Or do other people always also try and get into new suggested series on Netflix but somehow end up watching re runs instead as somehow they just arent as easy to get into. Or never have characters you can begin to give a shit about.

I think I'm destined to get old ,surrounded by cats watching the same old box sets BlushGrin

Is it also bad that despite knowing what happens it's still possible to lose an entire weekend.

If I mutter the words " they dont make them like they used to" house have my permission to knock me out.. Grin

I have trouble with a lot of tv I find my attention span is getting shorter. 16 episodes of something. Ten minutes what happened last week then adverts. Then what’s going to happen next week. You actually get half hour of programmes. Could be done in half the time.
I have to not exactly like the characters but identify with some of them.
I find they say and do the most extraordinary things.

ThatCurlyGirl · 12/05/2019 20:43

I have found my people!

I think for me it's almost like white noise watching reruns of my favourites especially when they are pretty gentle (Seinfeld / Frasier etc) as I can't sleep with silence so have them on in the background and have gotten used to them.

Weirdly when I'm particularly stressed out I'm better watching more stressful stuff like prison break (I hope one day someone will look at me like Sucre looked at Marie Cruz Smile) because I think it distracts me as it gets my brain in a different gear to the calmer stuff.

Anyway, yes we may well be weird but wonderfully so!

A genuinely lovely long term ex had the same thing with silence and sleep as me, so it was brilliant! Endless rounds of great shagging and great box sets(by which I mean an alternate hopping from one to the other, sometimes literally) every night. Good times. Very good in fact. Ooh I'd forgotten about him!

I'm uh... off to bed now to just have a little remember about him. And have if you're a Seinfeld fan, I'm losing the contest. It's been a long day and I deserve a treat Wink

Chesntoots · 12/05/2019 20:51

I bloody loved Lie to Me and White Collar, but mostly I am the same as you.

I binge watched Breaking Bad this week, I could watch House and Dexter on a loop and The Wire ruined anything else that came after.

There are very few things that I have enjoyed recently. Sense8 was phenomenal and I enjoyed OA (I know it was cheesy!) but most other things I can't get into.

It's the same with films too - The Shape of Water??!!! WTF??

SilverySurfer · 12/05/2019 22:26

Love both of those Chesntoots have re-watched Lie to Me and re-watching White Collar is next on my list. Also did the same with The Good Wife and The Mentalist.

SarahTancredi · 12/05/2019 22:37

Well hello to the new weirdos Grin

that

Yes he really loved her didnt he

I've never had anyone pull the look at me as Michel could with Sarah

That look was incredible...

I will try breaking bad on my night off tomorrow. I'll have to look into the wire too by the sound of it

YANBU Doctor Tancredi, PB cannot be beaten! Beside the brothers, I particularly liked Alex Mahone and T-Bag. I cannot get into many other series myself but do enjoy Peaky Blinders and Wentworth Prison. The Freak is a fantastic character, far nastier than the one we saw on late night telly in the 90s. Have you ever seen Six Feet Under? That might be worth a look.

SarahTancredi · 12/05/2019 22:56

T bag was the worst in that as much as you hated him, they needed him to kill everyone or do everything he did. Without him they would have been screwed

He was right.

Not seen six feet under . What's that about

Whatsnewpussyhat · 12/05/2019 23:11

Lie to me was awesome. West wing was great.
Most of the stuff now I get a couple of episodes in then give up.

Hate when things start off well, like dexter. Then drag on far too long. But worse is when they bloody cancel things without finishing them properly.

LetMeFall · 12/05/2019 23:43

I find it hard to get into something new. I feel like I have my favourites and I don't really need anything new but occasionally something will peak my interest and I'll give it a shot. If I don't pause it when I go to make a brew then I know its not worth it.

I've sometimes forced myself to watch up to 5 episodes with the idea that it might just take a while to 'get started' but that rarely ever works (santa clarita diet (sp?) - I had faith in drew barrymore! Utter shite and I usually love vampires) and then I'm annoyed at wasting my time!

Basically, if I'm not fully invested in the physical and mental wellbeing of the character/s by the end of the first episode then I won't carry on!

Bluestitch · 12/05/2019 23:51

You should try Power on Netflix if you like anti heroes. Never thought I'd find myself routing for such awful people! And it's so gripping and addictive.

I'm currently wading through Pretty Little Liars which is the first new thing I've watched in a while. I usually end up going back to Law and Order boxsets for the millionth time.

SarahTancredi · 13/05/2019 23:11

Well I'm three episodes in.

Theres just about enough to make me watch another few. Although it is a little slow.

Not sure the underpants and the gore are entirely necessary but I'll I'll go with it Grin

I'm not quite yet warming to the characters though.

And I do feel like I'm cheating on Michael and co BlushGrin

FaithInfinity · 14/05/2019 08:16

Don’t worry, you won’t love any of them as much as the PB team! It’s a slow burner but gets really good further along.

