Or do other people always also try and get into new suggested series on Netflix but somehow end up watching re runs instead as somehow they just arent as easy to get into. Or never have characters you can begin to give a shit about.

I think I'm destined to get old ,surrounded by cats watching the same old box sets BlushGrin

Is it also bad that despite knowing what happens it's still possible to lose an entire weekend.

If I mutter the words " they dont make them like they used to" house have my permission to knock me out.. Grin

I don't seem to enjoy TV shows as much as I used to. I don't have the patience anymore to get into them, get to know the characters etc. Or either that they go ridiculous after 2/3 series in. I'm looking at you Blacklist and Person of Interest.

SarahTancredi · 11/05/2019 21:07

Yes I probably lack the patience too.

I like a particular "feel" to things I dont do happy, hugs and puppies . I like dark and depressing. I loathe happy endings.

FaithInfinity · 11/05/2019 21:11

Yes yes *Fatted! I love the first two seasons of Person of interest but the third season was awful!

Sarah I’m guessing you liked Prison Break?! There’s not many new shows I think are great these days. Very few comedies I enjoy. Someone told me Fleabag was great, I didn’t get past episode 2! I do go back and watch old stuff again. It feels like being reunited with old friends. My favourites are Scrubs, Gavin and Stacey and Buffy.

SarahTancredi · 11/05/2019 21:29

Whatever makes you say that faith Wink

I guess I miss the head fucks. Spike tried to rape and kill buffy but he loved her and saved the world.

House was an arse . A drug addict and a user. But saved all those no one else could.

Dr Carter ignored his intern and she was killed then got addicted to drugs and u felt sorry for him.

And t bag symbolised evil itself but without him Michel never would have been able to return to his wife and son.

No one makes you.love
And hate characters at the same time like that any more.

cinnabarmoth · 12/05/2019 08:06

I do the same, I think partly it is down to lack of characters to care about, but I also think it is because of the availability of all the episodes, I start watching something new and by about 2 1/2 seasons in I'm fed up. Most of the series I have really enjoyed and got all the way through have had a great set of characters and have either had seasons released one episode at a time or I knew from the start there was a limited number of seasons IE they didn't go on endlessly. Orphan Black, iZombie and Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries come to mind as examples.

fitzbilly · 12/05/2019 08:10

The wire.

Ever since I watched it for the first time years ago nothing else comes close. Nothing.

I can still happy watch it all again.

GinDaddy · 12/05/2019 08:14

Not weird at all, I’m still gleefully watching 90s sci fi

Emmapeeler · 12/05/2019 08:19

The suggested series on netflix don’t often interest me - there is a lot of dross on there and it’s done by an algorithm.

I read reviews instead eg the Guardian’s ‘Your Next Boxset’. There is some absolutely incredible recent TV out there, it’s a TV golden age, it’s just finding what to watch amongst all the choice. Also, I find I need to watch at least four episodes before deciding I don’t like something.

Having said that, I am in between other things rewatching Mad Men, my all-time favourite.

wanderings · 12/05/2019 08:26

I'm very cynical about TV in general; long before Netflix I noticed that many shows will follow a formula: polar opposite characters thrown together, who loathe each other at first, and are married by the end of the series. Even with reality TV such as The Apprentice, it looks as if the producers have decided who will win before they even start filming.

I also remember the predictability of shows such as Monarch of the Glen, and Keeping up Appearances. I'm sure the latter was written to parody itself. "Do sit down Elizabeth, anywhere... EXCEPT THERE!" (Timid Elizabeth shrieks and spills coffee over herself) "Now don't worry dear, it hasn't gone over my furniture, or anything that matters." Most episodes contained this, with a small variation each time.

I even remember noticing it as a child, with fairy tales. Beauty and the Beast? The beast is a handsome prince under an enchantment. Snow White and Rose Red? Change beast to bear, same ending. Another trope is an inept character (e.g. the Worst Witch, Neville Longbottom, Edmund in Lion/Witch/Wardrobe) redeems themselves by saving the day at the end.

SarahTancredi · 12/05/2019 09:43

Ha fitz

Yes fully agree. There is always one or 2 TV series that once you watch it ruins TV for you forever.

When x files and er finished it took ages to get into anything else. Nothing came close.

