To be very worried

The situation with Iran and the US, I can’t stop worrying that it might all kick off causing WW3. Trump is unpredictable, can anyone please calm me down. I can’t see how it can resolve itself.

Hello, I understand how you feel, it seems very volatile, I just wonder whether it may calm down as the North Korea-US situation also seemed to calm down. I couldn’t sleep last night and started a thread in AIBU about being concerned about a US-Iran war, so I know exactly what you mean, both countries are run by ego-maniacs who are unlikely to back down and this would involve the entire Arab region. We live in frightening times don’t we

summerof68 · 20/05/2019 23:01

Yes it is frightening, i think it’s an even worse situation than N Korea. That was bad enough, i was a wreck when all that was going on. My DH tries to calm me down but it’s hard to not worry, even though I know it’s futile.

Following... I feel the same way summer! Sad

It’s difficult not to be affected by all that’s going on in the world, there’s so much hostility and power struggles and countries with more and more dangerous weapons, in all honesty i’m not bothered for my lifetime, am nearly 60! But I worry for my children and grandchildren, I can’t imagine their future the way things are now, there have always been crazy world leaders but we seem to have more of them now and terrorism has become such a threat, it’s a kind of hopeless and helpless feeling as there’s nothing the average person can do

Mummoomoocow · 20/05/2019 23:12

Just a quick reminder that the media blow everything out of proportion for profit and that trade wars now trump armed wars. The words of presidents are to rile up their citizens and not other presidents

Mummoomoocow · 20/05/2019 23:14

Also, you’re more frightened of something when you know less about it. Perhaps a little investigation into the history of Iran, Saudi Arabia etc?

summerof68 · 20/05/2019 23:50

Yes that’s probably true Mummoo, I think it’s the fact that Iran is an ally of Russia that scares me.

Read up on that too! There’s a lot of misinformation around that keeps people scared and profitable

Provincialbelle · 21/05/2019 00:42

It’s not great but I don’t think there will be actual conflict. Just a lot of blowhard brinkmanship

user764329056 · 21/05/2019 02:33

I think what concerns me most about this potential conflict is its magnitude because it would definitely be Islamic counties versus the Western world

user764329056 · 21/05/2019 02:34

countries obviously, not counties!

InspectorClouseauMNdivision · 21/05/2019 07:19

@Mummoomoocow absolutely agree!
Nothing sells better than fear which is often aplified by newspapers on purpose. The scarier the headline is, better the sales.
They will just run a their gobs, newsppaers will run how ww3 is coming and then it will all just disappear and new "conflict" will take over. 🤷‍♀️
Like always.

Only thing which might equally sell is misfortune of a big star.
