I don’t work but would like to, clean up, make dinner blah blah blah but otherwise I’m just twiddling my thumbs and utterly bored.
Ds has just started going to a tutor a few hours a week after a million school exclusions and I’ve no idea what to do with myself

NameChangeNugget · 20/05/2019 16:52

Have you considered working maybe?

flower76 · 20/05/2019 16:54

Work, volunteer, masturbate ?

Notabedofroses · 20/05/2019 16:54

Find a job even part time? Courses to enhance your skills?
I go to gym, walk the dogs, gardening, I am doing a course once a week, I see friends when I am at home and not working.

I love my free time, feel blessed to have some time to do the things I am interested in, and peace and quiet. If it isn't working for you, change it.

WhiteDust · 20/05/2019 16:55

Why don't you work OP? It there a reason?

longearedbat · 20/05/2019 16:55

If you've got that much free time how about doing some further education? It could be something that is career based or something pleasurable like art for example.

fedup21 · 20/05/2019 16:56

I work, mainly.

NabooThatsWho · 20/05/2019 16:57

Of course you are bored. I’m sure you have plenty to offer. Work? Volunteer? Find a hobby?

Kenworthington · 20/05/2019 16:57

I go and visit my mum a few times a week and take her out and help her with admin stuff, shopping etc
I do a pottery class one morning a week
I read
I do gardening
I meet friends sometimes for coffee or a day out
All the cleaning, shopping, cooking, sorting out the kids (teenagers)
I love my life

Ravingstarfish · 20/05/2019 16:57

I’ve had to care for my son who has disabilities since he was excluded from 3 primary schools. He’s been at home 3 years, applied to 15 other schools with no luck and he spent a single morning with his tutor before she halved his hours so unfortunately I’ve not been able to get a job.
If I can find a special school place then I will look for work.

scaryteacher · 20/05/2019 17:01

Today, sod all, as I'm feeling like shit, having been up the last couple of nights with poorly animals, and I have a cold. I must have looked bloody awful, as ds cooked me breakfast!

The next few weeks, having a major purge as we are moving back to UK and I need to be under the allowed volume of stuff. We have loads of stuff we don't need/want, so I just have to gird my loins and stir my stumps and go through it all.

shortchanged69 · 20/05/2019 17:08

I have to work all day. I also have a child with disabilities. You should be able to get your son a special school place if you apply for an Education and Health Care plan through your council. There is lots of information on that on the IPSEA website.

outsho · 20/05/2019 17:09

Usually work but currently on mat leave. Day consists of the school run twice a day, trip to shops if needs be, baby swimming/sensory/rhyme time and cleaning.

Love spending time with baby DS but he still naps a fair amount so I spend too much time on my phone. Kinda looking forward to returning to work for that reason alone.

Abbazed · 20/05/2019 17:09

Look in ipsea model letter section xx

arethereanyleftatall · 20/05/2019 17:11

Today, I've worked for two hours, done a Pilates class, had lunch with friends, and looked after my primary aged dc before and after school.

SachaStark · 20/05/2019 17:11

Up at 5 for an hour's housework, then get ready. Go to work at 7, leave between 5 and 7pm, whenever I feel ready to. Get home, crash on the couch for half an hour, cook dinner and eat, watch a TV show, work for a couple more hours, bed.

Landfilly · 20/05/2019 17:12

Two DC in secondary and work 25 hours pw
So get up,make breakfast, empty dishwasher, put washing machine on, clear away breakfast stuff - then work

Get DC snack when they get in, chat about their day, take younger one to activities, water plants, weed beds, prep supper
Eat supper, tidy away supper, wash up, chat to DH
Empty washing machine/tumble dryer, do some ironing
Nag DC about homework, messy bedrooms, chase them into shower
Watch a bit of telly
Sleep
Then do it all again the next day

Stravapalava · 20/05/2019 17:12

I work in the evenings. Would that be an option?

I do an open university degree, clean, cook, life admin, shop, exercise, mooch round the shops, meet friends / family for coffee / lunch etc. Plus I'm around for all the school stuff.

buttery81 · 20/05/2019 17:15

That sounds like a long working day, @SachaStark! What do you do?

I wish I had the discipline to get up early and spend an hour cleaning the house, but it rarely happens unfortunately!

bodgersmash · 20/05/2019 17:15

See if you can find a hobby and turn it into a little business for yourself somehow?

Easier said than done.

Do you like to write? Craft?

Buy things from local charity shops and sell them on eBay or elsewhere for a profit? You can make some good money doing this if you have an eye for it, though it can be time consuming.

Future Learn run courses online on a wide range of things.

Kon Mari your house.

Grow plants.

Start a virtual PA service?

GeorgeTheBleeder · 20/05/2019 17:15

That must be tough OP.

(Amazing how many people on MN can’t bloody read ...)

I’m involved in ‘creative’ stuff - which mostly means 90% MN, 5% emailing colleagues, 5% 4.48 psychosis and panic.

PollyIndia · 20/05/2019 17:16

Looked after my 6 year old before school and after, walked the dog twice, taught 2 reformer Pilates classes, had a meeting about a new art/wellness collaboration, done a barre fit class and had a call about my new website design with the developer. Tonight am off to a gig for work .
I couldn't not work. I get a lot of life satisfaction from working. Though I'm lucky I can decide how and when I work... I can't see that I'll ever want to retire and not work at all.

RosaWaiting · 20/05/2019 17:19

George "I’m involved in ‘creative’ stuff - which mostly means 90% MN, 5% emailing colleagues, 5% 4.48 psychosis and panic."

wait, you get paid for this? How do I get in?

PollyIndia · 20/05/2019 17:19

Good luck with the special school place, that sounds so tough. My friend has a dd with autism, and her daughter got a place this year. She doesn't have time to work but she's super bright and I think needs to do something. She's done some course, keeps fit... and I'm hoping she might do a few hours for me sometime. There needs to be more flexible working.

BigusBumus · 20/05/2019 17:23

I drive my kids to school, come home walk the dogs. Put washing on, unpack dishwasher, clean the kitchen sides.

Then i work, from home, for about 4 hours ish. Go to the supermarket and then pick up the kids. Think about dinner and prepare it.

DH and i often go to the pub for a quick glass whilst boys do homework / revise (GCSEs at the moment).

Come home, cook, eat, put dishwasher on, pour a G&T, sit down watch TV till about 10.30pm.

Peanut91 · 20/05/2019 17:24

I am currently on mat leave. I do a baby group every day, housework, prep dinner and walk the dog for 1.5-2.5hrs. My days are always really busy. I would be so bored if I didnt fill my day
