the Jeremy Kyle Show guest was caused by suicide, and think that something like this happening has been a long time coming. Desperate and/or vulnerable guests publicly finding out terrible things or being berated and made to feel like shit on Jezza's shoe-even the ones who are admitting to their faults and have gone on the show voluntarily in order to get help. I'm not blaming JK as such and I know the aftercare is supposed to be fantastic but I just think sometimes the show does take it much too far in the name of entertainment.

My first thought was suicide too but it could also be murder or abuse. I'm surprised it's taken this long for it to be pulled. TV sanctioned bear baiting and bullying. Like the Romans' at the collisseum baying for blood. Nasty dangerous mob rule stuff preying on the vulnerable. We should be better than this.

Other things I remember from my days of being around such shows: a big problem is that most of the people who work on them see such a clear dividing line between themselves and the members of the public who appear on them: the researchers and crew as well as presenters are generally middle-class or thereabouts, got degrees, only socialise with equally educated, middle-class, working-in -media people (and this is much, much worse now you have to do months of unpaid internships to get a job in the media - only those who can be supported by their well-off parents can manage it). I heard the pool of guests referred to as 'pond scum' more than once.

There's also the fact that many such shows either do give out, or imply they will give out, money to participants. Sometimes it's indirect, with people being allowed if not encouraged to believe that they will become rich&famous if they go on the telly, sometimes, with shows like Big Brother, what seems like a pleasant but not massive amount of cash to a middle-class tv researcher is absolutely life-changing and worth a lot of humiliation and distress to secure to someone who is on the dole and living in a shit bedsit.

Show has been cancelled permanently. And poor Jeremy won't even be able to watch himself whilst he's sitting at home when he should be out working!
