To hope that this is the end of Jeremy Kyle?

I've just read that today's episode of Jeremy Kyle was pulled because a "guest" that was due to appear has died. No details are known as yet. My view is obviously sympathy to the family and friends of the deceased person but also that this may be the wakeup call that this type of bear baiting voyeurism has had its day.

ITV has become a very trashy channel with the rare exceptions of dramas like Endeavour and Downton.

HelenaDove · 13/05/2019 16:39

I watch a lot of vintage/retro TV Talking Pictures TV and Forces TV are what i have on. And ive watched old series on you tube too.

LimeKiwi · 13/05/2019 16:42

YANBU, cannot stand that programme and no idea how people can watch it.
Awful the way people are treated on it.

pictish · 13/05/2019 16:44

Awful show. Always the same format. He brings them on, winds them up, creates a floor show then talks the poor fuckers back down again to exit stage left before he wheels out the next lot. Manipulative, exploitative and in my opinion, really distasteful.
Dislike.

Lizzie48 · 13/05/2019 16:44

I do watch it sometimes. I’ve observed that the addicts who come on the show are frequently in a very bad place, have been using for many years and the medical prognosis is often very grim if they don’t come off the drugs. Thinking about it, it’s surprising something like this hasn’t happened before.

Horribly tragic and very distressing for the family and friends. Sad

birmanbaby · 13/05/2019 16:46

There was a teacher on here a few years ago who said the producers regularly sent out staff to hand out leaflets to the parents outside her school inviting them on the show.

School was in a really deprived area full of social issues. Think they got paid £200 a night in a hotel. Utterly disgusting

SilverySurfer · 13/05/2019 16:47

It's a vile, hideous programme. No-one's misfortune and troubles should be used as so called 'entertainment'.

ScreamingValenta · 13/05/2019 16:50

YANBU. It's the 21st Century version of Victorians taking a trip to Bedlam to laugh at the inmates.

FishCanFly · 13/05/2019 16:54

I always expected that this show will end because of fakery rather than someone dying

Laiste · 13/05/2019 16:58

ScreamingValenta - YANBU. It's the 21st Century version of Victorians taking a trip to Bedlam to laugh at the inmates.

This 100%.

Gingerkittykat · 13/05/2019 17:17

A local woman who is a drug addict and big issue seller went on the show, her daughter was begging her to get help.

After the show she got continual abuse on the street and people refused to buy the Big Issue from her.

I don't even watch the show but got told all of the gory details.

It's the worst kind of exploitation of the vulnerable. People get excited about a free trip to London and a hotel stay but end up just looking stupid.

pauli50 · 13/05/2019 17:26

I used to watch Jeremy Kyle for no other reason than I could have a bit of a laugh at the ridiculousness of it & why anyone would want to go on it! However I am ashamed of myself. The way some obviously vulnerable people are lambasted. Lie detectors, DNA tests etc... TV of the poorest quality and throwing in aftercare as some kind of get out !!

DefinatelyAWeeGobshite · 13/05/2019 17:28

Absolutely awful show that exploits extremely vulnerable people for “entertainment”. Disgusts me that JK has gotten away with him bullying and intimidation for so long.

Tinyteatime · 13/05/2019 17:34

Yanbu. I hope it’s finished for good. It’s awful and Jeremy Kyle is a vile bastard. I once worked at an event he was a guest at and overheard him and one of his cronies quite openly ‘joking’ about uxoricide and generally being drunk misogynistic twats.

Becca19962014 · 13/05/2019 17:37

It'll come back. Just with more so called after care. It's the same after care (run by his "expert") that looks after all the ITV reality tv contestants. Am example being those on love island who have later ended their lives.

It's been pulled before and should have stayed gone then. Unfortunately Too many are taken in and "entertained" by it. I've seen what it can do to people through a once local person who made the mistake of going there and what they went through, horrendous. And no the so called rehab was not worth it. At all.

ArgyMargy · 13/05/2019 18:03

The show would not exist without people wanting their 15 minutes of fame.

x2boys · 13/05/2019 18:03

There was a death a few years ago, s young women local ish to me so had been on for drug rehabilitation, however how the JK show reported the circumstances of what happened differed greatly to how the local paper reported the coroner's inquest .

Singlenotsingle · 13/05/2019 18:06

It won't be the end for JK. He's got other shows, and no doubt does the rounds speaking at events. Don't worry about him. He'll be ok.

HelpAFattieOutHere · 13/05/2019 18:07

I've read that it was a guest who ended their life following a lie detector test which he had claimed to have given an inaccurate guilty verdict. Would explain a big investigation. Another article (the Sun I think, hardly top quality journalism I know!) didn't say anything about circumstances but did mention the two Love Island contestants (?) who took their own lives recently which would fit with the above speculation. It made no sense to he mentioned in the article other than a "read between the lines" type thing

CaptainJaneway62 · 13/05/2019 18:18

Who in their right mind actually wants to watch this awful programme?

I hope it never gets aired again.

PortiaCastis · 13/05/2019 18:24

I really hope that low trash is finished, only managed a couple of shows and ended up shouting at the awfulness

OldUnit · 13/05/2019 18:34

I agree there needs to be a wider conversation had about reality tv as a whole.
Male suicide and poor mental health are rocketing.
