Does anyone else get “fixated” on a celebrity?

Does anyone else get weirdly intense crushes on celebrities? I’m not even sure if crush is the right word but I go through phases where I watch everything an actors ever been in, read their interviews, that kind of thing. I’ve used the word fixated in the title because I can’t really think of how to describe it.

At the moment it’s Richard Armitage, it isn’t even a fancying him thing I just really really like him as a person. I’ve watched every interview, downloaded audio books, watched some utterly terrible films just because he’s in them..

Does anyone else do this? My friends never seem to (I don’t really talk about it though) and I was wondering if IABU to ask if other people do this too..? I mean obviously most celebrities have a fan base so it can’t be that unusual. I just feel a bit odd, like nobody else does this. It’s happens a few times a year with different people, I’m very fickle Grin

That's good. It would be such a disappointment to meet the object of your celebrity affections only for them to be a total arse!
Yeah I was kinda worried as stars can be very rude and arrogant, but Ron is just so cool. He really loves and appreciates his fans Star

Crazycatlady10 · 13/05/2019 21:30

I love hearing people are nice to their fans, i wonder if they know just how much it means to people

I quite liked the wedding dress although the sheer panels would have been better opaque IMO. The style of it, aside from the see through ness, was quite daring and I take my hat off to her for having the balls to wear it!

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 14/05/2019 11:30

Yes, and Richard Armitage has been the object of one of these crushes, along with Lee Pace (very long term one), Benedict Cumberbatch and Mads Mikkleson.

DH seems to regard it like a hobby. I like to think I've discovered some really good TV and films because of this - it's broadening my horizons, right?

LesserBohemian · 14/05/2019 11:46

David Thewlis, Mads Mikkelsen and Matt Smith all play in my secret garden. WinkGrin

Fairylea · 14/05/2019 11:52

I get this, I do this a lot. To be fair I have Aspergers so I think it is part of my make up. I go through obsessive things with true crime stuff and weather phenomenon stuff as well (tsunamis etc) where I look everything up and search for stuff about it all.

My previous celebrity fixation was Freddie Mercury, then it became Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas and now most oddly I keep reading stuff etc about Neil Jones the strictly dancer - even though I don’t even bloody watch Strictly! I got interested in how he felt about his wife and the whole Sean walsh kiss thing and it went from there. My things aren’t sexual / fancying people at all, it’s not a “crush” as such. I just get weirdly interested! Odd!

Crazycatlady10 · 14/05/2019 12:02

I only heard of Lee Pace when I was “researching” Richard Armitage, he seems like a very nice chap.

It definitley is a hobby Wink! I would never have watched Castlevania if it wasn’t for RA but I did and really enjoyed it so it’s opened my mind..that’s my excuse anyway..

Are you watching Berlin Station? I have recorded season 2 to binge watch.

Lee is lovely, I thoroughly recommend him as a crush and recommend Halt and Catch Fire on Amazon for 4 seasons of bliss (it's actually very good and very strong women characters). I wish 'RichLee' was still a thing but alas it looks like they've both moved on.

Crazycatlady10 · 14/05/2019 12:11

I found the whole richLee thing fascinating, obviously I was looking at it four years too late but was it definitley a real thing?! Hard to tell because all the websites were bias one way or another.

I can’t stand Berlin station, I watched a bit for him but I found it really poorly written and I just didn’t care about any of the characters. I’ll check out halt and catch fire, thanks!

I do but I'm more loyal, it's been the same American actress for about 3 years. She's not in anything at the moment and her social media activity is sparse. Absence makes the heart grow fonder!

Drogosnextwife · 14/05/2019 12:28

Yup, I get a bit carried away sometimes Blush

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 14/05/2019 12:29

Yes, I think it was a real thing. I think a one-off for Richard but Lee is gay. They were a beautiful couple!

That's a shame about Berlin Station, though I do find it very complicated and have to get DH to explain the plot, but I find that about all spy things.

FishCanFly · 14/05/2019 12:32

when I was a teenager, my fandoms were limited to scrapbooking and posters on the walls. But now I can really indulge myself - have collections of films and boxsets, books, memorabilia, attend events - whoa! Grin

Crazycatlady10 · 14/05/2019 12:50

Such a gorgeous couple. I’m not sure about RA, I read the weirdest interview from years ago where he was kind of saying he wasn’t sure he loved his girlfriend and that it was a constant struggle to stay faithful. Seemed a very odd thing to say and made me wonder if the girlfriend was fictional 😂 maybe he just lacked tact/needed media training.

here you go, Lee and Anne Friel (Lee's co star from Pushing Daisies) visiting Richard backstage at The Crucible. Phwoar!!

Does anyone else get “fixated” on a celebrity?
Crazycatlady10 · 14/05/2019 13:12

I read that lee was spotted in the audience at least 6 times. Definitely wouldn’t sit through the crucible six times for someone who was just my mate!

Also I’ve seen that picture a few times and whenever I’ve seen it people have either a) photoshopped anna out or b) left out that it was taken at the theatre. I thought it was at their flat, it’s what I mean about bias. Not that it’s any of my business I’m just a nosey Parker with too much time on her hands!

Re reading through the thread, I get obsessed with historical events too. The titanic was mine for a long time - I still find it fascinating. And executions too, I find myself researching into those a lot.

When i watched Blackfish on Netflix I became an orca activist for about a week, staying up until early hours every night just researching Blush

Crazycatlady10 · 14/05/2019 14:00

Omg blackfish!!! I did the same, it was very powerful. I make everyone watch it, and when I’m stressed I watch it as I find it weirdly calming. I did read quite a lot debunking what the people said but it changed the way I view aquariums and zoos forever.

Yes! Bill Hader and John Mulaney currently

They’re such funny guys, Stefon is a genius creation.

I did the same thing with Blackfish! Blush

LightsInOtherPeoplesHouses · 14/05/2019 14:53

Yes I do, and with other things as well - some historical event, a book, a videgame, tv show.

Richard Armotage is lovely, but has been replaced by Tom Hiddleston for me.

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 14/05/2019 15:17

Tom is lovely as Loki but my researches into Tom (which I may have momentarily indulged in) aren't favourable in general.

I remember being obsessed by Berlin when I was a teenager, I thought it sounded like the coolest place on the planet. I have still never been there! Maybe it's why I like Berlin Station (aside from RA, I mean).
