Does anyone else get unwell with periods?

marmiters · 10/05/2019 22:47

I mean every period for me = diarrhoea, hot sweats, loss of appetite, nausea, fatigue, severe cramps, headache, metal taste in mouth, anxiety, painful awful ache down below. I feel so unwell and it seems to be worse since I had a baby. This is every month and I'm not sure it's normal.

Anyone else get this?

Yep! I should've realised my period was coming early today. Have felt dreadful, diarrhoea, grumpy, achey, tired. Generally rubbish. I am on iron but it's been like this before I was on the iron as well so not sure it's related for me.

thaegumathteth · 10/05/2019 23:13

Oh and absolutely to the anxiety and I’m not usually a crier but before and during my period I cry alot

Plipplopbop · 10/05/2019 23:14

Yep, me too. I also catch any cold going so can be ill almost until the next period. I bore myself with my period illnesses so poor DH must be at his wits end.
Found iron helps with weakness, also drinking coke (full sugar one) helps with cramps and doc just given me some clotting pills to help with the slaughter house in my pants.
God was definitely a man.

Copperandtod · 10/05/2019 23:14

I still get vestibular migraines and lose feeling in left side face hands and hearing. But the pain abdominal is nothing like what it used to be. Mine used to be 28 days but now every 21 but I’m approaching menopause still in late 30s just.

BiBiBirdie · 10/05/2019 23:17

Yep
Literally feel like I have the flu and been run over. It's horrific. It's linked as an awesome combo of anaemia and PCOS. I'd recommend getting some blood tests done. I can take iron supplements which help a tad but unfortunately, the PCOS would be helped by the pill or a coil, neither of which I'm able to have.
It's awful, luckily I have a very understanding DH who puts me in bed rest.
I'm now worried about DD though as she just started hers and went pale and dizzy so I now have her awaiting a blood test. Mine wasn't diagnosed until 5 years ago and by then I'd had years of hell.

marmiters · 10/05/2019 23:17

Haven't mentioned them to the doctor as I've pretty much been like this for the past 15 years. It's become normal!

Yes, I get flu like symptoms a few days before, my legs feel like they're going to fall off & I get a rubber band type snapping pain in my side.
Before I had children my periods were normal & pain free.
As I had a caesarean delivery I'm wondering if it's scar adhesion?
GP did my bloods & I'm anaemic & have to a shed load of iron tablets.

bridgetreilly · 10/05/2019 23:19

I should say that although mine is bad and getting worse, it rarely lasts more than a couple of hours, and some months are not nearly as bad as others. I honestly don't know how people do it when you get this for a day or more every month.

VampirateQueen · 10/05/2019 23:20

I'm the same, every time. I end up spending most of my time in bed if DH is around.

MaryBoBary · 10/05/2019 23:20

When I first started my periods u would be physically sick every month. Then it all calmed down until I had my son and I started getting diarrhoea and bad cramping. Then lady year I had 2 miscarriages, the second needing surgery and ever since my periods have been incredibly heavy. Really quite shockingly heavy - like needing to flush the toilet 3 times to get rid of it all and lots of headaches. I'm due a smear next month which will put my mind at rest as I'm quite worried about it.

Tingface · 10/05/2019 23:21

Yes.
Anxiety, cramps, clots, exhaustion.
Diarrhoea, aching thighs.
Razor-sore throat and flu-like symptoms. Dizziness. I nearly fainted twice this week.

It’s getting worse; I’ve had to come home twice from work this year. I’ve never had to do that before and I’m mid 40s.

girlwithadragontattoo · 10/05/2019 23:24

I have funny periods, sometimes i can miss a period but still get symptoms (I've very stressed at the mo). The nightmares are horrible though, I'm due on any day now and i had a nightmare 2 days ago about giant slugs of all things. My mother is visiting at the moment (I live abroad) and i couldn't move and had to stay home and felt so guilty.
I also find i get irritated while I'm on my period and sometimes end up with thrush after

Didiusfalco · 10/05/2019 23:27

Yes, can totally relate to what everyone is saying, much worse after my 2nd dc for some reason. I ended up horrendously anaemic a few months ago, so much so that I was having palpitations and had sores around my mouth (less common side affects). Also have pco. Now I have the coil, early days - so far I have been bleeding or spotting for about 3 weeks - I’m really hoping it’s going to help!

lyralalala · 10/05/2019 23:28

Every single time. It's horrendous.