Now I recently binge watched prison break and I'm right back there Blush

I always hated watching shows in weekly installments as I always looked forward to the days when kids would he staying over somewhere or I had done everything I needed to do and had time to watch a few episodes .

But maybe watching weekly is what gets you through it now. I am.loving 911 and the rookie at the moment.

But I dont see them as re watch when they make it onto Amazon material.

I'll happily watch new telly, but I'm really like this with films. If I'm in on my own I'll always end up watching a film I've watched before, rather than risk the investment in time watching something new I might not like!!

YouTheCat · 12/05/2019 09:50

You might like 3% on Netflix - only 2 seasons and quite dark.

Sabrina is good.

If you have Prime, American Gods is really worth a watch.

SarahTancredi · 12/05/2019 09:55

I liked the first season of sabrina

Second season so far is rather dull. They have changed all the characters they are like strangers again.

I will take a look at 3 % though.

owl I have tried really hard to not do that. After all how will I find new films. But after losing an evening trying to follow Eloise, and some other pile of shite I couldn't get into, I should have just stuck to one I knew I liked Grin

TessieVanKendre · 12/05/2019 09:59

You'd be surprised how many people do what you do OP. I am one 😂

captainprincess · 12/05/2019 10:01

@SarahTancredi I'm exactly the same!! I try to get into something new but find myself watching something I've seen at least 10 times before!
I'm currently re watching Prison Break and loving it BlushGrin
Though I have started Dead to me and really enjoying it, so I guess there is still hope for me to watch new things!

HarryTheSteppenwolf · 12/05/2019 10:03

Everyone is weird. We're just weird in different ways.

Personally, I think it's weird to be watching Netflix. You will probably think I'm weird for thinking that.

SarahTancredi · 12/05/2019 10:03
Grin

I admit to being relieved. I was worried I was heading to midlife crisis status for a minute.

The down side is it makes it harder to follow actors in other things as they are all 20 years older than you are watching them on screen. You then dont recognise them when you see them 🤣

Singlebutmarried · 12/05/2019 10:06

Also watching the rookie and 911 here.

Currently working my way thru lucifer on prime but not sure how many more time I can watch Tom whathischops do the boggle eyed weird grin thing.

Jamestown is back on but I can’t remember what happened last time.

Am waiting for DD to be old enough for BTVS

Might watch prison break again

Oh and I got from S1 to S9 of supernatural in a very short time, but have had to take a break.

SarahTancredi · 12/05/2019 10:10

captain

Theres supposed to he a season 6.

I was worried I'd hate season 5 but I think its brilliant. I think its probably because in alot of series over the years when they get big they kinda "glam up" the characters and they arent who you started watching and caring about. Season 5 they had changed but in a way that was believable and realistic And they were all incredible at portraying the hurt/pain. It was all over their faces. Pulled you straight back in despite the dramatic surprise of how it started .

OP posts:
chuttypicks · 12/05/2019 10:16

I totally get it op. I'm on an endless loop of Grey's Anatomy, and have been for years. I've seen every episode many many times and can't seem to get into anything else. I think I've lost my concentration skills since having a child and just can't concentrate on learning about new characters and storylines on other shows.

Meangirls36 · 12/05/2019 10:25

Been watching the Spanish princess it's ok not amazing. It's the summer so not alot going on apart from game of thrones and endgame. Good omens is coming should be good and American gods was great. I try and just get new classics in the rotation and remember they remade some like it hot into white chicks and no one noticed. Hollywood rotates alot of stories.

UrbanMage · 12/05/2019 10:27

I'm a bit like this. I can watch old episodes of CSI, Gilmore girls, Buffy and House forever. However most TV bores the shit out of me.

The exception to this is Line of Duty and GOT.

captainprincess · 12/05/2019 10:33

@SarahTancredi yeah, I keep hearing about season 6, fingers crossed! I really like all the seasons but particularly enjoyed season 3.
I guess it's kinda a comfort thing, re watching. You don't have concentrate 100% as you know what is going on.

blibblibs · 12/05/2019 10:34

If it's dark TV you're after I can heartily recommend The Handmaids Tale.
It's excellent disturb viewing.
Season 1 & 2 are on Netflix, which we haven't quite finished and S3 starts early next month.

captainprincess · 12/05/2019 10:35

@chuttypicks I do this with Grey's as well. Then I finish that and start with ER and the loops continues BlushI agree it is also a concentrating thing.
