know I’m lucky to be able to afford a holiday and the weather can never be guaranteed and all that but my visions of days on the beach are dashed ☹️

Anglesey is lovely. There is also the Welsh mountain zoo not too far away, can go on a steam train, it can indeed have it's own weather and if you head back to Betws y Coed there is a forest roller coaster and tree walk which is fab

KissUntilTheyDieOfRabies · 22/05/2019 07:10

one of the best things about living in Wales is being able to visit the beaches all year round.

I would happily rent somewhere, even a caravan park again, by the beach, at xmas.

In Wales.

Better than being stuck where I am now.

So definitely a yabu, I'm afraid. It's ace fun scavenging the beach when it's too nippy to dip in the ocean

Fedupluck · 22/05/2019 07:15

😭 if it makes you feel less alone, I get married week after next and was praying for good weather. Doesn’t look like I’ll get it at this rate.

We purposely chose the date as we thought it was likely to be nice. Have spent a lot of money to create our perfect day and now it’s going to piss it down 😒

Witchend · 22/05/2019 07:17

We used to holiday in Wales as a child.
My parents got a windshield with a roof so we could still go down to the beach when it was raining.
There's a particular sort of heavy rain we called Porthmadog Weather. That was when it was too heavy for even my parents on the beach.

underneaththeash · 22/05/2019 07:29

The forecasters have no idea what the weather will be like in a few hours, never mind next week.

Stay positive Smile

notoafternoontea · 22/05/2019 07:32

It's my fault OP, you can blame me. I am the holiday weather demon. If I've planned to go away you can bet a month's mortgage it'll piss it down.

We're going away next week too, and I'm looking at the forecast, and out of my office window and fuming.

There will be a lot of wine.

HelloJackieYouLookNice · 22/05/2019 07:34

I live in Wales (south) and we’re heading to the North so I’ve got no excuse for being disappointed by the forecast but I still am Grin

We will be in the mountains but the Llŷn looks more positive so we will just travel to where it’s driest, plus I’ve made wet weather plans - we are NT members so can just hide out in Plas Newydd or Penrhyn Castle if it looks too awful, or there are plenty of old mines to explore. It’s changing almost hourly at the moment so I don’t really believe it anyway!

PetrichorRain · 22/05/2019 07:38

We’re in Cornwall this week. All last week the weather forecast for this week was saying it would be grey with occasional showers, around 14 degrees max. But it’s been glorious sun every day! So it’s very possible it’ll be the same for you, OP. Fingers crossed!

HB2019 · 22/05/2019 07:38

@maddening The new sun centre (SC2) is open and Rhyl beach is beautiful!

The kite surf cafe, restaurant and bar at the pavilion, harbour cafe, and carvery pub on the prom show that there's a lot still going on in Rhyl but we don't mind if you don't visit, keeps it more pleasant for us locals

To be gutted about the weather next week
Maryann1975 · 22/05/2019 07:39

You need a different weather bbc are saying it’s going to be dry in Porthmadog next week And between 15-17 for the majority of the week. I’m happy enough with that for holiday weather. And there is plenty of time for all that to blow over and the next heatwave to start.

SomewhereInbetween1 · 22/05/2019 07:41

I'm getting married next Saturday so hoping for a dry day as the ceremony is outside!

CookPassBabtridge · 22/05/2019 07:42

My weather forecast has been so unsettled for the last 3 weeks, it keeps predicting rain for later in the week or next week and this always changes to sunny/cloudy a few days before.

Yabbers · 22/05/2019 07:42

@hazeyjane

Frost holiday since last year? However do you cope🙄

babysharkah · 22/05/2019 07:44

It's Wales!! Expect everything in one day.

Ohnotanothernamechange · 22/05/2019 07:49

It's far more likely to rain in rural Wales than its not in my experience.

notoafternoontea · 22/05/2019 07:51

@HB2019 we drive to Holyhead every year and every year as we drive past Rhyl we say "we really should stop there" but we don't as it's kind of at the wrong point in the journey. Your photo has just persuaded me to look at our plans for this summer and see if we can fit it in :)

Ohnotanothernamechange · 22/05/2019 07:55

Also, Rhyl Sun Centre has been rebuilt as a modern indoor water park. I've not been but apparently it's really good now. Bless Rhyl, they ARE trying Grin

Eggshellnutmeg · 22/05/2019 07:57

I thought that the Rhyl sun Centre had closed down, delighted that it hasn’t!

BlackeyedGruesome · 22/05/2019 07:57

last year we arrived in wales.... just as the heatwave come to an end.

Lovemusic33 · 22/05/2019 08:10

We went to wales last year for Easter and it rained all week and snowed, was miserable so we didn’t book anything this year. We were going to go camping last week but our Campervan is in the garage for major repairs so I’m pleased the weathers looking rubbish for next week 🤣

Laura221 · 22/05/2019 08:11

At least the waterfall will be spectacular!

flapjackfairy · 22/05/2019 08:12

I have a caravan in north Wales . The weather is always changing and even when the forecast is grim it often clears during the day.
In the 10 yrs I have been going it has only ever rained once in Llandudno for example even when it was raining elsewhere. It almost has its own microclimate in some places so dont despair.
And I love Anglesey. On a sunny day there is no more beautiful place. Plas Newydd is lovely and you have the sea zoo and Pilas Palis ( or however it is spelt )is good for a wet day . Greenwood has good lots to do some indoors and the slate mine at Llechwedd ( again excuse spelling any Welsh people on here ) is good on a wet day unless you want to zipline of course. There is Carnaervon castle , Conwy, the Welsh mountain zoo at Colwyn Bay , though you need a decent day for that one . And of course you can put waterproofs on and head to Betys y Coed and watch the waterfalls and paddle in the river. Go early to park there if you can. Bodnant Garden is beautiful as well and there is an aerial climbing rope place near there as well.
See loads to see and do whatever the weather brings . Hope you have a great few days x

sackrifice · 22/05/2019 08:19

Surely everyone knows that you get all weathers in Wales, and that's just in one morning.

themiddlestair · 22/05/2019 08:20

We have our holiday in England next week too. We only get one weeks hols a year.

Still being optimistic - over the years we've had several short breaks where it was showing cloud and rain right up to the day/ couple of days before we left and it turned out lovely.

If forecast is right - we are going to wear the right gear and make the best of it, and try not to let inevitable disappointment ruin the hols.

themiddlestair · 22/05/2019 08:23

Loving this thread - I'm going to save it. We actually live in Wales but not been here long so lots of excellent tips for places to visit!
