To ask how you work out costs of utilities for a lodger?

Hi all. Looks like I might have a lodger rather sooner than I had planned as I saw someone advertising on SpareRoom.com and thought they could be a good fit in my household.

Messaged them and they are interested. But, how to work out what to charge? Obviously my useage of everything will go up, and I'll no longer get the Council Tax single person discount.

Any hints from lodgers or those who have a lodger would be very welcome

Just charge the going rate for a houseshare. Sth east where i am is 500 a month inclusive.

Rent + half bills, assuming there are just the two of you in the property.

Have a look at what the going rate is in your local area and whether you’re going to share bills or charge a flat rate.
If that’s the case I would think about how it’d work if they were putting on the central heating all day long

Thanks for the advice. All sorted.
