To be fair, there are parts of London that are super grey too - the North Circular springs to mind.

pencilpot99 · 14/05/2019 13:56

@BlackcurrantJamontoast I'm going for a long weekend in Beirut in June, I can't wait Grin

midsomermurderess · 14/05/2019 13:57

Dubai immediatey springs to mind. And Florida if it was only for the theme parks.

*I'm as travel happy as they come, but I hate arguments like this.

The world is full of beautiful places, and if someone doesn't get a good 'vibe' off somewhere, or just doesn't like that particular culture for ANY reason they have the whole rest of the blooming planet to enjoy. There's nothing wrong with not finding places beautiful or interesting, or finding them beautiful, but not beautiful enough to overcome the things they don't like.*

Ok you hate me asking why people are writing off whole large countries, but you’re basically saying a whole country gives off the same vibe? Or you don’t find a whole country beautiful? So Paris, Provence, Central lakes, Brittany, northern cities and the Alps ALL have the same vibe and ALL have no beauty to you? Same in Spain? I just find that a very sweeping statement, which is what I was originally questioning. I agree the world is full of amazing places to explore, I don’t agree you can write off whole countries as “not beautiful” or a “bad vibe”

I can understand why people are put off of Scotland due to the weather. Me and DH keep saying about going there but we are lucky if we can afford one holiday a year so want at least halfway decent weather when we do go away.

We went to Glasgow for 4 days and it absolutely poured the whole time. Not just a bit of rain but torrential rain. Plus it was so windy there was no way you could use an umbrella. It has put me off of ever going back. Plus the useless rude taxi drivers that didn't seem to know where anything was.

I don't want scorching sun every day but neither do I want rain or cold every day.

My sister and husband went to some of the Scottish Islands last year in August. You know when we had that scorching summer. They didn't have good weather

Debfronut · 14/05/2019 14:08

I won't go to Africa, Asia or any country with poor woman/human rights issues. I also look at how they treat animals generally. Love Scotland but I wish it was warmer.

kaytee87 · 14/05/2019 14:11

But don’t you find the architecture austere and grey?

No, I think a lot of it's really beautiful and some of it isn't.

Jaywick is a good shout.

kaytee87 · 14/05/2019 14:12

@mydogisthebest obviously if you want guaranteed nice weather then you shouldn't holiday in the U.K. at all tbh. Especially if you can only have one holiday a year.

Ironfloor269 · 14/05/2019 14:15

Australia yes, Melbourne and Sydney a definite no no.
Any of the Gulf states
Sri Lanka

StillCoughingandLaughing · 14/05/2019 14:23

Dubai. I always see celebs who could afford to go anywhere just return there again and again. Why!

I’m guessing because TOWIE/MIC types get paid a fortune to Instagram endless pics of the resorts.

Orangecake123 · 14/05/2019 14:25

Dubai, Romania, Turkey. Morocco.

NameChangeNugget · 14/05/2019 14:31

Struggling to see the greyness or austerity in this building (the one in the previous Glasgow picture). I do however agree that few places are more depressing in the rain than Aberdeen.

woodcutbirds · 14/05/2019 14:39

Why Crete NameChange? It's absolutely beautiful. Samaria gorge, crystal blue seas and gorgeous food.

purplereindeer · 14/05/2019 14:39

Japan, which I think is unusual as lots of people have it as a dream holiday.

However, DP has been to Japan six or so times and has a tendency to bore on about it, which has rather put me off. Also, crowds. I bloody hate crowds and busy places, not sure why I'd want to go somewhere expensive, crowded and busy!

CathyorClaire · 14/05/2019 14:39

Turkey
Tunisia
Morocco
The longest flight I can stomach is 2.5 hours so any long haul destination is out however potentially fascinating.
Any holiday involving camping cruising or skiing.

Happy to stay within European bounds basically.

chemenger · 14/05/2019 14:40

Personally I don’t fancy very hot places, like the gulf states or beach holidays in general. I’ve been to Las Vegas and would have to be paid to go back.

Drogosnextwife · 14/05/2019 14:44

Anywhere that's classed as a party destination for young people (I'm only 29)
I know these are only certain parts of the country but I still don't want to go.
Anywhere that you have to be careful about what you wear.

lazylinguist · 14/05/2019 14:47

Gulf states
Big resorts anywhere
Holiday camp places
Big campsites with entertainment etc
Disney etc
Las Vegas

Basically I'm only interested in self-catering/camping in lovely countryside, or cultural city breaks. And only in places where I'm not likely to be treated badly for being a woman, or arrested for something ridiculous.

Honeybee85 · 14/05/2019 14:49

Amsterdam : I hate it. Dirty, too crowded, bad quality of food.
France (except Paris): no offense to any French people here, but my experience with the French outside their capital is rather unpleasant.

Would love to go to:
Back to South Africa, it was great!
Would love to go back to Costa Rica as well.
Fiji
Maledives
Colombia
Bali
Zanzibar

chemenger · 14/05/2019 14:58

Anywhere with evening entertainment on site.