Plus the wind. The smelly wind in the few days before, during and after mortifies me.

FaithInfinity · 10/05/2019 23:28

Just because it happens regularly and you learn how to deal with it doesn’t mean it’s normal!

FWIW my PMS has significantly improved since I started taking a magnesium supplement at night time.

Nonononon · 10/05/2019 23:30

I used to feel like I had a flu for the 4 days before each period, it's actually how I knew I was pregnant because I was due on and I thought to myself "how come I don't feel ill?? 🤔" took a test and BINGO! Bun in the oven 😃
That stopped after I had dd now I just get awful pmt that I have to take medication for. (And 14 day long periods but I blame the coil for that 🙄)

AliceRR · 10/05/2019 23:32

Funnily enough I was just thinking of starting a thread in here about periods

I’m only coming up to three months post partum so they might calm down again but definitely more ferocious and painful.

Started cycle 3 today and I actually thought this might be an implantation bleed as I’ve been feeling sick, hot, dizzy, upset stomach (always seem to get this to some degree), weird taste in my mouth (and it’s about 5 days early but cycles might still be irregular following birth)

Also was wondering whether having painful vagina is just me as people talk about cramps but I feel more pain there

I get really bad PMS too. I thought it was normal for a while but only v recently it occurred to me that my friends might get a bit hormonal but it doesn’t seem to take over their lives as it does mine. I get irritable, angry, depressed, cannot focus even at work, pain in my body (only just linked this to cycle over last few weeks)...

Mrbay · 10/05/2019 23:32

Like others have said, sounds like endo. Please see your GP as once it's like a new you!!
Plus my GP advised me to take Angus cactus for my mood swings/depression - I could not believe that a herb could be so amazing!! Currently I'm going through IVF and forgot to ask the consultant if I could take them during treatment so I've stopped and boy do I know it! I am back to being moody, overly hungry and tired, so tired!

SwimmingKaren · 10/05/2019 23:33

I get fat and paranoid followed by snappy followed by eerily calm. Sore boobs, horrendous acne. It’s just not much fun really is it?

francienolan · 10/05/2019 23:35

Yes and more....including being a raging bitch just before, vomiting from cramps, bleeding so much that I need a new pad every hour. Hormonal birth control helps me but I know it isn't for everyone.

Hoppinggreen · 10/05/2019 23:35

Unfortunately we have a family history ( Mums side) of very difficult periods. Nausea, pain, dizziness etc. I went on the pill prevent it and apart from when TTC I’ve been on it for over 30 years now so I don’t know if I’ve grown out of it or not. I really hope DD doesn’t suffer like I did, she’s 14 and started her periods at 13. She gets some pain but nothing too awful yet
SIL mentioned something to me a few years ago about my niece being a total drama queen about her periods and I said that it was possible she might actually be really suffering like I had ( and my mum and grandma apparently). SIL was really surprised, she had no idea periods could be like that the lucky thing !

AliceRR · 10/05/2019 23:37

Oh and been having vivid dreams the past few days so maybe that is cycle related too

a magnesium supplement at night

Was this prescribed or did you read somewhere and buy it?

I need to try something for my PMS

That stopped after I had dd now I just get awful pmt that I have to take medication for. (And 14 day long periods but I blame the coil for that 🙄)

14 days! That’s not ideal is it

Wasywasydoodah · 10/05/2019 23:37

Oh, the wind and diarrhoea before and during is terrible. Pain and bloating so bad I feel pregnant again. :(

TheSheepofWallSt · 10/05/2019 23:37

Yep... only since I had DS 2.5 years ago.

The few days before I’m ... Sickly. Diarrhoea. Headaches. Weak. Sore thighs.

And the worst symptom is the light headedness. It starts 2 days before I start bleeding- absolutely guaranteed- and stops the day after, hits me in waves like vertigo.

Utterly shit being a woman sometimes...
