To hope that this is the end of Jeremy Kyle?

I've just read that today's episode of Jeremy Kyle was pulled because a "guest" that was due to appear has died. No details are known as yet. My view is obviously sympathy to the family and friends of the deceased person but also that this may be the wakeup call that this type of bear baiting voyeurism has had its day.

He is a bit of a prick but people must know what they're getting into before they chose to go on the show, and the fact that they are making their issues public

In the article, it says that he thought he was going to get help for his situation. He believed they had the best counsellors in the country. Based on that, I’m not sure that they do know what they’re getting into.

Orangeballon · 14/05/2019 00:47

It’s a disgusting program and I never watch it.

HelenaDove · 14/05/2019 00:50

Well you could say the same thing about marrying into the Royal Family.

Itsautumn · 14/05/2019 06:35

It’s an appalling show. I was an audience member a few years ago as my friend was a researcher on the show. I was so shocked by the experience as I’d never watched a whole episode before. Participants are screamed at, humiliated and its all about JK and has nothing to do with helping people. I wondered at the time if people really appreciated what they are getting themselves into. One person clearly had learning difficulties.
They record several shows a day. It’s a sausage factory, cheap to make and I don’t know what real aftercare people get. I hope this is the end of it. As consumers we should not watch this crap and put an end to it. My friend didn’t last on the show as she thought it was so appalling.

That was a cuntish thing to say newmun

newmun · 14/05/2019 06:53

True though

Bestfootforward1 · 14/05/2019 06:54

Fingers crossed the odious Jeremy Kyle goes.

Bezalelle · 14/05/2019 07:15

Reported, @newmum. That's a despicable thing to say.

Redact · 14/05/2019 07:29

Vile show, i make a point of not watching it. It preys on the vulnerable in the name of entertainment. Kyle keeps popping up on GMB as a replacement for piers Morgan, so someone at ITV seems to love him. Can't watch GMB now either whether it's Kyle or Morgan they both seem to come out of the same mould and shout down anyone with a differing opinion to theirs.

LimeKiwi · 14/05/2019 07:34

WTF is wrong with some people (and I use the word people lightly)

PerfectPeony2 · 14/05/2019 10:21

I think the sad thing is that some people on this thread don’t even see these people as vulnerable. They don’t understand the upbringing or potentially lives they most likely have led (drugs, lack of education, bad upbringing, abuse) to get to this point.

DNA and lie detectors are so unethical it’s a disgrace that it has gone on this long.

Some of them may want to go on there to get ‘fame’ but even that doesn’t make it okay.

staydazzling · 14/05/2019 10:26

I was in the audience once as a teen, my friend and I went with her bf, it wasn't a particularly explosive show 2 about cheating. A) the orange chairs are small irl, and so is he tbh. The phone number segments he does he records whilst the audience are silent it's odd, and i had a really bad cough Grin Also during breaks he would sit there and stare at the audience and if a girl including me would be messing with her hair he'd say something like "stop messing with ya hair you look lovely dear" then everyone would look at you ConfusedBlush.... a peculiar bloke I found.

HelenaDove · 14/05/2019 18:31

MP calls for show to be axed for good.

MissEliza · 15/05/2019 10:12

It's been axed Grin

GodDammitAmy · 15/05/2019 10:13

ITV have confirmed it has been axed. Good riddance.

EvilDog · 15/05/2019 10:18

Glad it’s gone. Shame they’re not taking the same stance with that Love Islands. How many contestants suicides has that had?

SemperIdem · 15/05/2019 10:28

I was wondering the same re Love Island, EvilDog.

There’s been two contestants commit suicide after appearing on it and the show’s run is far shorter than The Jeremy Kyle Show.

Perhaps it is because JK preys specifically on the vulnerable and poorly educated that it has been pulled immediately?

GodDammitAmy · 15/05/2019 10:39

I think it's probably because JK is directly linked to this suicide. I read that the victim said that JK personally laid into him.

WhiteDust · 15/05/2019 10:56

Definitely more to this than is being reported.

JK show axed, his twitter account deleted, JK himself nowhere to be seen. I'm guessing he's part of a police investigation.

The fact that it took a man to kill himself before all this happened is unbelievable.

JK and all involved in the shoe are scum of the earth.

WhiteDust · 15/05/2019 11:01

This article is over 10 years old. Unbelievable that the show continued to run for so long.

www.theguardian.com/media/2008/sep/07/itv.television

EmeraldShamrock · 15/05/2019 11:08

I can't believe it ran so long, I am surprised it hasn't been partly responsible for more deaths considering guests are usually very vulnerable.
I had a read up on the poor man, after some bad luck including his trip Jeremy Kyle, it must have seemed unbearable.
Lessons to learn, unfortunately it came to this. Sad

MissEliza · 15/05/2019 11:11

It's a good move but I would hope that it would provoke people to think about bullying and unkindness in general. People have become so nasty these days.

Sagradafamiliar · 15/05/2019 12:04

I'm so glad to read the show has been axed but I'm astonished it's taken so long and such extreme, sad circumstances to finally bring it to its end.
JK as a human is morally bankrupt and given what I've read about him over the years, arrogant beyond belief to still strut about belittling others and screaming in their faces when the only difference between him and them is class, poverty and in many cases, support workers. Disgusting, insecure bully fronting an unethical, exploitative programme.
I particularly hated the way he used to give details about women's sex lives for laughs, humiliating enough but some of them were clearly victims of abuse and coercion.

FishCanFly · 15/05/2019 13:33

How many people have died because of DWP sanctions and blunders? Just statistics...
