AIBU to want to live in Bayeux

That's it really. I just want to live there, and am dreaming about buying a home there to retire to. I speak French. Is that silly?

Its really nice there

Go for it

PositiveVibez · 15/05/2019 20:28

Son of a gun. You'll have big fun in Bayeux.

I'll get me coat 🏃‍♀️

DizzyPigeon · 15/05/2019 20:28

It's eminently more reasonable than my desire to sell everything and live in a van, touring around.

I've definitely hit mid-life crisis point... Are you maybe at a similar stage in life?

But ask yourself - would you regret not giving it a go more than trying it if it didn't work out?

TheGrapefulDread · 15/05/2019 20:38

All part of life’s rich tapestry. J’aller chercher mon manteau.

DantesInferno · 15/05/2019 20:39

Theres a funky roundabout with knights on horses (made of plants)
The tapestry, what else do you need?

LEDadjacent · 15/05/2019 20:41

Bayeux is lovely. Do it.

Not unreasonable, but bear in mind that the French are quite a weird nation in their own way and state institutions at times behave with a barefaced dishonesty that certainly wasn’t the case when I left the UK 15 years ago.

junebirthdaygirl · 15/05/2019 20:45

Bayeux is beautiful. I just loved it when we visited. If you have always planned to move to France if would be an ideal spot to settle in.

ketchuponpizza · 15/05/2019 20:47

@makingmammaries really? Do you live in France now? Have never lived in France but holiday there a lot.

Tbh, I would wait until we have some idea what, if anything, is happening with Brexit. Otherwise you might suddenly find yourself up the creek.

ketchuponpizza · 15/05/2019 20:50

This is true, re: Brexit. But I can't help thinking it would be better to be there when it happens rather than attempting to move afterwards?

There's a life-sized replica of the tapestry in Reading, which is also quite a nice place to live and you already speak English.

maslinpan · 15/05/2019 20:53

It's a major tourist destination, would that be quite annoying? I live in a big tourist town in the UK and my patience can wear pretty thin, particularly in the summer.

DizzyPigeon · 15/05/2019 20:54

I agree, better to go before Brexit, this way you have rights when you get there which they will hopefully honor afterwards.

DizzyPigeon · 15/05/2019 20:55

you already speak English

Op also already speaks French. It's right there in the op.

FunnysInLaJardin · 15/05/2019 20:56

TheGrapeful Grin hilarious.

I wouldn't move to France tbh. We live in Jersey and have friends in France and the bureaucracy can be crippling. Also not sure about wages/ living standards. However I have not lived in the UK for 20 years and so see the pull, especially if your DC are bilingual.

Is one of you French then? One of my oldest friends lives in Avignon with her French husband and I think that it helps if one of you understand the culture etc

DizzyPigeon · 15/05/2019 20:57

But yabu, in fact vvvvvvu, if you put ketchup on pizza.

ketchuponpizza · 15/05/2019 21:03

@DizzyPigeon dont knock it until you have tried it!!! It's amazing !

We currently live in a French speaking area but I am originally from a student and tourist popular (small) city in the UK.

I love Bayeux! Do it!

(Can we come and stay?)

PalamaLama · 15/05/2019 21:18

Yes to the van thing :-)

ketchuponpizza · 15/05/2019 21:29

@Littlecaf yes! If you help dig the gardens
