Bought new garden table and chair a couple of weeks ago. Delivered on Weds. Then I go to the garden centre website today and they have a 20% offf sale on all garden furniture! We'd have saved £200 if we'd waited until this weekend to buy...

Gah!! Is there anything we can do now??

(We put it together yesterday and there is one bit that's faulty, so have asked the company to resupply the part, which is extra annoying.)

Contact them and tell them, I know people who have and have been refunded the difference

HBStowe · 19/05/2019 09:18

Yeah, worth asking - some places will refund the difference if you are nice about it!

thegreatcrestednewt · 19/05/2019 09:20

It's worth doing, then! OK, thanks.

I would give it a go.

Something similar happened to me for Valentine's Day. I'd done a large order and the next day had an email where if you spend X amount you get loads of free stuff.
I emailed asking if they could just add it to the order as i had receipts etc. They said no :/ I refuse to buy from them again.

dudsville · 19/05/2019 09:23

By the reduced cost one and return the higher priced one!

chipsandgin · 19/05/2019 09:26

Agree with pp - but the reduced price one then return the goods with the higher priced receipt (in a big store not only will the staff not care - but if you buy it, chuck it in the boot of the car, go for a coffee, then stroll back in to do the return with your first receipt they probably won’t even notice!)

thegreatcrestednewt · 19/05/2019 09:44

But we have put the table together! And the four boxes together need a van to transport them - it's not as simple as 'return it and buy the new one'!

You were happy with the price when you bought it.

You presumably wouldn’t be offering to pay the difference if the price had gone up. Hmm

thegreatcrestednewt · 19/05/2019 09:51

Well, we'd agonised over buying it for years and always put it off because garden funiture is so expensive, actually. And then we bought a fairly expensive set as we thought it would be good quality.

And then to find one piece faulty - very annoying. And then to find it's in the sale - rubbing salt into the wounds. Can't you understand that?

i work at a garden centre and we often have 20% off promotions, this happens a lot. if you have got your receipt it is worth ringing and asking if they can do anything- we would refund the difference provided you had your receipt

BigRedLondonBus · 19/05/2019 09:58

It’s not as simple as return the other one and buy the new one, if op had saved up then she may not have the money to buy the new one until she has been refunded on the old one which can take a long time for them to arrange it to be sent back and refund issued then waiting for the refund to appear in her account. By that time the promotion could have ended.

CareBear50 · 19/05/2019 10:06

Tell them you want refund as it's faulty. Then buy new one at reduced cost??

caughtinanet · 19/05/2019 10:08

Is it a large chain type garden centre or a one off one? You might have a chance with a smaller one but nothing to lose with either. You should definitely ask.

thegreatcrestednewt · 19/05/2019 10:47

Large chain type...

I have my receipt...

This happened to me OP with a large kitchen appliance I had procrastinated over for months. I bought it, had it delivered 4 days later, then looked on the website the very day it had been delivered and there it was £140 cheaper. I was gutted but called them up and they refunded the difference. I was so grateful. But if I hadn't looked on the website (there was a piece I couldn't see how to fit) I would have been none the wiser.

isupposeitsverynice · 20/05/2019 18:39

did you phone them op? i think you’ll get the difference refunded, especially given the faulty part (i missed that bit on first reading)

thegreatcrestednewt · 22/05/2019 07:11

Update: I rang them yesterday and they are on the case. They'll contact the company that supplies the tables and find out if they can supply only the faulty part; and they also said they would be able to 'do something' about the 20% off...

Cariadne · 22/05/2019 07:12

Good news!

awalkintheparka · 22/05/2019 07:13

Yay! I was going to say due to the faulty part then it's unusable until the 20% off came in so you would like them to honour it.

Jimdandy · 22/05/2019 08:08

Order it again with the discount, then return it using the full price receipt

thegreatcrestednewt · 22/05/2019 10:34

Jimdandy - did you miss the bit where I said there are four huge boxes and I don't want to have to unassemble the table and repack it and all the chairs??
