I want to put together a playlist for my DD as she has a horrendously difficult time ahead of her (you can search my username to see why) I am hoping it will help her in some way...calm her. Take her mind off things.

The Protecting Veil, John Tavener (played at Princess Diana's funeral)

Third Symphony, the Symphony of Sorrowful Songs, by Górecki

NotMyPuppy · 19/05/2019 21:42

Also Bach’s Toccata and Fugue.
Lacrimosa from Mozart’s Requiem.

ItsInTheSpoon · 19/05/2019 21:51

Ravel’s piano concerto in G major, second movement (adagio assai) - it is utterly beautiful.

Anything Debussy but especially the Estampes.
Plus pretty much everything everyone else has said.

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 19/05/2019 21:51

May join Spotify just for this.

Concierto de Aranjuez by Joaquín Rodrigo, its been a favourite of mine since I was in my teens. There's also a version by The Planets using classical and modern instruments.

Chopin Nocturnes are very beautiful and relaxing.

I highly recommend them.

BaronessBomburst · 19/05/2019 22:17

I can't believe this thread got to 8 pages before someone said Bruch Violin Concerto!
Adagio for Strings and Allegro's Misère both have me sobbing.
And how about Mahler's 3rd? The 6th movement - 'What Love Tells Me' is so beautiful.

Clawdy · 19/05/2019 22:18

Another vote for Spiegel im Spiegel. So beautiful and peaceful.

alittleprivacy · 19/05/2019 22:20

Nothing has a more relaxing effect on me than Air on the G String.

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 19/05/2019 22:21

Shostakovitch's 2nd piano concerto, Adante movement. My mother chose that for her funeral. Kills me every time.

Helen Jane Long is an English female composer who writes beautiful music for piano and strings. I would love to see her in concert but haven't managed to yet. I wish she was better known as her music is just amazing.
Bells is my favourite piece of her music

redbedheadd · 19/05/2019 22:31

Hi - I've started a playlist. Need to go to bed now before my 4 month old DS wakes for a feed.

It's called Mumsnet Classical Favourites.

It should be public and collaborative if anyone wants to add to it!

Don't overlook modern composers. John Williams back catalogue is utterly amazing, particularly the ET theme music, Jurassic Park suites, Superman, in fact, most of his work is wonderful. Very uplifting.

Also, Hans Zimmerman's The Lion King soundtrack is fantastic, very moving.

Try also Alan Silvestri, the Forrest Gump theme music.
So Beautiful.

There is a lovely piece from Mary Shelley's Frankenstein called 'The Wedding Night' composed by Patrick Doyle, check this out, it is gorgeous.

redbedheadd · 19/05/2019 22:32

Oh and obviously if there are preferred versions of the music please add them too!

ghettihead · 19/05/2019 22:36
