Dubai. I always see celebs who could afford to go anywhere just return there again and again. Why! You literally have the world at your feet.

LadyRannaldini · 14/05/2019 12:53

Are you implying that people that do have preferences are being 'snobby'?

Reading some of the predictable lists I would say that snobbery certainly plays a role in choices, one can almost hear 'dahling, not naice'.

Mrsjayy · 14/05/2019 12:57

A lot of "celebs "are paid to be seen in Dubai whether it be callum best partying or somebody from towie going on adventures I have a friend and her husband who live/work there and were telling me they appear at functions it is the same for US celebs Kim K was always there.

Fraxion · 14/05/2019 12:57

How many people have actually exprienced these places they list and how many are going off what they're simply read or heard?

Exactly. I live in 'grim' Scotland and can honestly say we have had the most amazing road trips, even in the winter months. The Hebrides are spectacular. We are totally in awe of the fantastic scenery, especially in the western highlands.

Mrsjayy · 14/05/2019 12:59

Michael Mcintyre and Gordon Ramsey are always in Dubai seperately not together obvs 😁

Gth1234 · 14/05/2019 12:59

@mallysally
Ibiza was selected as an example. It's like saying Spain in general.
Now, I wouldn't choose San Antonio, as an example, but there are
lots of gentle laid back places in Ibiza, which would suit me.

Personally, I am a bit like Dr Jonson, regarding most places, but in his case, the Giant's Causeway "Worth seeing, but not worth going to see".

I watched Simon Reeve's fascinating program on Turkey at the weekend. Not my cup of tea in general, but I imagine parts of it would suit many.

ToffeePennie · 14/05/2019 13:02

Malaysia, any state other than Florida or California, anywhere in Asia, anywhere in Africa, anywhere in the Middle East, I’m not a fan of travel I don’t think.
I’ll stick to Europe and the U.K. I think.

mojitoclock · 14/05/2019 13:09

Apologies, I have been to the Highlands and sure it is stunning on the right day, but I don’t like the weather or the endless slate grey buildings. I find the architecture quite austere and combined with the wind and cold, it’s not my thing. Plus the sea is slate grey too and the overall impact is that I get very depressed up there. It’s feels too damp and grey. I’m sure there’s nice parts, but for that kind of distance, I’d rather be in the South of France.

DonkeyHohtay · 14/05/2019 13:19

I always think people on these threads sound so ignorant.

Totally agree.

It's one thing to say that you're not a fan of city breaks so wouldn't go to Madrid, Paris or Berlin. Or that you don't like lying on a beach, so wouldn't enjoy the Maldives or the Seychelles. That's fair comment.

But making blanket sweeping statements about not liking Spain based on a weekend in Benidorm does just show that you're ignorant about the country as a whole. Or saying that Scotland is just booze and shopping. (Or cold, it's 24C here today and parents were slopping the factor 50 on their kids at sports day this morning). Or indeed writing off "Africa" as if it were a small town in Kent.

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 14/05/2019 13:21

I think Western Australia is ok if you don't like spiders. Or better, anyway. Not as many cockroaches, either.

That’s because the salties have eaten them all ...

kaytee87 · 14/05/2019 13:25

Scotland being 'grim' has really cracked me up. We have arguably some of the best scenery in the world, Great night life and shopping in Glasgow, Edinburgh is a beautifully historic city, we have some great theatres, lovely sandy beaches, some amazing 5 star hotels, resorts and hydros, golf courses, spas. I could go on forever.

kaytee87 · 14/05/2019 13:26

My current view on my lunch break.

Places you would never want to go on Hoilday
DonkeyHohtay · 14/05/2019 13:29

Nothing better than Kelvingrove park on a warm, sunny day Kaytee.

Hope you've got your thermals on though as it's freezing and there's something wrong with your phone as that sky is definitely blue and not slate grey as everyone knows it should be.

Off to sun myself in the Costa del Bearsden.

Mrsjayy · 14/05/2019 13:34

Is that Kelvingrove Katy

Skyejuly · 14/05/2019 13:37

Blackpool
Great yarmouth
Isle of wight

Dubai
Bali
Turkey

Skyejuly · 14/05/2019 13:37

Scotland is my favourite holiday.
The best ever.

Skyejuly · 14/05/2019 13:38

The sea isn't slate grey in the highlands? Its so blue and clear!
I'm in Suffolk....now that's grey sea!

kaytee87 · 14/05/2019 13:46

@DonkeyHohtay I live in bearsden

@Mrsjayy Yes, kelvingrove. It's lovely today.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 14/05/2019 13:48

Surprised to see Japan and Australia as frequent entries on so many people's anti-bucket lists. They're top must-dos for me. Of course Australia has a culture! The aboriginal culture is one of the oldest on the entire face of the planet.

I could never spend upwards of a day or two lying on a beach (and even those days would be well interspersed) so the Seychelles and Maldives wouldn't appeal to me.

I like active holidays (surfing, riding, canoeing, mountain walking) or places with plenty of culture to spend hours walking around (Florence, St. Petersburg, Jerusalem, Paris) but I'm another one who doesn't fancy skiing or snowboarding.

I'm respectful of other cultures and take care to dress conservatively, but if I never saw Egypt again ( or any country that treats women's bodies as dirty things that require covering up) I wouldn't be disappointed. Visited Cairo and Alexandria (not a Red Sea resort), and both were replete with that invasive, in-your-face, space-invading tipping culture, corrupt officials we were strongly warned against (esp. at Giza) and who wouldn't leave us alone, disrespectful and inappropriate attitude to females (Istanbul was also bad for this), dead horses and dogs in canals, rubbish piled nearly up to first flaw windows in Alexandria. Ugh!

Oh, and I'd forgotten the horrors of Jaywick completely until a PP mentioned it. I was shocked that such a place could exist in 21st century, 'developed' Britain! As for holidaying there, I'd rather check myself in for two weeks at Rampton ...

AhhhHereItGoes · 14/05/2019 13:48

Anywhere with Sharia Law or bad Human/Women's Rights.

Otherwise, just nowhere in hurricane season.

I'd like to see what most places are like.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 14/05/2019 13:49

First floor, that should read. Flaw? Can see where my mind was headed on that one, though ...

BlackcurrantJamontoast · 14/05/2019 13:50

Now, I wouldn't choose San Antonio, as an example, but there are

San Antonio is amazing as is Austin. Texas is not at all like perceptions.

Mumstheword1987 · 14/05/2019 13:50

Skegness
Blackpool
Pontins
Australia
Las Vegas any of America

Aquilla · 14/05/2019 13:50

Centre Parcs. Full of middle class tossers.

mojitoclock · 14/05/2019 13:53

I really don’t mean to be rude about Scotland. If someone said they found London filthy and hectic, I’d say fair enough. But don’t you find the architecture austere and grey? That building is the picture is a case in point.

The place that nearly finished me off in Scotland was Aberdeen tbh. Seriously, I felt quite ill after 3 days there.
