To hope that this is the end of Jeremy Kyle?

I've just read that today's episode of Jeremy Kyle was pulled because a "guest" that was due to appear has died. No details are known as yet. My view is obviously sympathy to the family and friends of the deceased person but also that this may be the wakeup call that this type of bear baiting voyeurism has had its day.

Hate this type of show which just exploits the vulnerable.
In the early 90s I worked in a day hospital for people with dementia and we actually had a researcher for a local radio "comedy" quiz show visit us. She asked if she could identify a few "characters" who might want to be on their programme.
Told her where to go.

QueenOfTheEighthKingdom · 13/05/2019 22:28

Looks like a suicide sadly.

Don't mind a bit of Jezza to while away the minutes on the cross trainer of a morning. He is a bit of a prick but people must know what they're getting into before they chose to go on the show, and the fact that they are making their issues public.

That slot has always been a talk show of some type iirc. Wonder if they'll get Vanessa back to do an 'AIBU' show of her own.

HelenaDove · 13/05/2019 22:34

Previous talk shows like Kilroy (although that was BBC1) The Time The Place and Vanessa didnt have the same format as Kyle.

mouldyhousemouldylife · 13/05/2019 22:35

I hope so. Jeremy is a massive cuntwipe.

PortiaCastis · 13/05/2019 22:35

So has the vile treatment on this car crash show driven a vulnerable person to suicide?

mabelsgarden · 13/05/2019 22:36

@HelenaDove

ITV have turned into the lowest common denominator . Was at my parents on Saturday night and we were watching a film Voyage of the Damned on Talking Pics TV (its about the St Louis) ive seen it before on the same channel My 24 year old niece and my dad found it as interesting as i did. So DM was outvoted. The film finished at 9.45pm. So DM put it on ITV (her default channel) and WTF were Bradley Walsh and co. doing FFS.

Agree about the new Bradley Walsh show - ('Guest List' or something?) It was bleedin' awful. Embarrassingly bad. I am stunned that someone as talented and funny as Bradley Walsh, would stoop so low as to churn out utter garbage like that show from last Saturday night.

It was like a cross between Celebrity Juice, and a naff 1980's chat show, with B list guests. Emma Bunton and her 'partner' singing a duet made me cringe. He is from an ancient 1990s boyband who haven't been relevant this century, and she is the Spice girl with the weakest voice. And Piers Morgan and Jack from Love Island were on it too. And shocker Jack put lipstick on, and gave Bradley a kiss! Shock

And Joe Pasquale in an adult nappy! Confused Also Holly bloody Willoughby's constant squeaking, and (obviously fake) outrage really grated on me. It was soooooo bad.

gamerchick · 13/05/2019 22:38

That's so sad, that poor bloke.

Raindropsonroses27 · 13/05/2019 22:42

Not going to lie, I have watched Jeremy Kyle over the years on sick days and maternity leave. Found the raucous rows mildly entertaining at times. But this has knocked me for six. I guess sometimes you forget youre watching real people with real problems.

I always said the lie detector thing was wrong though. It's not used in a court of law because of its inaccuracy so why use it as entertainment? In this case it's clearly gone very very wrong for a vulnerable person. So sad.

mabelsgarden · 13/05/2019 22:45

@QueenOfTheEighthKingdom

Thanks for that link to the Mail.

How tragic. Sad That poor man.

He seemed very upset about failing the lie detector test, and actually seemed 'traumatised.' I wonder if he was telling the truth, and it had been fixed?! Shock

Makes me wonder how many people who fail the lie detector test, actually were telling the truth after all??? I wonder if some are told they have failed, (when they haven't!) to cause a shitstorm, and a massive argument.

Jeremy Kyle show is an awful show, and Kyle is an awful man. I really hope he is never seen on TV again, or this appalling show! Sad

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 13/05/2019 22:48

Just read that article Queen.
RIP Steven. X.
Those stupid lie detector tests are a load of rubbish. If they were that reliable wouldn't courts just use them instead of bringing in a jury.

PerfectPeony2 · 13/05/2019 22:57

Just read the article about what happened.

Absolutely disgusted. I don’t know how anyone who makes this show sleeps at night- they have exploited many vulnerable people including families with young children. I don’t know how it’s gone on so long, and now this poor man has paid the ultimate price. So heartbreaking and avoidable. I really do think that ITV have no morals.

cdtaylornats · 13/05/2019 23:00

Jeremy Kyle appeals to the same demographic that used to go to freak shows.

LimeKiwi · 13/05/2019 23:15

Just read the article Sad
Awful, just awful.

Tillygetsit · 13/05/2019 23:37

Thanks for the article Queen. That poor man. I really hope that's the end of this horrible type of "entertainment"

I don't think it's an ITV thing, other channels can be just as bad.
Programmes like Big Brother and other reality shows for a start as well.

LegoToast · 13/05/2019 23:53

Awful story, but at least some good may come of it. Sad

Jedeye · 13/05/2019 23:58

These programmes are super cheap to produce and that’s half the reason why it’s been running for yonks. It’s trash tv which relies on viewing figures to create advertising revenue for ITV. It will be replaced with some other shite but hopefully we won’t see JK again and his over inflated ego.

swimlyn · 14/05/2019 00:07

Google this phrase:
Jeremy was a gambling addict and what startles me is the hardline approach he takes with the people who appear on his show

And see what you think…

Allhailthesun · 14/05/2019 00:22

Exploiting the vulnerable? Everyone is vulnerable. Is it only acceptable for real people to be on a TV when they have a ‘ journey” or look good in bikini or a mouth full of veneers? Even when these are the the poor people actually commit sucicide.

Ugly, not that bright or dressing badly and its all “ exploitation”. These people want to be on TV as much as Katie spruce, or Dani what’s her name. These aren’t “freak shows”. These are exactly the same issues as AIBU but with people that shout a lot.

HelenaDove · 14/05/2019 00:27

FFS Allhail You do realize that there are other options besides chat and reality shows dont you

Quality dramas and comedies. Things the UK used to do really well.

and comedy dramas.............a mix of the two.

HelenaDove · 14/05/2019 00:28

On AIBU people arent having to show their faces or use their real names. So a poor comparison.

HelenaDove · 14/05/2019 00:31

"Ugly, not that bright or dressing badly and its all “ exploitation"

Yes? And the Daily Mirror got their arses handed to them on a plate last night for making nasty misogynistic comments about women attending the BAFTAS

Time is up for this sort of shit.

M3lon · 14/05/2019 00:33

I watched a JK episode once and couldn't believe the way they used the lie detector tests as absolutely reliable - while running a scrolling text on the screen saying they weren't.

Fucking horrendous. At least a quarter of all those told they were lying on screen in front of a baying crowd were actually telling the truth. I can't imagine how that would feel and can only say that I agree with everyone else that I can't believe it has taken this long for something tragic to happen.

I honestly hope it never sees the light of day again.

RubberTreePlant · 14/05/2019 00:40

I hope so OP.

HelenaDove · 14/05/2019 00:41
