Lost things on Facebook

I see this quite regularly on my newsfeed, a picture of say a bank card with a caption like 'found this in Tesco today, if anyone knows a Michaela O'Neill will you tag her! Share and let's get this back to its owner!' Ok so that's well intentioned but why not hand the card into the shop where the person lost it/police/bank? I have sometimes thought about asking but don't want to be rude Confused

Because Michaela O'Neill May not realise she's lost the card for some time, but might see the FB post. Or a friend might.

Also because police stations tend to be out of town centres and it's more convenient for all involved if the owner can collect the list item locally.

And if owner can't collect, at least s/he knows it's safe.

And finally, because the police don't publish lists of lost items.

But how do you know the owner lives locally? And surely it would be just as convenient for all concerned if the shop had the card?

I’ll hand it in to a shop but put a post up saying that I had found a card with x name in it and had handed it in at Asda. Hopefully with 7 degrees of separation the owner gets it back.
