As of today I am on antibiotics number 5 since mid February for a sore throat. I'm not talking just a scratchy, itchy sore throat, but one that goes into my ears, gives me swollen glands and difficultly swallowing, pain in moving my neck and sometimes a loss of/hoarse voice. I've now been referred urgently to ENT due to it not going away but Dr Google has me panicking a bit about what it might be as the C word is coming up frequently. Looking for your experiences of these symptoms and what it turned out to be and how long it took to eventually get better. Tia

It sounds like tonsillitis? If so your option is to have them out really.

@PBJtimedance thanks for your reply - I had my tonsils out when I was ten and there's no pus or bacteria in that area. Is it normally resistant to four lots of antibiotics?

Ha - I've had my tonsils out twice and have just been referred again as I still have some tonsil tissue (so I'm guessing it's grown back again)

Plus, I found out recently that we have two sets of tonsils:

  • palatine tonsils (which are the ones we all know about)
  • lingual tonsils which are more under the back of your tongue, right at the very back of your mouth.

So I've got a bit of palatine tonsil and (apparently) absolutely massive lingual tonsils, so it looks like I'll be having those out too..

So, it actually could still be your tonsils !

PBJtimedance · 21/05/2019 21:46

Yes the infections can be resistant to antibiotics and as said above the tissue can grow back. Would be worth them checking just in case.

p.s. if your tonsils have grown back, it's tonsil tissue but not in a tonsil shape iyswim, so mine was biopsied the second time I had them removed (just in case)

Wow that's really interesting re tonsils growing back! I hope that's what it is xx
