Stress Eating . How to stop?

I have eaten an enormous amount of junk over the last few days Blush

Most likely stress eating due to the following !:

I have awful PMS ; feeling very irritated / raging / tender and sensitive.

Currently awaiting biopsy results for a possible cancer .

We are meant to be flying to Italy on Wednesday but now we can’t go .

It was a last minute trip and after booking we ended up very distracted by biopsy etc and forgot about insurance , so we’re not covered for cancellation.

DC think we aren’t going because DH has to work , understandably they’re disappointed and moping .

Work is very busy and stressful.

The house is a mess .

It’s going to be a week before we get results . I can’t continue to eat like this Blush

What can I do to distract myself ?

But tbh nothing soothes me like food. How about making a deal with yourself to eat the crap until you get your results?

I do this all the time. I try to make a rule with myself...if I'm hungry I force myself to have something healthy. I wait half an hour or so. If I'm still desperate for the "bad" food I allow myself to have a bit of it. Usually I can control how much of it I eat because I'm not hungry anymore.
Or just generally more mindful eating. Am I actually hungry or just bored. I do think it's ok to have a treat though, it sounds like you are going through a lot.

Just eat the crap until you get your results. After that I find it's mainly about distraction. If I want to eat I put the kettle on instead.

I hope your results are clear. Why can't you go to Italy?

Ask yourself am I actually hungry or do I just want to change the way I feel?

If you are actually hungry eat whatever you want, but eat it slowly, savour it. Pay attention to how it feels in your mouth, chew it really slowly. Give it your full attention, put your phone down or switch the tv off.

You’ll be amazed how quickly you go off it.

I would go on the holiday for a start. Preparing for that will be a nice distraction.

I use self hypnosis when the comfort eating needs bringing back under control. I don't like having to undo the weight gain as I start to feel less stressed, it's not helpful.

I do this too. Comfort eat crap food even when I'm sick of it then feel disgusted with myself.

Not really a solution but sometimes I force myself to comfort eat only fruit and drink loads of water. Don't feel quite so gross physically or emotionally.
