To be so upset by this?

Briefly saw DM headline as I was scrolling through news on the train which said,
“Matador wipes tear away from Bull’s eye before he kills it”.

Feel sick. I know bullfighting goes on and it’s bloody horrible so why is this so upsetting?!!

OP posts:
NoSauce · 15/05/2019 17:22

You think the bull was crying because he knew he was going to be killed?

RandomAmanda · 15/05/2019 17:26

Yanbu op

To be so upset by this?
JuniFora · 15/05/2019 17:27

Are you a vegetarian? Slaughterhouses are far worse. You are unreasonable if you don't recognise how what goes on your plate got there.

Perso25 · 15/05/2019 17:29

That picture makes me feel sick !! Sad

Hoppinggreen · 15/05/2019 17:32

It’s horrible but given how these bulls are “raised” I very much doubt the bull felt any affection for its owner or ran to him for help
Bullfighting is awful and I wish it would be banned but this sort of overly dramatic bollocks is unhelpful and upsetting

NannyRed · 15/05/2019 17:32

Call me cynical but it’s probably fake anyway.
I do take it you’re a committed vegetarian.

userabcname · 15/05/2019 17:33

Yanbu. I used to think those matadors were idiots and that essentially they just ran around a ring with a bull. I had no idea the poor creatures are tortured and blinded and god knows what else before the "fights". I think it's horrifying and I don't understand why it's still allowed. It's very upsetting.

snowdrop6 · 15/05/2019 17:40

That upset me to.i don’t understand why it’s legal.i suppose some countries are still very backward

CuriousaboutSamphire · 15/05/2019 17:43

Mmm! That picture has the hallmarks of PETA, or similar, about it!

Oh! Prado! And it isn't what it says it is. It's most likely an activist rushingin to get a publicity pictur, hence the hand on his shoulders. The bull's owner wouldn't be dressed like that, or at the ring side!

Given the absolute pathos of that picture, why tarnish it with an overly sentimental, easily disprovable lie?

Oh yeah, silly me, it's the PETA effect!

Ginger1982 · 15/05/2019 17:43

Surely you can eat meat and yet be upset by something like bull fighting?

supersop60 · 15/05/2019 17:50

I agree ginger
It's the bloodlust in humans that upsets me - I feel the same about hunting, whether it's foxes, deer, hares or 'safari animals.'

CuriousaboutSamphire · 15/05/2019 17:50

Who has said they aren't?

It is a barbaric sport. It is a national sport in many countries. It isn't 200 years since simlair was banned here, cockfighting fully outlawed in the 1950s. And we still have such shit, and worse, going on here, illegally!

But I still eat meat!

NoSauce · 15/05/2019 17:51

Of course it’s barbaric but the bull isn’t crying.

Summerorjustmaybe · 15/05/2019 17:58

News article says he wiped blood away...

Hoppinggreen · 15/05/2019 18:03

I don’t agree that some countries are “backwards”
Bullfighting is horrible and I wish it would be banned, a,OMG with bull running BUT it is a huge part of Spanish ( and Mexican to a certain extent) history and culture and has been for possibly 2000 years so it is unlikely to be banned anytime soon
It’s big business as well and politically sensitive

girlwithadragontattoo · 15/05/2019 18:06

It's awful!!!! I live in Portugal and they televise it here sometimes Angry

FabulouslyGlamourosFerret · 15/05/2019 18:08

Ricky Gervais has it right 'dirty sequinned cunt' was I think his reaction to it.

And fuck off with the 'you can only object if you're a vegan' bollocks, getting enjoyment from torturing an animal is fucked up. And Yes, the meat industry is shit ... but meat eaters don't get their rocks off on watching chickens being tortured over a prolonged period in front of a baying crowd.

FabulouslyGlamourosFerret · 15/05/2019 18:09

@Hoppinggreen

You could use the same argument for FGM.

HBStowe · 15/05/2019 18:11

I do take it you’re a committed vegetarian.

I am a committed vegetarian and I still think this is a bullshit comment. I don’t agree with eating meat but I don’t think it’s as barbaric as bull fighting.

Rockmysocks · 15/05/2019 18:19

I saw the same headline but didn't read further or watch the video. The bull isn't crying but the matador is creating a 'comedic' effect for the entertainment of the crowd.

I find the barbaric death and mocking it for losing the fight is sickening enough without the matador's sick twist.

Hoppinggreen · 15/05/2019 18:53

fabulously it’s not my argument I was just saying that people who dont understand why it’s still allowed need to first understand how important it still is in some quarters and how invested a lot of the people who make the laws are in bullfighting ( in several senses of the word)
And much as I loathe torturing animals to death for sport I don’t really compare it to FGM though

pickletickled · 15/05/2019 19:06

I am not a vegetarianHmm but that sickens me.
The 'sport' or any other torturing of animals for fucking fun is barbaric and beyond cruel.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 16/05/2019 08:33

the fight is sickening enough without the matador's sick twist. As far as I can find out the man is an animal rights activist. The picture was first published/provided by Prado, large activist organisation in Spain.

Look at his shoulders. At least 2 people are trying to pull him back.

Maybe someone in Spain, 3 or 4 years ago (when it was first published), can add more detail!

EBearhug · 16/05/2019 08:36

Slaughterhouses are far worse.

How are slaughterhouses worse than bullfighting?
