Or do other people always also try and get into new suggested series on Netflix but somehow end up watching re runs instead as somehow they just arent as easy to get into. Or never have characters you can begin to give a shit about.

I think I'm destined to get old ,surrounded by cats watching the same old box sets BlushGrin

Is it also bad that despite knowing what happens it's still possible to lose an entire weekend.

If I mutter the words " they dont make them like they used to" house have my permission to knock me out.. Grin

This is me, watch the same series' repeatedly because I just don't have the emotional energy - certainly not at the moment - to learn new characters and set ups it's much easier to watch something familiar and that I know I like

It may also be because I seem to like the ones that get cancelled!

So hard to find series and characters that I like. I like drama but nothing too heavy or disturbing:

White collar
Suits
Charmed
Bones
Lie to me
Death in paradise

You get the idea

And there seems so few of these shows made, so many are too invested in "pushing boundaries" and shocking the audience.

I love a good cliffhanger but I watch to be entertained not horrified!

Weirdly I feel "guilty" this means I'm "wasting" the subscription fees but then I think, I'm housebound (mh) I don't spend on anything but basics really it's not like I'm going without essentials to pay for them and the fees are relatively cheap - I'm old enough to remember video shops pre blockbuster and the MONTHLY fees are far less than 2 night hire fees for videos were and that's not even accounting for inflation! That's on actual figures! So from that perspective I think sod it its my one pleasure I've got at the moment.

I'm currently watching bones on I think 5th loop of this watch.

SarahTancredi · 12/05/2019 10:48

Greys probably should have finished around season 9/10

I watch because I have come this far and I'm not going to give up now. There have been some amazing episodes on later seasons but spliced with alot of crap aswell.

But 1-9 I could easily binge watch over and over.

The concentration thing is a good point.

Im prepared to "work at" something. But if you have to watch everything a character does at all times in order to get a feel for them . Or they have a gazillion lines fir no reason because they cant do the whole " everything said in one look" thing and you have to really listen to figure it out then I just dont have the patience for it really.

I like to at least be able to text or write the odd post on MN Wink without losing track of what's going on.

@SarahTancredi I was also a massive, massive PB fan! Totally in love with Scofield SmileSmileSmile

I think part of the issue is that there really is just a lot of rubbish out there.

Have you seen Breaking Bad? Vikings? Sons of Anarchy? I'm sure there are more but those are some other ones that I got totally invested in.

itscallednickingbentcoppers · 12/05/2019 10:55

I'm the same. I prefer BBC and C4 stuff to long American sagas. I find myself watching Friday Night Dinner and Derry Girls and Poldark over and over again. Easy watching and I know what happens so I can go and let the dog out for a pee or reply to a text without pausing it etc

DaisiesAreOurSilver · 12/05/2019 10:57

Me too. ITV3 for Poirot and Miss Marple for me.

SarahTancredi · 12/05/2019 11:04

I'm prepared to fight you for him youre WinkI have seen the odd clip of those or caught tail ends of episodes of they have been on while I'm around. But I've never sat and watched them.

I did attempt once upon a time as It had the actress from house and Robert carlysle in it but i just couldn't get into it.

Tried black mirror too but wasnt keen.

I do feel better seeing these confessions Grin

I do this. I also don’t watch shows until the full season is finished because I hate waiting week to week. I usually binge watch the series in a couple of days.

Not so into too many new ones. I re watch quite a few old ones. Currently rewatching Freaks and Geeks. Also love Supernatural, Grimm, Sopranos.

I know what you mean about the characters you love to hate. Some of the shows where the baddies end up becoming the good ones at the end of the show. like Vampire Diaries.

One of the new show I enjoy is The Punisher and The Passage.

JonSnowsFurCoat · 12/05/2019 11:14

Oh Russian Doll is worth a watch

CharityConundrum · 12/05/2019 11:45

Have you watched Breaking Bad? Definitely the show that had the most complex characters that are flawed and still and human and compelling of all the ones I've seen recently.

SarahTancredi · 12/05/2019 12:30

Ooh another vote for breaking bad then..

I have one evening off next week tomorrow so I'll make a start with an epi or 2...

FaithInfinity · 12/05/2019 13:23

Oh yes Breaking Bad fit the bill!! By the end I was thinking I don’t think I like anyone in this! Grin

Cherrysoup · 12/05/2019 13:27

I don’t watch the same stuff (except buffy!) and I love the Netflix matching percentage thing, ever so useful and has a good success rate for me. I’m currently debating whether to watch Santa Clarita Season 3 knowing it’s been cancelled, despite its popularity.

FaithInfinity · 12/05/2019 14:58

Cherry it is good but it is annoying that it’s been cancelled. It’s not a cliff hanger but just feels unfinished!

Emmapeeler · 12/05/2019 15:55

Breaking Bad is the reason we got Netflix. Also loved The Handmaid’s Tale, Homeland, Line of Duty, Happy Valley, and even things like Designated Survivor which is quite cheesy! I was also borderline obsessed with The Hour and Les Miserables (Dominic West...)

There many I haven’t watched which people constantly rave about. The Wire (so far only watched S1), The Sopranos, The Good Fight, Vikings, Peaky Blinders, Spiral, Deutschland 86. So much TV so little time.

I love a bit of Poirot though, and Morse re-runs, Endeavor, Lewis etc. And a good comedy re-watch. If I am doing housework or distracted I always put on comfort viewing.

julensaor · 12/05/2019 18:18

I am going to try the Wire, seeing as so many people mention it. One problem is the Netflix menu layout, the same old shite is in my 'recommendations for you' for the last 2 years (5 people use the same Netflix account which defeats the purpose of such a menu approach but anyway). I have no idea how the algorithm works but it's way off. I find if I just go to search and type in a random word, I find stuff (sometimes) that is never presented in the main menu categories ever and that can be quite good eg.lilyhammer, lovesick, getting on and I did watch the first episode of billions last night on sky (not on Netflix) and that looks pretty good.

JustTwoMoreSecs · 12/05/2019 19:42

What about Supernatural? From what you are saying I think you would like it.
Other ones with a hero you love/hate: Dexter, Nurse Jackie.

JustTwoMoreSecs · 12/05/2019 19:43

julensaor just setup a different account for each viewer?

N0tbloodylikely · 12/05/2019 20:06

The Bates motel was excellent and really enjoyed The last Kingdom. Uhtred the main character is very easy on the eyes and there is 3 seasons so far.

N0tbloodylikely · 12/05/2019 20:12

SilverySurfer · 12/05/2019 20:20

Singlebutmarried
Currently working my way thru lucifer on prime but not sure how many more time I can watch Tom whathischops do the boggle eyed weird grin thing.

Lucifer is my favourite thing on Prime and was really upset that Fox dumped it after three series. Luckily Netflix picked it up and series 4 appeared last week - 10 episodes and none disappointed.

I agree with you about re-watching stuff OP - I've just starting re-watching Grey's Anatomy and enjoying it a second time around.

Rspu1384 · 12/05/2019 20:24

I do the same. My mom suggested vampire diaries 🤦🏻‍♀️ What a load of shit.
Never get as good as breaking bad for me, I’m a sad case and have watched it about 5 times all the way through, absolutely love Bryan Cranston and hands down he is the best and most underrated actor ever.

Rspu1384 · 12/05/2019 20:25

Peaky blinders came close, I do really recommend it.

Rspu1384 · 12/05/2019 20:30

Killing eve is a very good watch too! The young actress ( forgot her name) is an incredible actress.
