Blackpool

For a holiday I want at least late 30degrees. The hotter the better.
Somewhere I can eat out, vegetarian with several food related allergies. Somewhere that doesn’t rely on alcohol to make it feel great and somewhere where I can do things that I can’t do at home.
Plus has a great 5 star hotel or lovely Airbnb with private pool.
And is a “safe” country

Hk in October. Job done.

I agree with Monestasi - Beirut is gorgeous as is the rest of Lebanon. Stunning country, gorgeous weather, amazing history and the best food in the world.

Fraxion · 15/05/2019 15:11

I am left wondering if there is a place where everyone agrees is wonderful.

No, you can't please everyone. People rave about Barbados, we've been and we won't be back. The only destination we feel this way.

ThatssomebadhatHarry · 15/05/2019 15:14

Dubai. Plastic surgery version of paradise built by slave labour. Vile country.

PuppyMonkey · 15/05/2019 15:16

The beach.

This thread is so depressing.

I understand everyone has different preferences about how to spend their hard-earned holiday money. But to rule out places even if someone paid for your holiday?

I had NO idea so many people would not consider Australia because of ...spiders. Or put a blanket 'no' on Africa, Asia - or Japan for example. I mean Tokyo is crowded yes but Japan has so many other exceptionally peaceful and beautiful places to offer. How do you know if you never went there and saw for yourself?

I'm sorry to say this but it all sounds so small-minded, to never consider going out of your comfort zone. I went to Marrakesh and did not enjoy the harassment or the chaotic markets, but what it did was open my eyes to a part of the world I had never visited. The architecture was amazing and left a deep impression. I can't say I'd go back again but I'm happy to have been.

Similarly, I don't like the idea of Dubai but I won't say I'd never go there, I'm curious if a visit there would confirm my beliefs about it.

Horses for courses, I guess.

I love holidays in Beirut - an amazing place with lovely people, food and things to see and do. What have people disliked about their holidays there?

Outsomnia · 15/05/2019 16:40

Everyone has different tastes and circumstances, so what one person will not like, another will love.

For me the following are off the menu, and I have experienced them over time just to say!

Cruises.
AI
Package hols
Flights more than three hours.

No particular country has annoyed me and I’ve been all over, its an experience.

Just to say, I cannot understand going long haul to a beach destination like Maldives or Caribbean. You can get beaches in Europe. But each to their own.

F1zzB1zz · 15/05/2019 16:42

Lucky you Festher that you have money and time to waste going on holidays you have little desire to see for a variety of reasons.

Butterflyone1 · 15/05/2019 17:29

These comments have made me laugh. I've been to most of the places people never want to visit (except for Blackpool lol).

The only places I wouldn't visit currently (maybe its better in the future) are:

Syria/Iran/Iraq (those surrounding countries).

TheGoogleMum · 15/05/2019 17:42

Hmm I think there's a lot of places I probably wouldn't other to save to go to but for a free trip would go! I think I wouldn't even for free go to anywhere with a war currently going on. Russia really doesn't appeal to me. I'm not bothered about Australia but would go on a free trip! I have a friend who loves south Africa but I would be nervous about safety... If I felt brave enough I know there is lots to enjoy there though

YouBumder · 15/05/2019 18:35

I’d love to visit Lebanon. It looks amazing and the food looks awesome

Wimbledonwomble · 15/05/2019 18:46

I love holidays in Beirut - an amazing place with lovely people, food and things to see and do.

I've changed my mind - I want to go there now!

mbosnz · 15/05/2019 19:06

I'm from South Island NZ. I struggle to understand why some people from the UK find it 'backwards'. Scotland I cannot comment upon as a comparison, not having been to Scotland - but if it's like NZ I gotta go there!

But my family comes from what has become very much a tourist destination. My mother scolds me if I laud NZ to the skies, telling me for goodness sakes, we DON'T need any more tourists, we're heaving, lol.

So yes, it's a horrible place. DON'T go there. Yuk. Yuk, yuk, yuk. . .

LakieLady · 15/05/2019 19:19

As for Cornwall not catering for veggies - cheese and onion oggies are veggie, and much nicer than the meat ones. There are good Indian restaurants as well who do veggie food, and many first class restaurants who offer vegetarian courses as well.

We go to Cornwall a lot, and the pubs seem to offer at least a couple of vegetarian options, often more. Even a farm shop cafe that we sometimes stop at has a good veggie range, including a veggie breakfast.

We've had some fantastic meals, but we keep our favourite places a closely guarded secret as we don't want them getting too popular.

We've had some fantastic meals in Cornwall too.

LakieLady · 15/05/2019 19:34

Michael Mcintyre and Gordon Ramsey are always in Dubai

Well, that's 2 good reasons not to go there!

vampirethriller · 15/05/2019 19:35

I'm very, very phobic of spiders. I've had to stay with a friend when there's been large ones in my house. I can't look at pictures. So a holiday in a country known to have huge spiders would be wasted on me because I would be afraid the whole time. I know that's not logical but phobias aren't logical.

lovemeorleaveme · 15/05/2019 19:41

Egypt
Dubai
South Africa
Turkey
Israel

LakieLady · 15/05/2019 19:42

Haha my mil drives there for a swim !

My brother lives there, the poor sod.

Pilgit · 15/05/2019 19:43

Butlins. Been once. Never again. Total rip off and seemed to be designed to encourage gambling. Pool never bloody open. Hated the place.

Anywhere it is illegal to be gay.

Middle East

LakieLady · 15/05/2019 19:44

I actually want to visit Jaywick now to see what all the fuss is about...

Save yourself the bother. Look at it on google streetview, you'll soon see why it's not an ideal holiday destination.

Dljlr · 15/05/2019 19:45

Australia
Japan
Been to both, hated both. Also not a fan of Wales.

Wouldn't fancy:
Dubai
India
Russia
N or S Korea

Dljlr · 15/05/2019 19:46

Oh, and Lego Land Windsor. NEVER AGAIN

JudyDenchsBloomers · 15/05/2019 20:06

I'm going to Beirut tomorrow Smile
