To ask how I get around this?

I am in a job I hate.

I am not a confrontational person and have anxiety about being put in a confrontational situation. My boss is also a friend who can sometimes be quite, overbearing, let's say.

I have seen an advertisement for a job at the local Council. Both my best friend and cousin work for the same Council and have had nothing but positive things to say about the place. I have applied for the job. The job on offer sounds perfect for me and I'm really excited about the prospect of maybe being offered the role.

On further consideration and having another skim over the job description it advises that the team assessments and individual interviews will take place on the same day, early June. I have asked my cousin about this and she said the whole thing takes about 2.5 hours.

Problem is, in my current job, there are a total of 3 people (including me) that work in the office. This is one of the reasons I hate it so much. On the particular day that the assessments/interviews are taking place, my boss is on holiday and the other lady is also off for a few days. So basically I am in the office on my own for the whole day (and the following day).

Some of my tasks during the day, at certain times in the day, require me to be in contact with my boss, whilst she is out of the country. Basically, she will be waiting, at certain times in the day, to hear from me with significant information.

How the HELL am I supposed to be able to attend the assessments/interviews that day? I suppose I can't, can I? It's just tough shit, isn't it? There's no way the Council is going to change the date just to suit me?!

FFS!

I wouldn't normally recommend it, but I'd go sick that day. There's not much they can do if they're out of the country is there?

Can you call the council and ask if they could do yours the day before/after?

At the very least it will reflect well on you that you aren't willing to let your team down.

I'd ring in with a migraine

MummyStruggles · 15/05/2019 14:34

cheeseypuff It is an option but my boss/friend would be majorly pissed off with me if I did this, especially whilst there's no one else in!

HintOfRaspberry I've just emailed them to ask, thanks for the suggestion!
