To be gutted about the weather next week

Total first world problem but I’m still disappointed!
We booked a little holiday cottage for half term in wales. We saved hard for it and booked May instead of Easter as the weather is usually better. Well it’s going to be 14 degrees and rainy ☹️
I know I’m lucky to be able to afford a holiday and the weather can never be guaranteed and all that but my visions of days on the beach are dashed ☹️

OP. I can really understand you being pissed off. I always warn people to never book a UK holiday at the same time as me. I can pretty much guarantee it will be sunshine until the day I go, be shitty and grey all week and then sunshine will return as soon as I get home. It’s hard to not take it personally. 😄

SirVixofVixHall · 21/05/2019 23:28

I am in Wales and it has been freakishly dry where I am, pretty hot days. It is so dry that I am really hoping for some rain, my garden needs water and the hose won’t reach most of it.
It does look as though we will get some, but only showers.

We are going to Anglesey - Trearddur Bay.
Thank you for your replies. They have cheered me up.

Anglesey is gorgeous...so many beautiful places to visit/ walks to go on
You must go to Newborough Beach and walk over to Llandwyn island( check tides- the views over to the mountains are stunning)...absolutely gorgeous, if it's raining then there's plenty of shelter in the woods...try and spot a red squirrel or two
South Stack lighthouse, great place to see nesting seabirds
Take a rib ride on Menai straits...boat trip from Beaumaris to Puffin Island...lots of lovely places to eat on Anglesey too from beach cafes to gastro pubs ...it's was beautiful and sunny yesterday- not quite 'taps aff' weather yet though

cantfindname · 22/05/2019 05:39

Get over yourself and think yourself lucky you are getting a holiday at all.

20 years since I had a holiday so stop moaning.

PeakedTooEarly · 22/05/2019 05:45

Welcome to Wales Butt!

DuchessAnnogovia · 22/05/2019 05:53

It's Wales. It rains. A lot!

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 22/05/2019 06:12

That's Wales for you!

We went in the first week of July one year and it rained every day except the last day.

We went in April and had freezing temperatures and snow too but that was slightly stupid of us. Coming from the south coast we sort of expected winter to be over.

On the more positive side, we went to the Brecon Beacons a couple of years ago and had wall to wall sunshine all week. That was the May half term.

Anglesey is glorious so I'm sure you will have a wonderful time whatever the weather.

Nishky · 22/05/2019 06:16

We had holidays in Wales when I was growing up, my dad even rewrote the song ‘Men of Harlech- by adding ‘get your wellies, and your boots and umberbrellies.......’

But it was always fabulous and Anglesey is fab

Ouch44 · 22/05/2019 06:36

I really want to go back to Anglesey . A friend has a FB group called walking on Anglesey and always posting beautiful pictures. Rest of the family aren't as keen. We did spot a fab cottage there but we are off to N Ireland where it'll rain even more than Wales no doubt!

As pp said the rib ride would be fine in the rain. Also crabbing on the pier in Beaumaris. We had a legendary crabbing session years ago and the children still remember it. There is also a fishing trip to an island from there where you can spot seals too

Also dying to go to the stepping stones and Newborough

notatwork · 22/05/2019 06:39

Cheap waterproofs are your friend. There's actually very little you can't do in the rain if you have the right clothes, as long as it isn't freezing or blowing a gale.
Wales is beautiful, and you have a cosy cottage. Have a lovely time.

Ouch44 · 22/05/2019 06:41

I have just looked at the weather in N Ireland. On the plus side it's not raining on 3 days and won't need sun cream!

BumbleBeeWineGlass · 22/05/2019 06:46

We're going to Alford next week, a much needed holiday after a year in hospital with a sick child - it's meant to be thunderstorms and rain all week SadSadSad

I'm going to take board games, wine, dvds and hope to god it cheers up enough for me to use the hot tub at least once!

maddening · 22/05/2019 06:53

Rhyl sun centre is closed. Rhyl has gone to the dogs 😢

UrsulaPandress · 22/05/2019 06:53

Treaddur Bay!!!! That's where our mates caravan is. Been going a few times a year for the past 14 years. Bloody love it.

Do you have facebook? There's a fab group called Images of Anglesey. Loads of great photos on there.

Seriously it's beautiful. And if the weather is grim in the morning it usually brightens up in the afternoon (with the tides) or drive to the other side of the Island.

Beaumaris. Church Bay. Penmon. Anglesey Sea Zoo. Pilli Palace.

And the castles on the mainland,

Jealous.

Mintychoc1 · 22/05/2019 06:57

The forecast could be completely different in 2 days.
I organised our village fair which was last Saturday. I was gutted when, on Thursday , it was forecast to rain all day.
When the day came, it was slightly cloudy at first, then sunny for the rest of the afternoon, and not a drop of rain.

Oblomov19 · 22/05/2019 06:59

Totally understand.
We have this. Been going down to our caravan in Dorset for both the beginning of May Bank Holiday and the end of May Bank Holiday week, for the last 10 years.

It's either boiling hot, or pisses it down with rain all week. Angry

UrsulaPandress · 22/05/2019 06:59

And the petrified forest on the beach just in front of the lifeboat station.

Mnbb · 22/05/2019 07:00

We are off to Wales too OP and I feel the same. I can cope with it being cold as long as it’s dry but rain just ruins everything. I’m still holding out for a change in the forecast but if it doesn’t hope. We will do wet cliff walks, rock pooling in wet suits and eat lots of cake and hot tea. Might even light the wood burner and play board games.

EleanorReally · 22/05/2019 07:00

It is Wales,
why do you think it is so green,
there will be sunshine in between the showers

EleanorReally · 22/05/2019 07:02

I love Wales, particularly in May

PentreBachCymraeg · 22/05/2019 07:03

Anglesey has it's own micro climate. I work in Snowdonia, tons of stuff to do 😉

chocolategivesmehives · 22/05/2019 07:05

We’re in a caravan on Anglesey at the moment. Weather forecast week before we came was a real mixed bag but it has actually been glorious, although cloudier today, so don’t worry too much.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 22/05/2019 07:05

Yep. Lately it's been lovely during the week at work and shite at the weekend.

I was camping in wales last weekend and it was freezing

Going to South Wales for the bank hol and it's also looking cold.

Eurekaohara · 22/05/2019 07:06

I am gutted too.. we have a respite holiday in Cornwall, my DD has been so poorly this year and it's going to bloody RAIN Angry
