Does anyone else get unwell with periods?

I mean every period for me = diarrhoea, hot sweats, loss of appetite, nausea, fatigue, severe cramps, headache, metal taste in mouth, anxiety, painful awful ache down below. I feel so unwell and it seems to be worse since I had a baby. This is every month and I'm not sure it's normal.

Anyone else get this?

I used to get ill like this. Violently sick every time. The first day cramps were like torture. I really sympathise, you poor thing.

I went on the injection for years and now I'm on the pill. I still get cramps but not as bad. I did have one period when we were trying to conceive and I was in a lot of pain then, too, so it's not even eased with age.

Yes! I have extremely light periods now because I'm in my late 40s. But oh, the bloating, the diarrhoea/constipation, the ache down the front of the thighs. I also feel winded and nauseated. Really do not think it's always endo.

My daughter (16) has severe vomiting with her periods, am thinking of suggesting that she goes on the pill and has no breaks (for a period). Has anybody tried this?

Oh yep, most of these things I can identify with!
Salt cravings, and then the inevitable thirst, urge incontinence, lightheadedness, terrible headaches, sore boobs with stabbing pains sometimes, and the sweats...... It's worse every other month for some reason. Think I'm approaching peri menopause because this month I only bled for 2 days, and I realised that they've been getting shorter and lighter, but the symptoms are getting worse each month. Especially the night sweats, which are great fun when you work nights, until the day I start and then I'm so, so cold, I can't get warm, no matter what the temperature around me. And we'll, mid cycle I'm so horny I always had a bit of an upsurge, but this is ridiculous, just started over the last couple of months but it's like I'm a teen-ager again, but worse. And I'm single too...... It's like my ovaries have suddenly realised their days are numbered and are just like 'get pregnant! anything will do!' I absolutely do not want another child, I'm not broody when I see babies either.
Oh the joys.

Yes, worse after each child. I'm on mini pill now and periods have stopped and feel so much better (however it took a long time to find the best treatment for me). Maybe have a good chat with your GP about possible treatments and if any referrals need to made incase there is anything else going on, that needs investigating.

I used to get so ill in my teens and early 20s that I absolutely dreaded my periods: diarrhoea, dizziness, agonising cramps that had me curled in a ball, headaches . . . then as I got older, the pain became longer but less acute, however I used to get premenstrual paranoia where I was really sensitive about what other people said or did.

So glad it's all over now!

misskatamari · 11/05/2019 12:20

Yep, i have so many of these symptoms as well. Awful nausea, fatigue, anxiety, pain, headaches. It absolutely sucks. Some months are worse than others, but i'm always absolutely wiped out around the start of it. The joys of being a woman :(

Mamabear12 · 11/05/2019 12:20

Try taking some extra iron. You can buy from health food store, floradix and make sure to have Vitaminc C in your diet. You could be low in iron. I can't believe how awful some women have it :( I have friends who faint or have to be in bed all day when on their periods. I am lucky and feel mostly fine. Except, for two days I have super heavy periods, which is annoying and can leak sometimes. But then its light and okay, no cramps etc. I have friends who don't bleed much etc. Some people are so lucky. But I know many that suffer. And the ones that have it worse seem to be low on iron.

Dd is 15 and has been off school for 2 days. Came on last night. Similar symptoms. A very interesting thread for me as I've never had anything except painful cramps before I had children. Now no pain, regular and normal bleeding. Copper coil in situ.
Never knew there are so many symptoms associated with periods.

Treaclepie19 · 11/05/2019 13:29

@Tingface now you mention it I do have a sore throat actually :/