Shodan · 14/05/2019 08:32

Hah.

I knew I wasn't the only strange one Grin

I have a few things I watch over and over - BTVS, Angel, Gilmore Girls, Brooklyn 99. These are my go-to things when I'm feeling restless/bored.

I do try new things- my brother recommended Peaky Blinders but I just found it dreary. The Rookie I love. Liked Lucifer for a while but got bored.

I find it easier to get into a new thing if I can binge watch- I've just got up to date with Game of Thrones over a period of a few weeks. Couldn't bear it when it first came out, now I love it.

I have Showbox, which I can stream to the TV, so find a lot of binge-watching stuff on there- Manifest, Gone, and some others I haven't started yet.

I also reread books a lot, always have, so it must stem from that...

whattheactualfuckery · 14/05/2019 08:45

I'm a late starter to Netflix, so taking notes of series to watch here.
I'm on Breaking Bad, it's so good

SilverySurfer · 14/05/2019 19:17

If you fancy an undemanding, feel-good film, I really enjoyed Wonder on Netflix - starring Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson. Naturally I've watched it twice {grin]

I also enjoyed Scorpion on Netflix and The Mentalist on Prime.

AlexaAmbidextra · 14/05/2019 19:27

I’m glad it isn’t just me. I’ve recently got Netflix after being told I really should by a number of people. What a disappointment! I watched The Crown - all good, and now can find hardly anything else I want to watch. I find that as I get older I don’t have the patience to bother getting into things. Apart from which, so much on offer seems to be the same old rubbish.

TheGrassIsSeveralShadesOfBlue · 15/05/2019 09:06

Hurrah for this thread and we can be weird together Grin

I used to be like this, more with books but also TV shows/films. I liked reading/watching things that are familiar, it's kind of comforting like an old blanket or something. I wonder if we all prefer cosy things generally, for example fairy lights in Winter rather than Summer etc.

Unfortunately I now have memory problems so even books I've read a dozen times can be unfamiliar to me . Films and TV I've watched previously can also surprise me! In some ways it's a benefit as I'm really getting value out of my Kindle and Netflix constantly re-reading and watching things I've paid for already. Grin

Amortentia · 15/05/2019 09:16

I find that i get fed up easily if i watch something new and it turns out to be disappointing or too violent, and most of the stuff I’ve seen recently usually involves the brutal murder of a women. 🙄

I found recently, at times of high stress there is real comfort to be had rewatching old stuff. I think it’s the familiarity and lack of concentration need to watch that recently I’ve been rewatching old stuff like Jonathan Creek, doctor who and I even bought the golden girls box set.

Reaah · 15/05/2019 09:30

I gave up with Netflix and I'm currently working my way through Sky Box Sets.

I loved Lie to me and was disappointed when they cancelled it.

White Collar was also great to watch

Reaah · 15/05/2019 09:32

I have ER to watch from season one

I Enjoyed watching Chicago Fire, Station 19, We the people and instinct.

SarahTancredi · 15/05/2019 09:36

Hooray more weirdos Grin

Yes I like all the Chicago stuff too but that's now all weekly. So useless for a binge watch session.

Unless over worked all week and haven't caught up with them all.

Need er to come on so we can watch past season 8!!!!

Breaking bad is excellent, as is better call Saul, such amazing characters. Also loved stranger things.

Wejustdontknow · 15/05/2019 10:09

I have just introduced ds13 to prison break and we are in season 2. He is loving it as much as I always have.
I also seem to watch the same few shows on repeat, my go to ones are
Greys anatomy
Bones
Criminal minds
Big Bang theory
I love blacklist, have only watched it once and have one episode left of season 5, completely disagree with pp who said it got bad after a couple of seasons

KissUntilTheyDieOfRabies · 15/05/2019 10:24

No Offense.

I think it's on the channel four app. Which is a very shit app. But it's three series, we just finished it, loved it.

Hugless · 15/05/2019 11:23

Nothing weird with that. Televisions are getting better and better, sadly the content pumped into said televisions is getting worse and worse. On top of that, as we are getting older and wiser, we also become more selective- I'd apply this to pretty much everything we do.
I tried to watch a "current" cartoon (not really a proper cartoon, those took ages to make, so why bother if a computer can spit one out in a split second at the fraction of the cost) my children (10yo) and it was excruciating and I'm sure it causes brain damage. I do enjoy new science programmes and documentaries but find it really painful to start watching something "NEW". I confess I watched the whole series of LOST recently (because I'm sure it will disappear from amazon soon) all Alien movies few months ago and chewing through the box set of X-files on bluray- taking it easy, one or two episodes a week. I generally abort watching something new if it fails to drag me in within first 5 to 10 minutes. IMHO over 90% of content on Netflix and Amazon is utter junk, 7% great and cosy old stuff for folks like us and remaining 3% is new stuff actually worth watching...
Binge responsibly, get out as much as you can and be happy.
