Some truly awful ignorance on this thread.

Persimmonn · 14/05/2019 16:59

This thread is just a cover for racists and xenophobics. People won’t visit Muslim countries full stop? I’m reporting the thread.

ddl1 · 14/05/2019 17:03

'People won’t visit Muslim countries full stop?'

I would visit a Muslim country; I probably wouldn't visit one with a powerful Islamist government. Just as I probably wouldn't visit one with a powerful Christian Right government.

Persimmonn · 14/05/2019 17:04

So which country would you visit?

MissPollyHadADolly19 · 14/05/2019 17:05

@IABUQueen couldn't agree more. The ignorance is laughable.
Dubai is mentioned alot and that is by far the most unislamic country in the UAE. Everything about it goes against Islam.
As for second class to men.. you'll find in places like Egypt where Christians and Muslims coexist, the only thing they practice differently one community pray in a mosque and another in a church.
It boils down to culture not religion and FYI, If you spend a day in my house and you'll see who runs the roost Grin

Some parts of Ibiza are stunning

BasilTheGreat · 14/05/2019 17:11

I don’t have to like the views of this religion and am free not to go there. I will not gov to a country where I will be discriminated against because I’m a woman.

Persimmonn · 14/05/2019 17:14

Wtf. Have you heard what’s happening in America atm with abortion in Georgia? Does that sound like women are being held on a pedestal?! How do you know you Will be discriminated against for being a woman in a Muslim country? Youre being ridiculous.

MissPollyHadADolly19 · 14/05/2019 17:15

@Basil what makes you think you'll be discriminated against?

theDudesmummy · 14/05/2019 17:16

I have not RTFT but never ever go to the Democratic Republic of Congo, believe me. I have travelled very widely and that is absolutely the only place I have been I can say I would never set foot in again.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 14/05/2019 17:16

Except not all Muslim countries have that “regime” you refer to.

I didn’t say they did 🙄

SecretWitch · 14/05/2019 17:23

I would not visit any country hostile to Jews.

Persimmonn · 14/05/2019 17:25

That’s interesting, which countries are hostile to Jews then? Do you mean Israel? Or just Jews?

DerrenBrownings · 14/05/2019 17:26

@Witchesglove page 1 listed 4 places. All of which are my favourite and regular travel destinations 😂 hilarious.

MondeoFan · 14/05/2019 17:26

Pontins
Romania
Euro Disney
Turkey
Skegness

BasilTheGreat · 14/05/2019 17:27

@MissPollyHadADolly19
For example wearing a headscarf, but in general its just a horrible feeling of being looked down at . I grew up with people of this religion who had this view and it’s never left me. I had Kurdish female friends that was horrible discriminated against because of their sex.

MissPollyHadADolly19 · 14/05/2019 17:32

@Basil but you wouldnt be made to wear one, unless you were to visit a mosque which would be the same as wearing modest clothing to church.
I've been to islamic countries both before converting and after - no difference in treatment apart from after when out with DH if dining at a restaurant the staff asked if we would like to be in the family area (away from the drunk people)

You're getting extremely confused with culture and religion in terms of the treatment of women in Kurdistan. Unfortunately, until people do real research it's a common mistake to make.

MissPollyHadADolly19 · 14/05/2019 17:35

Infact I felt so degraded when I went Magaluf at the age of 14, grown men trying to hit on me and touching me inappropriately, I think I'd of rather spent a week in Afghanistan - atleast I would be respected there and not molested!

CherryPavlova · 14/05/2019 17:36

I can honestly say that I have never experienced anything but the utmost courtesy and respect when travelling alone in the UAE, Oman, Qatar and Bahrain. Fast tracked through the airport by charming and truly respectful immigration staff, asked if I wanted a female flight attendant, guided towards a female taxi where I was driven by a female driver (not obligatory but they asked if I would prefer a woman driver).

I thought it might be about being middle aged and reasonably well covered up so to be respectful of their culture but my then 17 year old daughter travelling alone was also treated with courtesy and respect. Airport staff in both Bahrain and Doha were very kindly attentive and ensured she was guided safely through the plane transfer and then cared for in Doha when she realised the driver hadn’t arrived and she had no telephone.

There are undoubtedly human rights issues but they occur in most nations. It’s not just the Arab nations who can be criticised for harsh treatment of women and foreign workers.
The Maldives very pretty shabby in terms of human rights.
Many African countries are unsafe for women and have significant corruption.
China executes more people than any other country.
America is pretty poor on human rights.
Why are Arab nations singled out?

CherryPavlova · 14/05/2019 17:37

Romania is beautiful.

Sweetpea55 · 14/05/2019 17:38

Agree about the Gulf States.
Majorca Beniform and Magaluf
Thailand Australia India and Rhyl.

BasilTheGreat · 14/05/2019 17:39

@MissPolly I appreciate your kind answer. I however don’t think you can separate religion and culture, they are intertwined. You would need a completely separation of the state and the religion and as far as I know no such country where Islam is the predominant religion exists.

humdrum21 · 14/05/2019 17:39

Las Vegas, Florida theme parks, Dubai
