To be freaking out about bed bugs

So my daughter came home from nursery with what I thought was a small scratch on her face. I'm pretty sure it wasn't there in the morning when I dropped her off. When I bathed her I noticed it looked more like bumps/bites/spots.....in a line of three. I googled bites in a line of 3 and it came up with bed bugs and I'm horrified. I've frantically checked the mattress for signs and found the occasional tiny black bit but no other signs...aibu to jump to the conclusion it's bed bugs? How do I know and if it is what the hell do I do?

If it is you call pest control. It's a bit of a jump to assume it's bedbugs just from those spots though. What where the black marks on her sheet like?

EmeraldShamrock · 14/05/2019 21:20

Yes, I had similar hives, 3 in a row on my elbow, and hip last week. I used to be ate alive as a DC, You can get some supplement to stop it.

You can't tell from the bites, they're too variable.

Very useful info here:

We co sleep and I don't have any bites, they look like this but I have a black sheet on my bed so it could just be from that

It’s hard to see the scale, but I’ve had bed bugs twice (living abroad in a developing country, though obviously you can get them anywhere, but they are particularly prevalent there). Those do not look anything like bed bug bites to me. Often they show up as pretty sizeable welts, in my experience, like 20p piece size. They are also intensely itchy and it would be unusual to get them on the face. They usually bite the torso/legs, the boys that are under cover and warm during the night. That could just be a random bug bite(s) or hives or something else bumpy and itchy. My ds got itchy bumps on his face ahead of a viral infection once.

@mindutopia thank you 😊 that has put my mind at rest a bit.....the bumps are small more like pimple size, I guess a google diagnosis is never a good thing to rely on

I honestly wouldn’t jump to that conclusion. I’ve had bedbugs - woke up every morning with bites, was going to bed with every little bit of skin covered and still being bitten, it’s unmistakable. And we only had about 5 of the blighters.

You’ll find evidence of blood on mattress and round headboard. Stopped using the phrase don’t let the bed bugs bite after that

Bed bugs are almost as big as ladybirds- your pic looks much smaller tho could be scale

Picture isn't massively clear but the black marks don't look like bed bug faeces. In my experience they literally look like someone has been dotting your sheet with a fineliner. As other have said, it would also be very unusual to only get three bites on your face and for there to be no blood spots. So it really doesn't sound like bedbugs! :) like a PP, we didn't have a large infestation (pest control man only ever found one nymph and I spotted one myself) but I was waking up with god knows how many new bites each morning. Little fuckers.
